Checked in to a junior suite for a three day trip - from the get go the service over the phone before I checked in and on arrival was above excellent. Dylan and Grace stood out as incredible in both cases, but all the staff I dealt with over the course of my stay were ready to go the extra mile to ensure my stay was magic. I’ll start with the pluses: 1. The suite. I booked a junior suite but was fortunate enough to make enquiries with the hotel before I arrived to secure one of the few Japanese Garden suites (there are about 4 in total). These are true magic. They are oversized (comparable in size to a small 2 bedroom apartment) with a private courtyard (three storeys above the noise of toorak road and chapel street), and decked out with lush bamboo, Japanese plants and an adorable garden pond - this was perfect both for a glass of wine before heading out and before my morning coffee to recover in serenity the next day. I’m almost worried on my next trip to Melbourne I won’t want to stay anywhere else. The suite includes a separate study that’s perfect for working (thankfully, though, this wasn’t a work trip). 2. The service. Again this was faultless. I would have no hesitations in staying here again given the smiles, lack of attitude, and real care to ensure I loved my suite and my stay: when you add this up with the room set up and the decor, you would be hard pressed to find this combination anywhere. 3. Value. I love five star hotels more than most people, but I don’t like paying through the nose for the experience (who does?). The mini bar and room service pieces are reasonable, even though the choices on offer don’t always marry up to the 5 star label (more on this in a bit, it’s also a point for improvement). 4. Location. Wow. I was in town for the Bastille Day food celebrations and catch up with friends and the degree of food choices in the locale is great for Melbourne. Had I booked a bigger baggage allowance and had more time too, I would have taken advantage of the retail too (great menswear - esp designer formal/workwear within a 3 minute walk). The not so good - and the things the hotel could hit home a real home run on with minimal work: 1. Please improve the coffee situation. It is a shame that in a city so famous for great coffee that the hotel doesn’t do a great brew (I could barely drink the coffee that came with my breakfast - in fact i didn’t, and the room does not include a nespresso or coffee machine). A kettle is great for making tea, and you get great stock of T2 varieties, but Nescafé sachets in a five star hotel is not expected in 2019. Please make the small investment in coffee machines - I promise it will pay dividends and will avoid the need to run out in ones bathrobe at 8am to cross the road (no one wants to see this). 2. Stock a wider variety in the minibar. The minibar is sparse for a five star hotel, and contains products mostly from the Coca Cola family (not a fan). Think other drinks, kombucha, water kefir, etc. 3. The smell in the lobby. I’m not very sensitive to smell but my visitors also noticed the wild patchouli smell in the stairwell near reception. Please have a look at the variety you use; I’m sure someone loves it if it’s being used, but maybe it’s a bit too strong. Address the three points above and I may very well move in permanently to Suite 301. Thanks for a lovely stay and incredible service. A great introduction to the Como.
This was a great way to spend a couple of days in Melbourne. The welcome we received by the staff was exceptional. The hotel was well presented and had a lovely old world charm about it. Our room was fantastic, spacious and with the added surprise of a bottle of sparkling and chocolates, as well as a welcome message. The bar, although not busy was also great. Our barman organised great drinks, a romantic meal and excellent service. The food was really good, especially the lamb pie. The hotel was really quiet, never hearing noise from other guests. We would definitely stay here again. Special mention to the staff again- they are a real credit to your hotel. Our battery was flat on our departure, but they managed to get us going and it was never a problem. Thanks for a great stay. PS I loved the little blue duck!
My sister and I stayed here for her birthday, I rang prior to our arrival to ask if we could have a complimentary bottle of champagne.. On arrival we were given delicious mulled wine and an upgrade to the King suite, we then made it to our room to find beautiful balloons, a bottle of chilled champagne, a colourful birthday greeting on the living room mirror and a birthday card! She felt like a queen!! Thank you Como for making our stay so special and for our delicious breakfast the next morning😊
This Hotel is another class. The service from when we stepped inside the door until we left was above and beyond. The smiles and assistance we recieved was amazing. A huge and sincere thanks to Hugo, Perline and Lalit for their assistance in dealing with our requests with a smile and with sincere desire to help us. You made our stay very memorable, Thank you. We told them we were staying for my birthday and they prepared a bottle of champagne waiting in my room for us. Their rooms are excellent not lacking in anything and spacious and modern. We will definitely be back.
Greeted with a welcome drink and smiling faces of the reception team where nothing it too much trouble. A gem of luxury in South Yarra with restaurants and shopping galore on Chapel Street .. but we were loving our upgraded junior suite so much we ordered rooms service which was first class .. just like the room and the team. Stand out hotel - highly recommend - I will be staying here every MELB trip from now on. Thank you Como Team - exceptional. 🙏
From a complimentary room upgrade, to the check in, valet, sparkling & macaroons on arrival, to the gorgeous body products. We were pleasantly surprised by the Como Melbourne. We are definitely going back.
We were recommended to The Como Hotel by a friend and it certainly lived up to expectations. Friendly receptionists greeted us on our arrival and we were pleasantly surprised by the size of our double room. It was very comfortable, spacious and had everything needed for a three day stay. The bathroom was excellent, large and well lit too. The hotel is in the heart of South Yarra with restaurants and bars everywhere and with easy access to the train line into town and on the trams too. Breakfast in the hotel was excellent. The bar on the ground floor is nice but lacking in atmosphere as there are so many good wine bars in the area so was underused. The staff couldn't have done more for us and made our stay very good indeed.
This is an amazing hotel. The hotel's biggest asset is their staff. The customer service was 10 out of 10. The location is perfect, close to shops, restaurants and 2 minute walk to train station. Rooms were roomy and breakfast had a wide variety. The main negative was the floral smell in reception! Better to have no smell than this cheap floral smell. First impression was not great due to this. The tv's and movies in the rooms were not working for half a day on Monday 3 June. I think guests should be advised if this is going to happen particularly if they may be planning a rest day watching movies in their room as we were. Other than that I would stay again!
First time we have stayed, but we will be back. Super comfy bed, lovely clean room, super spacious. Great location, lots of wonderful restaurants around. Huge bathroom. Very friendly staff, and great espresso martini in the Bar at the hotel.
I’m an Accor Silver member and have stayed at an MGallery before, which I loved. I tried to book the Sofitel but it was price prohibitive. This was an entirely underwhelming experience. Not up to the standard you’d expect. Furnishing and amenities were tired. Breakfast is not a restaurant more like a lunchroom or cafeteria. I would not return.
