Sandals Royal Plantation All Inclusive5.0 out of 5.0

We had a fabulous time at the Royal Plantation and would consider visiting again. However, if we could rate by points of a star it would probably be 4.8 instead of 5. The main reason would be the rooms - they need updating. Don't get us wrong they were very clean & completely usable; it was just that they are not state of the art and show their age, especially the bathroom. The toilet, with its cheap plastic seat, is an old design & doesn't flush efficiently (ours blocked twice!). The bath/shower controls & shower head are original from the day the place was built and are not modern in their functionality, i.e. it is affixed wall mounted shower head, and difficult to adjust to the right temperature. Most top class hotels have separate shower enclosures these days. The safe malfunctioned twice locking our valuables in – however this was dealt with very quickly and was no real concern. Other issues were – velour covered arm chairs, not comfy or hygienic – stained quilt, which we requested be changed – aircon unit that just about coped (set at lowest temp & highest fan constantly – noisy at night) – and some other minor bits. The best bits ... Staff, very friendly & courteous! Food – absolutely wonderful! General areas/facilities – Very well cared for and beautiful. Atmosphere – relaxing! Regarding the Butler Service. Very courteous but perhaps because we are British we found if over the top some times and didn’t really need to use them. We are happy and used to arranging things ourselves. Thank you to all for a lovely relaxing holiday.
So before I went, I read the reviews including the bad ones. I had balanced yet hopeful expectations, and it exceeded my wildest dreams for our honeymoon. The moment you walk in, they greet you with a wet hand towel and sparkling wine. We had a massage appointment, but my blood sugar was tanking. Our butler Olivia and the spa staff all rushed around to get us some food. Our room had a stunning view of the ocean. The bed was comfortable, and all of the furniture was nice. It was the most no worries vacation ever. Our butlers Hector and Olivia knew our schedule and ushered us around. We'd come back to our room to find all kinds of lovely honeymoon surprises. When we came back from Dunn River, the room smelled nice. I looked in the bathroom, and the jacuzzi tub was full of bubbles and hibiscus flowers. Candles were lit and lovely new age music was playing. The meals were great. I mentioned wanting to eat somewhere that had scallops, so then Hector arranged it so that there were scallops on the menu at each restaurant every evenings. I consider myself a foodie having lived in New Orleans, Houston, Austin, and San Francisco. If someone were to say "Outback," "Chilis," or "Cracker Barrel," I'd think that they wanted to punish me. Now, that doesn't mean that there aren't certain taco trucks that I love. So when I say that each of the meals at the restaurant were good--that's coming from a selective eater. I wouldn't say that they beat the best NOLA or SF restaurants, but they were good. If you want a French Laundry meal every night, then you might be too much of a snob for this place. Keep in mind that I'm also an adventurous eater--so if you are afraid of exotic foods, I don't know whether you'd like it. The staff were wonderful people. They all learned our names and were so sweet. Now, I believe that how you treat other people does matter. We got to know the staff and were nice to them too. So if someone is persistently rude and demanding, I'm not sure how they would respond. Just be nice, and they'll give it back tenfold. Cleon, the beach butler is always smiling. The guys in the sports shop, the diving guys over at Ochi, the restaurant staff, the spa staff---everyone was just fabulous. As for the beach, Cleon is there asking you if you want a mimosa or if you want to be sprayed with rose water. They thought of everything regarding hammocks, futons, etc. I wish I could have been allowed to be a little more adventurous with my swimming. But I understand their wanting to limit their liability. I'm used to swimming more than a mile in open water and have swam against 4.5 knots of current. So the average swimmer will probably not find it too tame. It was the honeymoon of my dreams. We did go over to Ochi for the diving lessons. The dive instructor was great. I was glad that we weren't staying at Ochi though. It seemed like more of a party environment with organized fun on the loud speaker. It's the reason I've always avoided all-inclusives. But neither of them had screaming kids running around because they are both adults only. Now, the I do have two objections to Royal Plantation. First, the name glamorizes a slave masters' lifestyle. I am not black, but I don't have to be black to be offended by that. It made me particularly uncomfortable when we had a mostly black staff waiting on us hand and foot. Second, from talking to the staff and asking questions, I learned that a lot of them worked six days a week. We saw one really nice lady late at night at dinner and then back up serving again at breakfast. She was sweet about it when I said something, but I know she was tired. I would rather pay just a little more so that the staff can have a good wage and a healthful rest with time with their families. It's just hard to enjoy the lap of luxury when you know that someone else is going through hardship to bring that to you.
I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this resort. It truly is like our home in Jamaica. If you want to feel relaxed, pampered and spoiled book a holiday here. This really is one very special place to be - this was our 7th stay here, yes, many of the staff have changed but lots of old friends still remain - Biggs, Coombs, Cleon, Daniello, Sean, Gladstone, Natalia, Jermaine, Junior to name but a few. New friends include Dacia, Karena, Adrian and Ashpole. Arnold, the GM and Frank, the hotel manager, go out of their way to make you feel valued and special - Arnold, our Returner's dinner was one of the best we have attended in 29 Sandals stays, thank you for hosting our table, and just WOW to our Diamond lunch with you and Dacia - thank you very much. We look forward to returning to Royal Plantation next year.
