The surroundings are beautiful here and you get a quiet room and decent meals. The amenities in the room, even hot water availability, were not of the highest standards. It was nice to take a walk around the place and look at the flora and fauna. They offered guided tours and a nature walk. The Simon Velez Jaramillo pavilion was special, using native bamboo in its entire construction. Must go in there and see it.
Hotel is part of the coffee conference center situated on a huge acreage. We went on a guided nature walk within the facility and visited the butterfly house, the hummingbird feeding station, the bonsai garden, the orchid displays, the zen garden ...etc. It was beautiful. The guest room was absolutely no frill. There was no thermostat to regulate room temperature, no refrigerator and the bathroom was small. The room was clean. This could be a great place if amenities could be added. One star was added because of the setting.
Beginning with the positive, our room was clean and comfortable and the bilingual waiter at the restaurant who served us for both dinners was friendly and very helpful. The food was also plentiful and reasonably priced and the grounds are beautiful and well maintained. On the negative side, there was a large party with loud music until 3:00 am. There was no water at the hotel from after dinner until our departure at 7:00 am the next morning and no explanation or apology was given at check out. Last, but not least, the front desk was not honest in changing money with me: quickly grabbing the 100,000 peso bill I asked for change and then arguing with me that I had only provided a 10,000 peso bill for change. This behavior was very disappointing. I hope someday to return to the beautiful Manizales area, but I will not return to this hotel.
We were very unimpressed & letdown by this hotel. The place is very dated and facilities were below average. The room was large and clean but came with no kettle or minibar/mini fridge, therefore making it impossible to have a cup of tea of an evening. There was no way of heating the room which is unacceptable for a cool destination, I was left freezing cold of a night. The shower was not hot, Lukewarm at best which is very poor for a "hotel". The restaurant onsite is way overpriced for the quality of food. We paid over $60.000 pesos for such a bland and minimal meal. Lastly, we expected for the hotel to be peaceful and quiet of an evening as it markets itself as a "nature retreat", however on our second evening we were unable to sleep due to a concern which did not conclude until 2am (Thursday evening). Overall, we were very disappointed with the hotel and wouldn't recommend it. Overpriced and disappointing.
Our stay at Estelar was good. Even though it is not a family hotel (It's a convention center), that is what we were looking for on the Coffee Route, my family and me liked it. We used on the night of arrival an open jacuzzi. Staff is super friendly and helpful. Breakfasts is the same as the Estelar hotel chain, buffet style and good. I strongly recommend to make the hike of bird watching and the ecological one.
This could be such a wonderful place, and the staff working here are great but, the facilities for the price were too basic. Our room was small, had no coffee maker, no mini bar and no iron. When we went to eat in the restaurant in the evening we encountered well meaning staff working in a desolate environment with the dullest of hotel menus. This actually turned out to be a godsend as it forced us to leave and discover a truly great restaurant in the city. So much potential but not worth the money.
Staying in this hotel and not taking the ecological park tour would be an unacceptable mistake. The nature preserve makes this place special. Hotel itself was interesting to me as well, reminding me East German atmosphere. It also oddly brought the memories from a recent visit to one of the kibbutzes in Israel. Very intriguing. The whole facility is functional but seems to be lacking in details but yet you will end up liking it because of the grounds. The Colombian Coffee Growers Association has patronage over the entire resort. The rooms are simple. They do not seem to have tea/coffee stations ( would be a nice upgrade...). The decor is simple. Toiletries sufficient. The WiFi is very weak. One has to walk to dinning area which is in another building. The food is good but not great. Many interesting structures on the grounds... A lot of empty buildings which look like they have a lot of purpose perhaps during the time of conferences and meetings. The large bamboo structure Pabellon Zeri is pride and joy of this resort. Ponds, fountains, various animals in pens and of course the chapel will draw your attention. This must be a great event center during conventions. Overall we enjoyed our few day stay due to the beauty of the location. Take the tour, go up on the chair lift and descend back to the hotel following the trail down. Bonsai displays, orchid forest, amazing plants, interesting bird-watching are among the things likely to fascinate you. I would go back to this place.
The setting is what makes the hotel feel special. It’s on the edge of a nature reserve and a peaceful atmosphere permeates the place. The dinning area is in a separate area which I found strange at first but then enjoyed the chance to breath the air. The food was good, not excellent. The rooms were average sized, very clean, the wifi was weak in the room. We were please with the laundry service. I strongly recommend taking the nature tour while staying here.
The best thing about the hotel is the ecological park on the grounds. The property is owned and maintained by the Colombian Coffee Association. We took a cable car up to the starting point of a beautiful walk through a hummingbird sanctuary, bonsai display, forest full of orchids, koi pond, and an area with three ostrich, a red deer and some sheep. Room was adequate, clean and quiet. Breakfast was good. We had to go to the lobby to get a strong wifi signal.
I loved this hotel with the exception of the hard beds. The hotel has beautiful grounds that makes for a relaxing time. Make sure to make time to visit the ecological reserve on the grounds. Stunningly beautiful with many varieties of orchids, humming bird and butterfly sanctuary, and a bonsai garden. Massages were great but used a little too much oil for my tastes. I left the massage dripping in oil.
