very good place and very near to almost all shopping areas near crawford market . room conditions and toilets need improvement . the very best part is very near is some of the best non veg restaurants of mumbai

Visited on 23.5.18.Booked 2 rooms each of Rs.2800 (Double bed) and 1800 (single bed)Too small room with full of insects in bathroom like positions scorpion.Non cooperative staff.Utsadi restaurant is also too expensive.Charged Rs.75 for 1 lt. Bislari mineral water.Horrible hotel to stay.

10 years ago I booked at this location. It was my first time in India. It was my first time in India and did not know where I was going to stay when I got there. It was recommended by a taxi driver who asked, how much I wanted to spend? I wanted nothing exuberant but also not dingy. This is what I remember from my first encounter. I'm the type of traveler that does not need luxurious accommodations and would rather spend that extra money on other parts of my journey. With that being said, I was to go to India again for an early spring trip. I searched their Hotel through websites like, Trip Advisor, Bookings, and Agoda. I found Agoda to have the best prices. What really pulled me in was that the photos looked like they had gone through a massive upgrade in room quality. The rooms looked amazingly clean, comfortable spacious and quiet. The last as important as the first two reasons because after a day in Mumbai street, traffic, etc. you can appreciate some down time. When I get to the Hotel New Bengal it's late. The lobby looks the same as it did in 2008 and is manned by 1 security guard and 1 receptionist. After the passport/key/signature exchange. I am taken to my room 206. It was nothing like what was advertised. I had a room worse than the one 10 years ago. I thought, "How could this be?" I was heartbroken. The bed was almost stainless, the room was not on a balcony or with the nice view that you see on their website. I've seen better rooms in Swedish prisons. The bathroom looked unloved and the sweet music of a dozen kitchen attendants walking by, clanging pots, and echoed conversations was a tragic comedy of errors. For a moment I was waiting to be relieved by the producers of "Candid Camera" or "Punk'd". I rushed downstairs to complain immediately. That was the Deluxe Room I booked I am told. Wrong! I booked the Deluexe Executive Room. The difference is in size as well as look. I am traveling alone but I'd like the room that I paid for. I was asked to provide proof of the room that I booked because I had no phone service just having arrived in the country. They were "kind" enough to allow me to use the WiFi to show proof of the room that I PAID for. After having shown proof and keeping my voice down so other guests checking in would not hear my issue I was told that tomorrow I'd be in a different room before 9:00a.m. because my room was not available. I go to my loveless room for 1 night and try to log into the Hotel New Bengal network or the HOTEL NEW BENGAL network. That's right there was 2 and I was asked to log into the one with all capital letters. It did not work. I was then asked to create an account with their network and use my phone (the one that had no connection because I just got to India) to confirm my account creation. I complained about my issue and he was nice enough to allow me to use his phone for confirmation in the room that I did not pay for. After getting connected I reminisced on the memories of the 56K modems that subtracted years from our lives in the latter part of the 20th century. It was slower than Grandma's Molasses after refrigeration. They do put a limit on usage and change the password often and you may need to call the front desk to refresh your usage or just to reset the network. They need to figure this out I went down the next morning at 10.30a.m. the Day Manager said that the rooms are not cleaned until 11:00a.m. At 11:30 I went for a walk on the balcony and I met a worker that told me that my room was ready. Ironically the same room that I had 10 years ago/ It was upgraded and more comfortable than the previous room. There is nothing wrong with the room. Just know that from the hours of 9:00a.m. until about 9:00pm you will hear a lot of honking from the daily Mumbai traffic. If you sit on the balcony you might encounter guests that smoke on the balcony blowing cancer your way. The good parts: The good rooms average and the bathrooms were pretty decent. I like the butt hose and the hot water from the shower high shower head. The bathroom floor was also good and dries fast. The toilet water pressure is high and the tank refills quickly. There is no tub just a drain on the floor but I have no problem with this. The sink was on the newer side with the upside down porcelain look. The security guard has a nice smile. We don't understand each other but we get along fine with smiles and gestures. He can easily get you a taxi. The elevator driver is friendly and is willing to practice his English with you. :) The elevator is new and was not operational 10 years ago. Now they have 2. A freight elevator and a guest elevator. Apparently they have 9 floors with the upper floors being for "rich people" I was told by a staff member. There is a great restaurant attached to this place. Note: If you stay here make sure you get the room that you paid for, don't depend on the WIFI. Make sure you eat at the restaurant attached to the hotel. It's well run and the food is excellent. Don't go by the photos of the nice rooms. There was no rooms that I could see that had the nice water and green views displayed on any booking sites. Those must either be from a higher view not available to guests or from another hotel. If you get one of the other rooms not on the balcony your ability to rest will be challenged by the sounds from the kitchen staff.(about 30 members) Conclusion: If I go to India again in 10 years I might consider staying here. If I come back before then, I will stay someplace else.

The rooms on the pictures doesn't really conform with the reality. It is a cheap hotel and what you pay is what you get. But it is a fair hotel to stay in if your standards isn't too high. The staff is friendly and helpful. The food you can order to the room is absolutely amazing!

Worst hotel ever seen . The hotel was not even well maintained . The chairs were broken the varanda was fully spoiled Booked through goibo . The rooms were not like they have shown us in photos. Will never recommend this hotel to anyone

I have work in south Bombay from time to time and I usually shack up here. I just need a place to keep my luggage with a bed to sleep at night. It is not the best option available but it is relatively cheap, has a comfortable bed, there are great food options nearby, the staff tries well enough to help and it is near CST. It ticks all the markers. But that is the extent of it. Visit here only if you are going solo. Not the homeliest place for families or couples either.

We booked this hotel via hotel.com and paid £100 for 2 rooms for 2 nights. First impression was poor, in a busy area and the hotel sign looked a mess. Check in was a joke, they could not find our bookings and it took around 30 minutes to sort out. However the worst was yet to come, we were shown to our room through a series of smelly corridors until we reached our rooms. Good god, I have never been in anything so bad, a decrepid prison cell in a third world country would be better. We stayed one night and left, I usually spend a bit of time checking on hotels but did this one too quickly. Look at my pictures and make your mind up.

I had booked this hotel via goIbibo on 1st Dec 2017 for a check-in of 20th Jan 2018. I got a confirmation from Goibibo guys that the hotel has been confirmed . But surprisingly on calling the hotel on 20th Jan 2018 , they said we don't have any booking in your name. I repeatedly told them , that I have a confirmation from The booking guys, to which they replied " go and talk to GoIbibo" and banged the phone. Then onwards they didn't even bothered to pick my phone up .One of my friend also had the same experience for the same day booking which he had done via Agoda.com , the hotel guy refused to agree that booking was confirmed earlier . And all this happened when both of us had paid the whole booking amount in advance. So be aware of these guys before you make a booking, you can share the same fate as us.

It is not even a 1-star hotel. i booked a room from goibibo and when i reached there to check-in, the room was on the other side of the world as compared to what they show in internet. Room was dark and withwout any ventilation. the paint of the walls are falling, the walls hav cracks and the room was small that it cal cause a claustrophobic person to go in shock. the dining was also not good as it seems like they have just half constructed it and left in that way. The bellboys and attendant were not friendly and took us as their burden, and service was never good. I think its a total waste of money to stay in this hotel. For all who read this reveiw, if you are looking the rooms in the internet, your expectation will be going to crush by 90 %. i have saved that 10% just because rooms had bed and bathroom.

The room is pretty ok. I guess you get what you pay for (considering that mumbai is pretty expensive). The corridors could have been cleener though (some places it looked like a construction site). Other than that, staff is very nice and frindly.
