I had never heard of this hotel, but decided to give it a try. It was appropriated priced for a bread and breakfast hotel. We started 2 nights and 3 days. Customer service was fine upon arrival, the grounds were clean, atmosphere seemed calm, peaceful and comforting. The room was really nice, clean and spacious with a balcony - equipped with a/c, cable tv, mini fridge and coffee maker. Beach is not on property We did experience a few hiccups which we considered major - the light continuously went for the whole stay nor more than a minute at a time, front desk/customer service was not exceptional throughout the whole stay - we ordered dinner to the room and I had to go to the desk to make payment via credit card as they did not have a portable machine nor would they put the charge to the room or allow for payment at the end of the stay. Parking also an issue at times. Wi-fi is also available but doesn't always work Overall it was mediocre even for the price. I would not recommend to anyone who was is looking for exceptional customer service and that little extra personalized service - however if you are just looking for a nice quiet place to relax that includes breakfast this is perfect for you
Worst experience ever I stayed at this hotel during spring break for a total of four nights, the food was okay for the most part.My issue though was with the customer service of both the managers as well as the rest of staff. The hotel advertises top notch amenities including high speed wifi but I'm yet to receive/see all that. From the time of my arrival I was having issues with the wifi and also a foul smell within the area where my room was, I made numerous complaints but nothing was done. For $135 a night you can definitely get a way better hotel with 5* service and amenities save your money and go somewhere else!!!
I just needed a place to sleep that was not too expensive during the Spring Break season. Cardiff Hotel fit the bill. The hotel is perched on a hill south off the main highway in the heart of Runaway bay and easily accessible. While there are nice views of the Caribbean sea, this is not a beachfront property. My expectations were low but I was pleasantly surprised. The room I stayed in (Block 2) had an unobstructed view of the Caribbean sea. I had a room with two full beds. It was small compared to other hotels along this strip of Runaway Bay. They have a spa which was decent. The ambiance is not great but the staff was very pleasant and accommodating and the price was unbeatable. I paid less than $100 for a 2 hour treatment including steam shower, coffee scrub, and massage. This was exactly what I needed after an exhausting weekend. The room rate included complimentary breakfast which was decent. Also, the attendants at breakfast were very nice. This place would be really nice if the front desk was more professional. They always seemed to be busy with everything else but the customer in front of them. When I made sure I booked a sea view room. When I check in, I was given a room at the end of the building with rooms numbered 1. I didn't feel comfortable staying in such a dark corner and the room did not have the sea view for which I paid. I went back to the front desk and requested another room. I was told, that was the room that I was assigned. I kindly ask the front desk attendant for a reassignment which was granted. There were other times that I had to interact with the front desk but each time they were not very customer friendly. I would stay there again and it is good value for the money.
Food best in the evening. Beach some way from the hotel but parking available there or you can take hotel shuttle. You need to pay for hiring loungers at the beach. Breakfast included in our room rate. Some staff did not give us all items included. I didn't like condensed milk, I prefer pasteurised but not many places in Jamaica supply it. Ice cream on sale nearby by car at a branch of Devon I-Scream. Portions are huge be warned.
This was a comfortable and enjoyable stay, marred by small inadequacies. The property is attractive, the gardens cared for, the staff attentive. The food was good, though the menu somewhat predictable after a week. Every member of staff was courteous and keen to help, but (a) the organization of the kitchen needs improving so that the serving of courses was faster (at breakfast, one sometimes waited 20 minutes for the next course), and some of the younger staff need more training is how to take an order accurately - though perhaps this was also the kitchen's fault. My base bedsheet also stopped a foot short of the end of the bed. A little attention to these would greatly improve the experience. The generator near my room did not help sleep.
I spent my birthday there and it was just great the rooms were really nice. Just a bundle of peace i enjoyed my stay there would surely go back. Shout out to rusheeda, alrick and kimani for helping my family and i to enjoy our stay. its not like the hyped up hotels but its just right lol
We stayed at The Cardiff Hotel and Spa for 7 nights . Firstly the most striking thing about the hotel is that it is set in aesthetically beautiful surroundings with well kept grounds. The sea view from our balcony bejewelled by the cove of palm trees and tropical flowers was the perfect backdrop for the paradise . The rooms are clean and everything for your comfort is provided as standard . Cardiff Hotel & Spa food standard is outstanding with a number of bespoke breakfast options prepared to an exquisite standard . But the single most appealing feature of this hotel is the people ! The staff are friendly , attentive , welcoming and helpful . If it is all true that "it's the people that make the place " then owing to Cardiff hotel and spa's bar and waiting staff this place is one of Jamaica's hidden treasures . If we could present barman of the year award to anyone it would have to be by far Kimarni Dallas ! Have him fix you his speciality hummingbird cocktail it is to die for ~ an extremely skilled and attentive bar man . We would absolutely stay again a home away from home !
