2 hotel employee pounded on my door until I woke and answered the door. Upon opening the door they appologsed and I shut the door without an explanation to the insane behavior. I contacted the manager and explain what had happened, she acted shocked and said she had no idea why any employee, let alone two would be pounding on my door. The manager promised to get to the bottom of it and call me, I never heard from her or anyone else. I still have no idea why they were beating on my door.

I was disappointed with my stay at The Square Hotel. I expected a charming location near the Duomo but instead got a business-style hotel in an industrial area. The staff was unfriendly, and at check-in we witnessed them arguing with another guest about a barking dog—an uncomfortable scene for anyone to see. The hotel advertises a shuttle but doesn’t mention it costs about €100, and when I asked for other airport options, I was told to “figure it out.” Staff also couldn’t identify which tram stops directly in front of the hotel. Although the hotel is fairly new, the room showed noticeable wear, and the toilet did not appear properly cleaned. The rooftop bar requires guests to buy a €24 drink—even if it is a soft drink—just to sit, which feels unreasonable. Overall, the hotel charges luxury prices but does not offer luxury service. I wouldn’t recommend it for anyone seeking a charming stay.

The room we were offered was on the 10th floor and although it was a lovely big room it only had a bath and no shower. We asked to change rooms for a shower which they did, but it was a smaller room. I was under the impression that the rooms were soundproofed, which was not the case, we could hear everything especially the noise from the bar area which was on the same floor, the lifts and the staff storage cupboards and the tram when its started early in the morning! We asked to change rooms the next morning and the staff were accommodating, we moved to the 8th floor and although the room was less noisy, it still wasn't soundproofed and we could hear the trams again early the next morning! The rooms particularly the bathroom needs to be thought out a bit better as there was nowhere to put anything and no shelves, we found what they had was very limited!
