The area is all pedestrian; so it’s confusing to locate. The noise level was fine. There are lots of bars and restaurants of wide variety nearby. The owner spoke little English; so we were unable to get his advice except to a far away restaurant, that was unacceptable. He did call us a taxi when we left 3 days later.
This B&B is a nice option for when staying in Modena. The host Alessio was a wonderful help before, during and after our stay. He gave great recommendations for touring the city and this helped up enjoy our short time here. Our apartment was spacious and well appointed, A/C worked perfected. The only comment to make is that the room could do with some TLC - no major faults, just small things. Great Value for money and we would return in the future!
The Il Fonticolo is in the old town of Modena, just minutes away from the Palazzo Ducale and the Cathedral. Their suites are originally and thematically designed and the Jacovitti suite has very cool views of the Pomposa square. Your basic Italian breakfast is delivered straight into your room at the requested time. With an easy going host this is a great option in Modena.
This accommodation is very special. It is a nice old apartment with enough space for two people and very close to the market place, restaurants, bars etc. The host and the service people were very nice and helpful. We enjoyed our stay very much.
Not your average bland bed and breakfast! Great location but a little hard to find the first time. If driving you’ll need to park first and then walk to the B&B as its in a pedestrian only zone. Once found its great. Uniquely decorated room - retro kitsch with local cartoon artist twist. Good sized room with small kitchen and bathroom and a tiny outdoor space. Clean and tidy. Breakfast is brought to you in the morning consisting of pastries and juice.
We spent 3 days at the apartment. Is spacious, clean and quiet. The location is excellent. The bed is excellent Alecio is very kind and always delivered the breakfast tray punctually - juice, yogurt, cake, bread, brioche, milk, jam, Nutella. I recommend it!
Modena is a wonderful town, it is compact and comfortable and yet has many interesting shops, museums (be sure to visit the Estee library) and restaurants -- you eat very well in Modena ! ; and Il Fonticolo is an ideal home base to explore it all from, within easy walking distance of the town centre. The owners are extremely friendly and informative. The space is big, clean, fully appointed, quiet (on a plaza surrounding a church). Parking is nearby, you get a sign to display so you can park for free. I was so happy and look forward to many return visits !
His is by far our favorite stay in Italy! The apartment is clean, and looked like a museum! Such wonderful furnishing, got everything you need! Local ion is great, in the center of this wonderful city, and close to Osteria Francescana, if that's where you are heading (which we recommend)! Breakfast is served in your room, and it is fresh and tasty, great pastries and savory stuff. This was a highlight for sure! What was not so good, is a minor detail that should be added in the information about the b&b. Check-in time is very strict, since they only have a few rooms they are rarely in the office. Hence, when we arrived at 12 no one was there to open the door, we called them but their English wasn't that good, and our Italian is nonexistent, so we walked around with our luggage in 30 degrees heat. We are used to be able to leave luggage when the room is not ready, but that'd ones not work here. So take the check in time literally and you will be fine! Staff is very helpful, after we tried to reach them, an English speaking person called us and let us in. So it all worked out fine. This would never make me not stay here again, we truly loved it's! But we think people should know this, so it does not happen to any one else.
This place was a great find. Slightly on the more expensive scale but it was worth every penny. The decor was very modern and the room was spotless. There is quite a noisy bar downstairs but the windows are completely soundproof when closed. May be a problem on hot summer nights. Breakfast brought to my room at a time of my choosing.
This was a second floor B&B that just didn't work for us. We loved Modena, first of all: friendly people and a great "working city" feel to it. LOVED it! The room was more than adequate ... decorated in a very particular style, small but do-able bathroom. The breakfast was typical pastries, yogurt, juice. I guess the location was a little out of the way...we had trouble finding it the first night we walked back because the nondescript daytime street had turned into an outdoor cafe-bar. That night noise made it quite difficult to sleep with windows open (required). Host wasn't real fluid in English and (I guess for that reason) not real helpful in assisting us with our plans. There was a frustrating issue with the door unlocking the first night (our fault), so make sure you know how to get back in when you leave. Last impression: we requested the host call a taxi for us on departure morning, and he said it would be done in the morning but he nor his friend showed up and neither did the taxi.