We'd only once before stayed at an apparently top class all-inclusive, which was in Cuba..and it was truly dreadful. So when we decided that rather than touring, we wanted to do a beach holiday, and friends suggested we stay at a Sandals resort, we were sceptical. However, this place is absolutely top class: the location, the resort, the staff, the food, everything was perfect. Royal Plantation is only suites, and butler service; some 70 suites means that it is more like a boutique hotel, than one of Sandals larger resorts. However, if at any time you want more activities, or restaurant options it's simple..you can hop on the shuttle bus to the Sandals Ochi resort next door; but their residents can't visit Royal Plantation! Special memories of our two wonderful butlers, Ashpole and Adrian - the "A team"; two great entertainment hosts, Jason and Akeem; beach butlers, Daniello and Cleon; and Natalie, Karena, and Christina (the perfect chef).
Great location, great food and amazing service. But the rooms need to be renovated. Furniture is old and you cant even open some of the drawers. On shower only has hot water and no venting fan. Resort, food and service great. If rooms get updated it will be an amazing resort.
This was our third year spending our vacation here. Absolutely stunning and the most welcoming and friendly people ever! Highly recommend this resort 100% Our butlers Gladstone and Sean were top notch.
This Sandals property is the best place to relax. Service is impeccable. If you want to party it up, you have access to Sandals Ochi Beach Resort with their pool bars and restaurants. We will definitely be back for additional vacations at the Royal Plantation.
We went for our Honeymoon from August 22-31 2017 on the recommendation from our Travel Agent, Jennifer. It was the best decision & Honeymoon EVER. First, we highly recommend those guests flying into Jamaica to take full Advantage of a VIP service call Club Mobay at the airport for both Arrival and Departure flights. Upon Arriving at the Airport we were greeted by an Ambassador who had our names & escorted us through the Passport area, Baggage Claim and then Red Carpeted " Fast Tracked" right through Customs. It was money well spent and started our Honeymoon out right. No waiting and it made arriving into unknown area that much more pleasant. We were then escorted to Sandals Lounge to wait for our transport. The Lounge was stocked with Drinks, cookies, comfy furniture and free wifi. The drive to Royal Plantation was about an 1.5 hours, he was a contract employee of the Resort and was very pleasant and pointed out places of interest in Jamaica. He was very proud of his native home and that was awesome. He offered to stop at a Rest Stop but we decline as we were too excited to get to the Resort. Upon our arrival our Butler, Adrian met us with cool towels and to assist us to our room. He explained how he and his partner Ash provided services and gave us a Butler phone to contact them for any requests. He confirmed our dinner reservations for that night and knew we were tired from traveling so offered to do Resort Orientation the following day with his partner Ash. My Husband and I enjoyed exploring the Resort on our own that evening and were very excited to see the game room with pool table, and multiple board games including Backgammon, which we played daily. Our room was a perfect size on the East side on the second floor. We did not have a balcony however did not need it as we could open the sliding doors and feel the breeze and sit in the chair & enjoy the view. We appreciated the old world charm and accommodations. (There were reviews about the rooms being out dated and needing an update.) The staff were excellent and made us feel that every need was tended too. We had The A team Butlers Adrian & Ash who were amazing & the Restaurant meals were phenomenal as well as the service. We were able to eat healthy lots of seafood, rice and vegetables. We did not have a bad meal. At first, with only three restaurants on the property I was concerned about not having options but The Terrace changed its menu nightly and The Royal Grill did have the same menu but the Surf & Turf my husband's favorite he didn't mind. And I ordered something new every time to try different dishes. The French Restaurant was very good & fancy, our server Romeo was excellent however we preferred The Terrace and The Royal Grill. We did venture over to Sandals Ochi had dinner at Soy which was good but realized everything we wanted, Great service, the beach, activities Tennis, Bocci Ball and most of all peace & relaxing atmosphere was at the Royal Plantation and we did leave that Resort for 9 days. Every staff we came across from Arnold the Resort manager to Junior, Lifeguard asked if we're enjoying ourselves and if there was anything they could to to make our stay better. Karina at The Wobbley Peacock was always there with a smile and Dwayne & Junior at the Bar were ready to entertain and serve a refreshing drink. Clayton at The Terrace and Cleon & Danielle the Beach Butlers were awesome. The other guests were all friendly and over half of them were returning guests. The scenery was beautiful the waters were different shade of blue and crystal clear. We could go on & on how amazing this resort was but we encourage you to book your room and see for yourself as you will not be disappointed. We will be back. Thank you for taking care of us!!
There are not enough words to describe how amazing this place is! Sandals Royal Plantation was our first Sandals experience and our first time in Jamaica. We could not have picked a better place to spend our 10 year anniversary. It was quiet but there were activities and things going on if you wanted to participate. Our butlers, Orlando and Olivia made our trip even better. They just made sure we didn't want or need for anything and even had a few surprises for us while we were there! The views were beautiful, the grounds were so well taken care of, the food was by far the best we've had at any other all-inclusive and the room was exactly what we were hoping for. The only 2 negatives...that aren't even big enough to lower my rating are that the hot water was not great especially at prime time before getting ready for dinner. Again, not a huge deal but something that could be made better. Also, the windows in the bathroom have shutters but they are open to the hallway so while you are in the bathroom, you can hear any and everything going on in the hall. Both of those things are so minor that they didn't change our overall opinion of the Royal Plantation. We can't wait to come back...My husband and I can't imagine staying anywhere else from now on!
The best vacation we ever had. We booked the Villa and it was simply amazing the service from our butler Dalgardo was very special and our housekeeper Neldica did everything perfect for us. The grounds were beauitful the ocean was perfect. We had our chef Roger cook for my birthday dinner and it was wonderful the food was impeccible. The whole expericence from the check-in to stay and to the end of our tip was done with class.
