I stayed in this hostal just one night in a family room. When I read the review I thought it would be terrible, but actually it wasn't that bad. The rooms are clean, the bathroom is small but the shower has warm water and they provide towels and cutlery. There's no longer breakfast service and the staff is friendly and they explain everything to you. The entrance is not good though, it is in a third level without lift. I would recommend it for one or two nights if you're gonna use it to sleep only and being out during the day.

The romm was very cold, stairs terrible, nobody at the reception, the man and the woman, probably the owners, were very stupid and racists! It was a terrible experience and I really doesnt recomend to anyone! RACISTS! Its saids also Bed And Breakfast, but it was totally fake. There was no breakfast!

Entrance was horrible , stairs Slippery and dangerous and lift nowhere to be found. No reception , no paperwork to fill in. Room was tiny and when we checked in fridge was leaking all over the floor. Toilet door would close properly as the furniture with the microwave was blocking it. Two small towels left on the room. There is nothing like the pictures, no toiletries samples or snacks or drinks like the photos present , nothing. Me and my boyfriend were concerned about how often the woollen blanket was cleaned so we removed it. Noisy at night as our room was In front of the entrance. Wifi does not work good. None of the owner speak English so we could not communicate a word with them. Only good thing was location in the centre of Madrid. I'm sure though there is plenty of places with same price around the centre. We would not recommend this hostel, sorry.

I should've read other reviews before I book this hostel. I went there with my family and didn't know there was no elevator. I was the only man and can lift heavy luggages from the base to the hostel. Beside this, everything was great. Room was clean and nice. But I will never book this hostel again.

Went on a cheap deal, stayed for 3 nights room clean n bed comfy but then air con did not work tv did not work. Blinds that let light in. Not a 3 star no way. Not cleaned once during our stay. Breakfast bread n marmalade with a cake, juice it's left in your room the day before. No safe in room as advertised. Owner would not store luggage on last day, when I asked on 1 day she said we could. Location is ok. The stairs omg 3 flights of rickety wooden stairs before you get to the hotel. If you are looking at reviews n thinking of booking stay away. Just pay a little more. Madrid is amazing.

1 night stay would be tolerable as it's located in central madrid, close to everything. But it's in a pretty dodgy suburb, with dodgy entry, no lift & very run down stairs. Room clean enough. When we showered, water leaked into the bedroom, huge puddle. Staff doesnt speak a word of english, so very difficult in a city which we've never visited. I wouldn't return.

I stayed in hostal oxum for a week and i can tell how negative this experience was for me and my girlfriend. Don't trust website photos, they aren't realistic and you can't understand how small the rooms are! The entrance was horrible and we had to go upstairs without lift and the hostal's at the third floor! The staff isn't friendly... They didn't even help take our baggages upstairs. Our room was small and dirty and they didn't clean even when we asked to them. Another problem was the comunication: they speak only in spanish. Air conditioning worked well, but they demanded us to use it just a bit, because the electrical system had problems, but it was August in Madrid and was really hot. The hostal is really cheap, but i think there are better places at the same price... The only advantage was the position; it's near the main street "gran via" and there are many places where you can eat at a fair price or you can take the subway to move to another location.

The hostel is very uncomfortable! The pictures on the homepage do not represent the real condition of the rooms. Breakfast only exists of toast bread with ketchup and a milk with juice - ihhhhh! No coffee... The entry was the most terrible thing of the hostel! No workable air conditioning in the room which means we had to leave the windows open. This was very very loud at night and at day! Please don't choose this one!!!!

Coming down a busy and vibrant street, you're met with big steel gates and you have to ring the intercom for access. Go through the gates and you will feel terrified, until being met by a nice lady who indicated the stairs to us. We though they were clean and well lit, despite being well worn. After we made it up the four flights, another lady was waiting for us at the door and was so welcoming! We can't speak Spanish and she couldn't speak English, but her giving us a set of keys and explaining which was for our room, the gate, and the main door was surprisingly easy. The wifi was good, but be aware that the access instructions left in your room aren't correct - there was a post it note in the hallway with the details. The room was pretty cool, and came with a hair dryer, ironing board, and fridge/freezer. Good aircon too! The only things that bothered me was that breakfast was never left for us in our room the day before, like we had expected, being that it was a main feature of the hotel. There also isn't really a reception, it's more like a guesthouse, so we couldn't find anyone to ask about brekky, or for another pillow, as the only ones we had were decorative faux leather throw pillows (not fun to sleep on in summer) and one long "body pillow" serving as a head pillow for two people in a double bed. However, there's a cheap bakery across the road. There's also a funky 50's style diner across the road which was a kick, and a place called "El Tigre" up the street where you can buy a giant beer/sangria for six euro, and they bring you plates of free tapas! Great place for the budget traveller

Upon arrival to hostal oxum the entrance makes you fear the worst. Up the rickety wooden staircase and through the door a modern and nicely decorated hostal awaits. Initially the wait to be checked in was off putting and the faulty air conditioning made the room rather warm but the attentive and friendly service by the two staff despite not speaking English they made us feel at home. Unfortunately there was no sign of breakfast for us and the check in information was very limited. An ideal location to see the city centre but far enough away to be away from all the noise. All in all not a bad hostal for its price, although not your typical hostal.
