Up graded good but room right on Spencer Street so heard trams well into the night. No pillow menu Nice pillows stuffed into small slips which made them very high. Not good. Staff very friendly and mentipnef that regulars donnot stay on that side. Been there lots so go figure Most delicisious breakfast
After a long trip from Sydney we arrived at the Holiday Inn to be greeted by friendly reception staff. After the speedy check in we booked our car into the valet parking. We arrived at our room and were straight away very pleased with the new suite we received, it had a very modern feel with all the amenities one could need. Having two young children trying to get organised and remembering what we need from the car can be a challenge. We of course forgot a few things and I went to the front desk to ask if I could go and retrieve them. A lovely lady called Lauren insisted that she could retrieve what I needed and it was no hassle at all. We returned to our room and soon after there was a knock on the door. It was Lauren with exactly what we asked for, fantastic service. Stupid me forgot spare nappy's so once again I went to the front desk and asked Lauren if she could retrieve them for me out of the car. Without hesitation she was more than happy to help me AGAIN! I will be recommending the Holiday Inn to anyone that asks about accommodation in Melbourne as the service was second to none. Also give Lauren a raise because she went over and above.
We were a group of 40 and we occupied the corner suite overlooking the street. The corner room had ceiling to floor glass windows affording a good view over the street. The Southern Cross Station is diagonally across the hotel offering very good transport connections. The buffet breakfast was lavish and offered vegan and gluten free options and fresh juice options like wheat grass. The front desk staff was very helpful in giving tips about transport in and around the city. Particular mention must be made of staff member Danii who offered to have a packed breakfast ready for the group as we were to check out at an unearthly hour of 3 am for the flight. We would not have availed of it had she not made the offer as many hotels kitchens do not open before 6 am. A lot of eating options are available around the hotel should you choose to eat out including restaurants at the Cross station. Most sights are located closeby within walking distance including the promenade on the river. The rooms and bathrooms were very clean and the room was made everyday. The hotel offered us an apology letter for the noise disturbance caused by renovation work being carried out but as we were away for most part of the day and returned late in the evening, we did not particularly mind. However if you plan to sleep in late that could be a problem.
There are lots of pluses in choosing this Hotel for your next stay in the Melbourne CBD. It is across the road from Southern Cross Station, giving you great access to all metropolitan trains, trams, and The Skybus, which connects you directly to Melbourne Airport. Etihad Stadium and Southbank are only a ten minute walk away, and there are a swathe of eateries, and convenience stores on your doorstep. On arrival, Mrs C ,and I were greeted warmly, and efficiently at reception. The young lady even apologised for the renovations that were taking place, and hoped our stay would not be disrupted.....it wasn't. Within a couple of minutes we were exiting the lift on the second floor.Clear bold signage, indicated the direction of our room, something that is often lacking in many Hotels, however much appreciated in this instance. Our refurbished room was very impressive, nice carpets, furnishings, and state of the art led lighting. The quality flowed through to the bathroom, with great tiling, a huge shower, complete with a flexible, removable shower rose, another nice touch which we liked!! A king sized bed awaited our slumbers, it was fitted with crisp white sheets and a matching doona, with four large pillows, two soft and two firm, they call it a pillow menu? I call it giving you a choice. The room is dominated by a massive floor to ceiling window, in fact when the two electrically operated blinds are down, one for privacy, and the other for total blackout, it looks very much like a movie theatre screen. However at the touch of a button, night becomes day, and the outside world is brought into your surroundings, it changes the ambiance of the room in an instant..we loved it!! A lot of thought and clever initiatives, have gone into the design and refurbishment of these rooms, some subtle and some quite bold, we reckon it works very nicely, and we look forward to our next stay at" The Holiday Inn On Flinders "
In a convenient location for Spencer Street station, trams, the city centre and Docklands. location and decent size room. Good work desk and adequate lighting. Good overall value for money. Staff on reception morning and evening were excellent, helpful and professional.
I got a good deal on this overnight twin room. The first room we were shown was on the ground floor and faced a brick wall 1/2m from the floor to ceiling window. I felt so claustrophobic and went back to reception, they then gave us a room overlooking Spencer Street which was great. The pool area was cold and uninviting but kids swam anyway. Location great and they were accommodating after the initial room swap.
The hotel did offer a verbal and written apology for the ongoing renovation noise. Frankly it didn't worry me. Being given a room on the yet unrenovated room it became clear that the need for upgrade was there -it was tidy ,the amenities were there ,the bed was comfortable but it looked rather tired. Please when the refreshed rooms are finished include a coffee machine -those irritating sachets of granulated coffee belong in ma and pa motels not city properties with a mission of attracting business clients. The location being so close to Southern X station and free city trams is excellent.
Always dislike it when Hotel apologies about noise expected due to up grades, and you get a room that needs more than an upgrade. Friends had an upgraded room, and stayed 2 days less, so a bit put out. Breakfast very ordinary with Mr Egg not able to understand soft omelette so turned up like a rubber frisbee. Small area had people complaining about not being able to sit at table, in fact we got moved from a table for no apparent reason, only to watch another lady in an argument over another table, moved for no reason we could follow. Queue for toaster a bit poor too. Very convenient to Southern Cross station but too far from shopping if you buy a lot of gear. Would not stay again next visit. Wifi at $22/day a rip off, given other hotels do not charge now days.
We have stayed several times with Holiday Inn as IHG Members in various countries and again where satisfied with our Melbourne Holiday Inn stay. This was a special occasion stay for our wedding anniversary and during the booking process nominated this. We where happily upgraded to a king room & a newly refurbished room on the 3rd level on the Flinders lane side. The room refurbished room was excellent including a great bathroom with huge shower, new king bed which was very comfortable, electrics blinds including a 2nd blackout, new carpet & furniture. A bottle of sparkling on ice awaited us with a lovely welcome & congratulations note from management, along with free internet & a change of pillow promptly provided as requested. Mathew & Lauren where great assistance with checkin & checkout, many thanks to both. The renovations are nearing completion and really did not affect our stay at all. Breakfast on Sunday morning was very good with no complaints, enjoying the egg service, juicing & pancake machine. The pool area really needs the next renovation attention as it is very tired and would be a great improved addition when completed. We will stay again & would recommend this good located & value hotel to family & friends.
