I had a room with 2 double beds to accommodate my family. Having paid a considerable amount for the room I was a little dissapointed. There was no coffee table in the room and it felt cramped. The two double beds were not very wide ones but took up almost whole width of room. There was only a bedside table between the two beds but not at each end so nowhere to leave my nightime stuff. The bathroom was clean but oddly the door to it was placed right next to ones shoulder in bed instead of in the corridor near the entrance to the room as is usual. Also we were surprised to see a waste of space in the bathroom as although there was a bath the shower was placed in a separate cramped shower cubicle. It was not a powerful shower to add insult to injury. The window in the bedroom was small and let very little light in which was another design floor of the hotel. Breakfast was good and the best thing about the hotel were the staff who were very attentive and friendly.
To anyone thinking of booking this hotel... be aware that you must have the original debit card you paid with, even if you’ve paid in full for the hotel MONTHS before you arrive as they will cancel your booking! I’m not sure as the reason behind this but something doesn’t seem quite right when they already have your money! Anyway, as this hotel was booked as a gift for my parents, it completely ruined their experience when they were told their booking was going to be cancelled and they had to pay again on their card. In addition to this, they were spoken to very rudely by the lady on reception and I will not be booking this hotel again in future.
When we arrived to check int he receptionist asked us for the. Are that was used to make the booking, as it was our daughter who paid for the hotel 3 months ago as a surprise to see Sam Smith she had already paid on her. And for the hotel. They would not let us check in unless we had the original. Add with us, despite us explaining why we didn't have the debit card, she insisted we had to pay gain on our debit card and then she would refund our daughter, what a mess. The receptionist said " Do you want me to lose my job"' no, but then I would have used my discretion to resolve the issue without upsetting the customer.
Hotel in the Northern quarter, not the nicest situation, but close to the city centre attractions, shops and restaurants. A bar downstairs but some extras that didn’t particularly warm me to the hotel. The need to pay £5 for Internet, seems a bit unfriendly in this day and age.Bar downstairs looked ok, but no character, probably ok for business trips and my suggestion would be that this is prime site for business trips in the city, so don’t expect too much
Second stay here in a year and worse than the last time. Although we booked months ago our party of four adults were given one of the smallest rooms in the hotel. Possibly also one of the shabbiest and our air con didn’t work and with no window to open this led to Avery uncomfortable first night. Rooms weren’t ready on arrival so had to wait in the bar which is fair enough but following day we returned at 4pm and couldn’t access our room as they were still cleaning. In spite of asking receptionist to move our room nothing was done. To pay £475 for an uncomfortable room is ridiculous! Everyone deserves a second chance but I can now say definitively we will not be back!
I visited here over a weekend in March with my partner, a late Christmas treat for her as we both love Manchester. When we checked in the lady asked me to show the debit card that I had already paid for the hotel with! I didn’t have that card with me so she demanded I paid again and she would refund the other. No idea why this policy is in place but it is ridiculous, I have never known this in any hotel ever! When we got to our room the room was fine and spacious, another little niggle was they left 1 small bottle of water in our room to share? I mean come on guys either do it correctly or don’t bother! Breakfast on Sunday morning was an absolute train crash, we waited 15 minutes to even get a table, when we did it was dirty, we didn’t get offered tea or coffee, had to get our own cutlery so on.. they are clearly short staffed and don’t have enough tables to cater for all guests. Plenty of better value hotels close by in my opinion.
Stayed here for two nights. Lovely room..modern decor and en-suite with a comfy bed. Ideal location - only 5 mins walk from Selfridges, Harvey Nichols and the Arndale shopping centre. Plenty of restaurants and bars close by too! The only downside - it was quite noisy in the night with the traffic outside and sirens! But hey, wouldnt expect anything less when staying in a city! All in all, a lovely few days away
From the moment we walked through the door we were welcomed. Angelica checked us into our specified room which was a quiet room with 2 double beds. We arrived at 11.30 & could go to our room straight away which was great. Our room was on 5th floor & we were able to pay for the club room access which was a benefit. We had drinks & canapes before going out & we had breakfast there the following morning. Would definitely stay here again. Everything great but Angelica fantastic!! Room was extremely clean & all staff we met were very friendly We required a taxi for a restaurant booking& Angelica was more than happy to help. On checking out & requesting they kept our luggage, Angelica was more than happy to assist. Angelica was fantastic, friendly & a credit to the Holiday Inn if only all hotel staff were like her...... amazing!!!!
This is a disappointing review for me to write as my husband and I have stayed here over 10 times easily. We love Manchester and the Crowne Plaza was always our first port of call for somewhere to stay. We booked 2 double rooms well in advance of attending a concert in Manchester on 9th March. Any other times before we have always secured the room with a credit card and paid in full on arrival. When booking through booking.com we secured the rooms & it said no prepayment necessary, pay on arrival. On the day we were due to stay I had a notification to say my card details needed updating, it had expired. I updated them within 20 minutes and left it at that. At 3:15pm when we were about to leave I had a notification to say both rooms had been cancelled. I called the hotel immediately and was rudely told there must be insufficient funds in my account. I explained this was not the case to which they said it is policy to cancel any rooms where payment was unable to be taken. I asked why there was any point in notifying me early on the day to update my details. There were no rooms left (within the 5 minutes from when I was told they were cancelled to when I called) and that after booking months in advance I was 4 hours away from a concert with no rooms. I understand that part of this is down to Booking.com but I was upset and disappointed that the hotel did not call me before cancelling the rooms. Even more so with being such a loyal customer. I will not be staying here again as I feel the rooms were cancelled in order to sell on at a greater fee. This is a shame as I love your hotel and always recommend it to others.
Stayed at this hotel with my daughter when going to the arena, fantastic stay , lovely room very clean, staff couldn’t do enough for you, well worth paying for the breakfast, the choice was brilliant, would definitely return.
