The nature reserve of Contrafforte Pliocenico is also worth a visit. The Apennines of Bologna offer an unforgettable natural backdrop for your hikes. The scholar, the fat man, the red man - these are Bologna's three affectionate nicknames. In the city you will find the oldest university in Europe, a famous cuisine and the red and yellow buildings that can be seen everywhere in the cityscape.
