My husband and I were booked into The Peppertree by our travel agent as we did a 3 week tour of New Zealand for our 50th wedding anniversary. Heidi, the host, is a warm, gracious and very helpful person; and she and her husband Werner have restored this beautiful home over the last 20 years so that it is a wonderful place to stay. Her breakfasts, formally set in a lovely dining room, are full breakfasts with various kinds of bread/muffins that she bakes every day, with berries or other fruit from her garden. I highly recommend the Peppertree for a very special B&B experience. (Heidi is also happy to provide a map and recommendations for dinner restaurants in the nearby town.)
We greatly enjoyed our stay at ‘The Peppertree’ - staying in the ‘William Morris’ room we had a spacious and comfortable base from which to explore all the delights of Blenheim! Our hosts were both courteous and friendly, laying on a delicious breakfast each morning, and even a drinks party on our second evening. It was lovely to spend time with this delightful family.I can also recommend that home-made wine, which is that as delicious as any we tasted on the professional Estates.
The Peppertree is a true gem. After getting off the ferry in Picton, we made the short drive to Blenheim and were warmly greeted by Heidi, the owner of the Peppertree with husband Werner. Our first floor room was lovely with a quiet terrace. Werner and Heidi have a small vineyard and we enjoyed their wine at an early evening tasting with several other guests. When you walk the grounds you see the amazing variety of fruits grown and lovingly tended. The Peppertree was a memorable stop for us as we began out New Zealand South Island adventure!
Thanks to Heidi and Werner for such a pleasurable two night stay in Marlborough wine country. The Peppertree is just over 5 kms south of Blenheim. We were staying in the Venetian Room on the ground floor. It is a lovely bright room, very spacious with a large double bed, 2 chairs and small table. It has a lovely modern bathroom/wet room. There are doors leading out into a verandah with a table and chairs - a lovely spot to sit with a glass of wine in the evening watching the fantail birds playing in the small fountain. There is no a/c and the room got very hot during the day but it did cool down at night. Breakfast is a communal affair with the other guests but at a time that suits you although most guests seem to come at roughly the same time. It consisted of fruit and muesli, with ham and cheese and some of Heidi's delicious home made muffins. Eggs and bacon and toast were made to order. On the Saturday night that we were there Werner treated guests to wine from some of his own vines along with Heidi's canapés on the veranda at the front of the house. Heidi was extremely helpful in making restaurant recommendations and reservations and also organising taxis for those who didn't want to drive. Although just off the main road into Blenheim the house is far enough away that traffic noise is not a problem. The grounds are nicely landscaped and the Peppertree is very relaxing and peaceful.
Such welcoming hosts. Our room was nice with all the facilities you should require for your stay. A really warm and relaxing place to stay. The evening welcoming drinks for all guests was a nice touch.
This is a superb place to stay. The room we stayed in (Venetian) is spacious and well equipped with a deck outside looking onto a small fountain where fantails played with the water. The breakfasts are delicious with homemade muffins, bread and Bircher muesli which our host Heidi makes. We were directed to a local bistro for dinner which turned out to be so good we returned next day and Heidi organised us a taxi for each journey. We were treated to a tasting of Werner’s Chardonnay, which he makes from his small vineyard and is delicious. Overall a fabulous stay. The only criticism I have is the pool did not look inviting and could have done with a clean. We really recommend Peppertree and would return if we are back in the Marlborough region again.
We loved our two night stay here and agree with other reviews that Heidi and Werner are excellent hosts. Our only suggestion for improvement would be with regard to the swimming pool. It was ingested, quite cold even on a hot day, a looked murky and dirty. Also the ceiling fan in our room did not cool the dormer room down much so air con would have been nice.
Sadly only one nght’s stay at The Peppertree as this was a delightful B&B which provided excellent accommodation, delicious food and friendly, attentive hosts. It is an old house which has been sympathically converted to a B&B giving an old colonial charm to our stay.
From the welcome we received from owners Heidi and Werner to our goodbyes 2 days later, this was a highlight of our tour of NZ. In fact I think I may have over marked all of the 6 hotels we'd stayed in before. Breakfasts were superb, the greeting drink on our first evening (Werner's very own wine) was memorable, our fellow guests bonded during that and us and another couple went to a restaurant recommended by Heidi. Great evening. We were allocated the sunset room which led out to a secluded garden area with table and chairs and a swing seat. We also had their platter on our last evening ($ 58) which featured all sorts of cheeses, meat, fruit and fish plus bread and crackers. (We'd been on a wine tour and couldn't face going out again!) We could hear other guests in their rooms which is the only thing I could think of as a negative. However given the evident age of the building think this is necessary evil and soundproofing the rooms would take away its charm so I can live with that. Excellent.
We spent two nights in this lovely B&B owned by Heidi and Werner, originally from Switzerland. They are extremely welcoming and offer very comfortable rooms, ours (the Venetian) was a very good size with a small deck that caught the sun, and a lovely little fountain trickling to the side of the deck. We were not aware of any aircon but the room with its lovely high ceilings and solid walls was cool enough for us in February. The gardens are beautiful, with a small plunge pool, a gym shed, a vineyard, orchard, vegetable garden, a few livestock and a tractor. Heidi and Werner kindly invited all guests for a welcome drink and canapés where we were served their homegrown Chardonnay and it was lovely. We sat on the veranda in the evening sun with the other guests and it was simply lovely and very fitting of this quaint building full of antiques and lovely artwork. Breakfast was delicious with much of the produce coming from the gardens tended by Werner and Heidi. Heidi was a very attentive host and we absolutely loved this luxury B&B and would highly recommend it.