I have stayed at Cardiff several times over the past 10 years and it was the best all around. However, I recently stayed at Cardiff and have seen such a dramatic decrease in quality-from guest services, the food, etc. What has happened in the past 2 years? For example now the hotel only refills the bottled water in the room every 2 days-even when there are 2 people in the room! They have the same packaged dinner menu every night-with hidden costs. I was really disappointed. Poor front desk response-I called the operator 3 times over 2 hours and no response and none from the front desk. I made a reservation for a junior suite-it was confirmed - and when I arrived, I had to get a different room. Staff are really limited. Quality of the food is poor-bland an dull. Rooms are mosquito filled too-which are a dangerous health risk. The most disappointing part about my stay is that I have spoken to a manager and others about our experience and their has been no response. And this is supposed to be the Hotel Training Institution for the rest of Jamaica? What bad habits are being mimicked from this hotel to others elsewhere? It saddens me deeply because I used to recommend this hotel widely to everyone-as the best local hotel in Jamaica. But alas, it has fallen --and what a fall!
I visited Cardiff Hotel in December 2016. It was my first time staying here and it will be my last. First...the A/C in my first room was blowing hot water over the bed. I honestly thought it was going to boil over and explode. The safe that was in the room was non functional. It looked like it was sitting unused for 30yrs. It had no means of securing your personables. When they could not repair the AC, I was switched to another room In the second room the shower had just enough water to brush my teeth. I had to use the faucet from the Tub just to get some moisture on my body. HOT water took about 15min to start. Mosquitos and Flies constantly entered the room; paint peeling from the walls. No ceiling fan so even if I did get the room cool from the AC, housekeeping would turn it off. The steep walking distance was challenging...if you have a handicap of any sorts...you may not want to stay here because the walking distance between the parking and the buildings would send you into cardiac arrest. The only good that I can honestly say about my stay was the Breakfast and the friendly staff. I really hope that someone cares enough to make some changes so this can become a better option for guests.
I revisited the Cardiff having spent 3 nights here last year with my son. I encouraged 9 others to join me this year and something has gone awry. My friends checked in before me on the 9th Nov and unfortunately they were without hot water for 2 whole days. It wasn't until my room mate checked in on the 11th and escalated the issue, everyone was moved to a wing that had hot water....this was great...but the down side...was...there was no cold water. Even the toilet oonly ran hot water. You can imagine this meant that washing your hair was impossible. The restaurant staff were great...The domestic staff were great but reception left a lot to be desired. This was not what I experienced a year ago and my friends were not impressed especially as we usually opt for the Riu or Grand Bahia. I was the one that encouraged them to use a small more bespoke hotel. There were three of us booked into a room and we noticed very quickly that the beds were small.....we asked reception if anything could be done and they very quickly said no! When we enquiried with Pascal he advised that there were no suitable foldaway beds but he would see what he could do. By the time it was bed time...alnother double bed was placed in our room...it was close and tight, but we got what we wanted and the bed was comfy. Room service staff were brilliant although on one particular occasion we were advised that there was $100 short although we had left more than enough on the tray...we were a little aghast that we were chased for this. The coconut lime cheesecake is to die for. Breakfasts were lovely and whilst often took way too long to come the service was excellent and they even boiled lemon grass tea for us especially. This could be a fabulous hotel, some much needed investment, a few touches here and there like the mosquito candle for your room goes a long way. The front reception staff must recognise that they are the face of the hotel and so should want to go the extra mile in every way they can...that's what working in hospitality is all about. Shrugging shoulders and not seeking the best solution only leaves a bad taste. I have two trips to Jamaica next year and unfortunately whilst one group were sold on my recommendation of last year,,..the feedback that they've had this year has meant that they will not stay here which is a shame as I did like it here. Pascal is a credit, he showed true empowerment and had the customer experience at the forefront of his mind..he did everything he could do to ensure that we were happy...the rest of the team could learn a lot from him.
