I booked a room here, and my employer even sent a cost-takeover form to secure the booking with a credit card number, and that I don´t have to pay on spot. Despite all German administrative correctness and efficiency they just cancelled my stay on the spot when I arrived. This place is not to be trusted even when you have a confirmed booking and a credit card provided? Just save yourself the frustration and don´t ever go there.
PLEASE trust me when I say DO NOT STAY here! My husband booked 3 nights a few days AFTER Octoberfest ended, yet we were charged almost $200 for a Wed. & Thurs. & about &100 plus for a Fri. night. Even $50 is TOO much! Only plus is it's close to train, & the female student working at the front desk was very kind. We had a balcony room, but the balcony was useless as it had no view, no chair, just mosquitoes. Nothing is EVER replaced in this dump, as the towels were paper thin & had shredded edges, the only thing between my head & the WORST, most lumpy, stained pillow was a TORN pillowcase! I had to take the comforter out of the duvet cover to use as a sheet because the room had no fan/air, & due to mosquitoes the window had to remain shut. I was shocked at the comforter as it also was totally covered in huge stains. We had a small wardrobe w/two hangers, two twin beds, a small table, & the world's smallest T.V. The one & only plus was we did have a small private ensuite bath. The housekeeping was also spotty, as the only "cleaning" in our room was emptying the trash can, & making one of the two beds one morning & neither the second morning! Believe it or not, $200/nt. did NOT include breakfast or even a cup of coffee! EVERYTHING is extra at this dump.
Left here absolutely both of us covered in mosquito bites, they were even in my shoes the next morning, disgusting, needs fumigating. Paid 93 euros for one night, overpriced. I had several bites on my face, eye, arms shoulders, my husband had 20 on his back alone. We had a private room.
I already had been host in two A&O Hostels at Berlin and Vienna and my experience had been wonderful... so I booked in Munich full of excitement. It all disappeared at the moment we opened the door of our room... really old, awfully small, no closets to put our clothes, broken matress, dirty and full of holes blankets... We of course complained to the receptionist who kindly moved us to other room... not much bigger, but at least it had wardrobe! The blankets were dirty too and the bed still were unconfortable, but at least we could stay there the three nights we had booked. The next BIG disappointment was at next morning when we were about to have breakfast... How you dare to call it "breakfast" if you even own a bread roaster to make a slide of toast?? It costs JUST 50€, you stingy!! The woman who was in charge of the breakfast was a foreigner who didn't even speak english and who got mad when I was about to leave my table because... I HAD TO CLEAN IT UP BY MYSELF!!! WHATTTTT??? I couldn't believe what was happening; I had to tidy up my plates and put them in a pile while she was chatting by phone in the kitchen... ABSOLUTELY UNBELIVEABLE!! To summarize, all the rooms are really old and ugly, and lack of details like glasses to drik water or hanger for the towels. Besides, they don't clean up your room in all your stay; they do just when you ckeck-in. Except for the first recepcionist, the staff was not kind to us, especially, the old woman in the breakfast. I don't recommed at all this hotel. You have a lot of better options to stay at Munich in the same street for 20€ more per night, which I assure you it worths the money.
I'm really not picky when it comes to hotel/hostel rooms.. as long as everything's more or less clean I'm good. We booked a single room with a double bed for 120€ in an other a&o first (hackerbrücke) but when we got there they told us it was overbooked and we had to be moved to the one near the Hauptbahnhof. There we waited for almost 1h until they told us we had a place to sleep. When we got our room in the a&o near Hauptbahnhof we were shocked. The bathroom was dirty, there were hairs, stains in the sink, small pieces of trash in the corners and the bedsheets were dirty. But what shocked me the most was the floor... I don't know who (and if somebody) cleans these rooms but they haven't been in there in literally weeks if not months. DON'T STAY THERE. IT'S GROSS AND IT'S NOT EVEN THAT CHEAP! The breakfast was ok though... BUT For that money you can sleep at a way better and clean room somewhere else!
Great price for the location 2 blocks from hauptbanhof very convenient, great food nearby and kid friendly, rooms are clean and the staff is friendly. Building bit old but well taken care of, beds are comfortable, good room for the price.
My friend and I stayed at A&O Munich HBF in late December in a private room for 3 nights. We had paid for a private twin room but when we arrived we were placed in a quad room for just the two of us so there was plenty of space, with a private ensuite and a massive balcony. The room was nice including two single beds and a bunk bed, and the ensuite even included a bath tub! The hostel does have a lift to get to the rooms after a short flight of stairs. We were not told about breakfast by staff so we were unsure whether it was free or when it was served. The wifi in this hostel did not properly reach our room so it was a terrible connection. The staff in this accommodation were very nice and definitely tried their best to try and help us with any enquiries. The hostel is located about 5 minutes walk away from the Munich Hauptbahnhof and about a 10 minute walk from Marienplatz, which is awesome. All in all it was a mixed experience with this accommodation and if it weren't for the wifi situation it would have received a better rating.
I checked in a school group of 21 students here. I was greeted at the desk by an employee with their face in a curry on the desk. My colleague and I were then given a room miles away from the students and one which was already occupied respectively. Both of us had to be moved. The next night, I found someone else's things in my room and all my belongings missing. I had been checked out, and my luggage (including 21 students' passports) had been left in the luggage room. The manager refused to see me for two days, and then was totally uninterested in any giving more than a perfunctory apology. If you're taking a school group, go elsewhere. You do not need the incompetence and the hassle. If you're an individual / family, spend a bit more and go somewhere else. I will never book with them again.
This sounds extreme, but I have stayed at an A&O hostel in Prague before, in a dorm, and had a much better experience than in Munich. First of all I was assigned a dorm instead of a private room (which is what I had paid for) and I ended up walking in on a bunch of guys sleeping, freaking them out. It was late, I was exhausted from travelling, had loads of suitcases. Not good enough. From the pictures online the hostel looks very clean and nice but the reality is somewhat different. There are cracked window panes, scruffy corridors and there were holes and marks on my sheets when I finally got into my private room. I paid 166€ for what I thought would be a hotel-style private room (as advertised) but the standard was very disappointing. If you're looking for a crazy hostel experience then go for it, but if you are looking for the more expensive option of a private room after a tiring day then forget it. Oh, also, the WIFI does not work!!! DO NOT GO HERE!!!
On our second night the room was full of mosquitos and I mean full! The staff couldn't provide any bug spray to assist and we had to go and buy our own so our room was able to be slept in. Despite doing this we had already been bitten all over! We stayed during Oktoberfest so alternate accomodation wasn't possible. On the third night we had another person staying at the hostel barge into our room at 1am as the staff didn't check us in properly and checked them into our room. The doors couldn't be locked from the inside and this was a horrible experience waking up to someone coming into your room in the middle of the night in a strange country. We sorted this our the next day at the front desk but it happened again the next morning! Absolutely ridiculous! We were so happy to put this experience behind us.
