My fiancée and I were travelling to Texas and thought it would be a nice experience to stay at a little B&B off the beaten path of the big cities we were going through. The place was nice and had a homely feel to it. We arrived late and pretty much went straight to bed. That’s when everything changed. I woke up to go use the bathroom and as I was conducting my business, I heard a little child laugh. Figuring it was someone outside I looked out the window. Nothing. I checked out the front door. Nothing. My fiancée was fast asleep. Come to find out... this place is F**king haunted!!

I had intended to pitch my tent but summer monsoon threatened, so I stopped at the Grist Mill for a beer and ended up staying the night in a comfy and funky room. Staff was very nice, prices were good, and the young proprietors deserve your support.

We spent one night at this hotel and we were pleasantly surprised. When we first arrived we were greeted at the front desk. Our room was large and very cosy. Lovely bathroom. We had dinner and breakfast at the hotel and both were good. The staff were very sweet. It's an old house so floors were a little squeaky (early wake up because of the room upstairs) but otherwise comfortable. Would definitely recommend

Nice place as a change from chain hotels. Stayed in Family Suite. Worked great. Older building but very clean. Attached tavern is unique and was fun. Bartender was great. Easiest check in and check out of all time.

Lots of stairs are required for guests to gain access to rooms. So I was caution elderly guests. But encourage young families. The old mill is cleverly appointed with antiques, and the ame breakfast is fresh and delicious. Just be warned, stairs, stairs, and more stairs.

Four steps down off the main lobby to the left is the Walton Room ($135 incl tax and two breakfasts). Small bathroom with sink and toilet. The tub/shower is separate, in what appears to have been a closet, but works fine. (Why not remove the static farm display from the lobby and extend the bathroom and then have a closet?) Bed seemed well worn but was comfortable. Tape covering gap between air conditioner and window was thin and had a least one hole; kinda tacky. The two heaters were beneath shelves holding the entertainment equipment which got quite warm. Overall wiring setup in room seemed a bit sketchy. Owner/proprietor Crystal was as nice and accommodating as she could be but seemed a bit overworked. Note, while advertised as near Moab, Grist Mill is actually Monticello, 55 miles south of Moab city.

We enjoyed our 1 night stay. The food and breakfast was excellent. Loved the design in the bar as it was very unique. The decor is authentic and creative. If you want new and modern this is not for you, but if you are looking for something different it is perfect! The staff was great-very friendly and we enjoyed talking with the owner. This offers a great alternative to hotels in the area.

My favorite things about The Grist Mill Inn - quiet, king-sized bed, internet, and included breakfast. Worried about fire safety, no fridge or microwave in room, room could really use professional decorator, eggs, bacon & juice good, but waffles and omelet were terrible. Bad recipe on waffle and overcooked omelet. Pricey and while the grist mill antiques were interesting, the furnishings were mostly worn out looking. If they hired an excellent decorator, replaced the couches and flooring, and found a better cook, this could be memorable.

We decided to forgo Moab this year (too crowded and expensive!) and try a stay in Monticello (only a two-hour drive from our home) and hike in nearby Canyonlands instead. My husband found this charming B&B, and we booked just for an overnight - and were glad we did! The hosts (a young couple with a young family) were friendly, but not intrusive, which we liked, and after a four-hour hike the first afternoon, we were too tired to take advantage of their dinner menu, but were treated with delicious, enticing aromas from their dining room all the same! We stayed in a spacious room on the third floor and enjoyed a comfortable night and had a home-cooked meal the next morning prepared and served by Crystal (who managed a full dining room with a baby on the way!). We were impressed by the antique feel of the three-story inn (with its idiosyncratic quirks) but modern touches. They know what they’re doing, and we’ll try it again.

When Expedia cancelled our reservation 3 days after making it online, I called the Grist Mill Inn direct. The owner booked me in the last available room. On arrival the room was beautiful but on the 3rd floor up many stairs. Also the bathroom had a clawfoot tub/shower with no bars to hang onto. Being Seniors I felt this accommodation might be risky, so asked for another room. They were very understanding and made a switch for us. They were in process of renovations but the rooms were lovely, breakfast and dinner were like home cooking. Enjoyed our 2 nites there very much. It was fun to met other travelers in the dining room.
