Newly renovated hotel in Melbourne CBD. This is definitely not your average holiday Inn. The rooms have floor-to-ceiling window with gorgeous view of the city. The staff are all very friendly and respond to your requests quickly. Sirocco, the restaurant in the hotel serves great contemporary Australian cuisine and fabulous coffee and desserts. Will definitely recommend staying here when you visit Melbourne! It’s also a short distance to 2 outlet malls 🤣😆💗
The last review I did on this hotel ( a couple of years back) there was a lot of room for improvement. I was told the H.I. had some renovations. The rooms ( upgrades) a spacious, clean neat and tidy. Rooms nearby the lifts have had special attention and they are rather quiet. Tea and coffee , also pod coffee, in the room. So yes, a vast improvement. The breakfast caters for most tastes. The evening meals, in the lounge and room service are good value. At the moment there are underground service upgrades but doesn’t interfere too much. Centrally located , walking distance to main CBD, and close to trams and train station.
Normally stay at the IC in Collins street but since I had to stay here for 5 nights during my conference (and work was paying) I chose to stay here - wow what an excellent choice. Staff were friendly and accommodating from start to finish. Rooms have been recently refurbished and have great facilities - large screen TVs, ample power outlets and USB ports - no need to use the power multi board I carry this time! Rooms also have extra large windows so afford nice views over the city Works outside didn't bother me at all and I was on the 3rd floor over looking them. The restaurant is very nice and ate there a 3 times for dinner. Fitness center is small with the ample weights - cycle, rowing and running machines . Definitely would have no hesitation in staying again.
There are a lot of reviews here that outline the plus points of this hotel, so not too much from me to add. However, if you’re looking for a quiet hideaway from the city, this unfortunately isn’t it at the moment. A long refurb project is still ongoing, which currently includes the gym on the first floor. Myself and a colleague arrived at around 4 in the afternoon. As an IHG a member the hotel had my preferences - a high floor, and a quiet room away from the elevator. Alas, not to be - 2nd floor, and when I stepped out of the lift, the room was opposite. Back to reception to be told there was nothing else available higher (seemed strange given the rock bottom rates for the stay) but a room down the corridor was eventually free. Once at the room, literally at the second I opened the door the row that started up was unbelievable...drilling, hammering, etc. I understand all hotels need refurbishment at some stage, but in my view, shouldn’t the fact be made very clear when booking, or at least when checking in? Poor form IHG...perhaps the reason for the low rates. Building work in this hotel is from approx 10am til 5pm during the working week, and is on the first floor...as I said, no gym as a result. To add to that, on the road outside a long term sewage upgrade is underway, so a double whammy. If you are sure you’re out all day, then no worries. Rooms are good, spacious and a touch above most Holiday Inns I’ve stayed in. I’d certainly recommend checking with the hotel before you confirm a booking. So, only three stars, but it will be four minus the noise once the work has finished.
I stayed here during the refurbishment and construction period and while there was some disturbance it did not detract from my stay at all. I have noted that the refurb finished some time ago now and I would definately stay here again. The breakfast room was light and airy and the buffet had everything one would expect. The rooms are quite small but if you are staying for business then that's all you need. Holiday Inn MEL on Flinders is located right at the very end of Flinders Lane and Spencer St, so it's a very short stroll around the corner to Southern Cross station and for that matter not too far a walk from Etihad Stadium. As mentioned I would stay here again.
Despite the renovations and the street works (which are out the hotel's hands) the hotel is very pleasant. Our room was at the back with no view but we were worried about the street noise and requested a quiet one. It was indeed very quiet, recently renovated and the bathroom clean and new. Staff were very welcoming. Staff really make a difference to your stay, thanks to them all, especially Michelle who we met at breakfast who was very kind to us and the children. Unfortunately the hotel swimming pool was closed just for the few days we were there which was disappointing as it was one of the main reasons we booked there! But these things happen. Good spread for breakfast, including eggs cooked to order. Personally I would have liked more fresh fruit but there was a good range of other things including a juicer and automatic pancake machine which was great. The quality of room service food was good. The hotel has some opportunities to keep improving - eg it advertises itself as a family hotel yet doesn't really provide anything especially for children to welcome them eg at breakfast some small non-breakable crockery, cups, smaller utensils, maybe something to draw on/colouring/activity like a crossword puzzle or spotting for older kids. It could all be branded. The sliding door of the bathroom retracts all the way inside the cavity and there is no handle to get it out. The toiletries were not all replaced daily which was disappointing as we needed the shower cap and cotton wool as our child came down with an ear infection. A choice of pillows in the room - soft or firm. Good range of TV options available. It all worked. Bedside lights or low light lamps of some sort would be good for when some want to sleep while others want to stay up a bit longer. All in all a good budget hotel, clean, friendly and great location for walking around the CBD.
What impresses me the most when staying at a hotel is the greeting you receive from staff at reception. This place never fails to impress. Ellie and Danni were professional courteous and friendly. Hotel rooms top notch and breakfast in sirocco always sets you up for the day. Another great stay. Will always return.
This hotel is in a good location but has a few temporary issues. The streets outside are all being dug up, so taxi pick up is a problem. Inside the hotel is in the middle of a refurbishment. So, some parts, like the lifts are not in good condition, but other parts, like the rooms, are perfect. The staff are friendly and helpful. The overall facilities are good value for money.
Great hotel ,in good location, Nice room with all that you need for a comfortable nights stay .Great staff They were doing some sort of inspection on room when we arrived about 13.30 ,Gave us a free drinks voucher to use in their bar /cafe which was nice walking distance to Southern cross station like 5 mins . close to bus station ,and lots of eateries.
Impressed with the room for the price. Spacious, clean, slightly business orientated. Desk, big Wall TV with insputs at desk to feed laptop or phone etc, comfy chair with ottoman, huge picture window, tinted and with electric blinds. Plenty of power outlets well placed. No mini bar though. Terrific bathroom. Huge shower space with good pressure and fast hot water delivery. Loved the slot drain which was placed across the cubical doorway so no water flooded the bathroom floor. Modern and clean. Soft close cupboards and drawers. Super friendly and help full staff. Super fast room service meals also and reasonable prices. Big bar area at reception with plenty of seating and tables. I had only two complaints - one major was that being an older building the water pipes to the upper floors were very noisy and irregular throughout the evenings and mornings. I suspect it was filling a roof tank to provide water to upper floors. A minor complaint was the next days towels I was given were thin and threadbare which was disappointing they were hanging on to them for so long. But I wanted to be near Southern Cross Station and the location was excellent. Despite being on Spencer street the rooms were quiet other than the water pipe irregularly through the night. Three lifts insured I never waited long. I didn't use it but the hotel has its own valet parking with car direct to reception under cover. I would definitely stay here again should my needs to be city based arise again.
