The location is perfect. Quick walk to 3rd street and the beach. I recommend going when they have a pool party because that was a vibe.

Registration was easy and hassel free. We stayed in 1 bedroom with gourmet kitchen. Room was spacious and semi clean. Luckily I brought disinfectant and cleaner because there were brown splatters all over the bathroom curtain. I sprayed with bleach & water and it eventually went away. The pool and hot tub was nice and the court yard had pleanty of seating and a few games for entertainment. Unfortunately the courtyard furniture was filthy. Had to take a towel each time I wanted to sit and watch the kids play games. The restaurant was nice and the location was fantastic! Access to the beach was an easy walk across the street, up/down a few stairs and across the bridge. We did park in one of the nearby garages which was $20/ day compared to the $40 valet at the property. Overall a nice experience.
Ants in the rooms parking 50$ for each vehicle disappointment with room sold and what they offer is different
Loved that the room was private from the restroom and kitchen as well as the living room I felt like I had my own place at the time of my stay I loved it and will be going there again soon
Hotel is located 1 block for the very busy area on ocean drive - we love it because of this.....it is a boutique hotel and everyone is very nice! We stay only at this hotel.
We loved being able to charge our Tesla. Attendants were pleasant and friendly.
The customer service and maid service was top notch!! Friendly staff, close to so much, definitely 5 stars! If I was gonna head back to santa Monica I would insist on a stay at the hotel Shangri La in Santa Monica 💗🌈 also, the bananas foster French toast I had for room service was fast and incredibly delicious! 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟
We had a wonderful experience. From the moment we checked in until we left . Every staff member was so helpful and nice . It was my boyfriends birthday and the staff went above and beyond and had a card and bottle of wine waiting for him in room. The hotel itself was beautiful. I will definitely be back . The only small thing is that the hot tub was not very warm . We asked to have someone come check it and although staff said they would send someone , no one came , so we just went back to room . Overall , our experience was great !!
The TV did not work for the entirety of our stay despite repeated requests for a repair. The manager failed to follow up on our request for a bill adjustment.

I loved the staff!!, got Champagne upon arrival. Roof top bar a must!!, spectecluar views, and great bites!! Ocean room well worthit!!, relaxing view!! However, outrageous prices for snacks in room, $10 for a bottle of water. Honestly, I paid $450 a night, 2 bottles of water should be complimentary, every day, as well as a keurig coffee maker that makes tea and coffee. That is available everywhere you go. I would have loved to have seen breakfast included for this price. Breakfast prices were steep, I did not feel like spending $50- $60 breakfast for 2 a la carte. If there was a buffet with a lot of variety I would have. We went to small places such as : Le pain quotidien, Barney's Beanery, where we had the most amazing breakfasts for $30 including tip for 2. The location is amazing, 5 mins walking to third street promenade, and 5-10 mins to the Santa Monica Pier.
My wife and I went on our honeymoon to Santa Monica and chose this hotel (Hotel Shangri-La) to stay as it was close to the beach and although it was a stretch for our budget (top-end), we looked at it as being an exceptional expense given it was our honeymoon. We were pretty surprised at the cost of parking our rental car - the only option was valet, and it was $42 per night, regardless of how many times the car was needed per day. In addition, the staff was very friendly, but the room condition/quality would not have passed for a chain hotel, so I certainly don't think it should have been a pass for a luxury hotel. For example, the lightbulb in the bathroom was out for our entire stay (7 days), and while we didn't make mention of it, I don't feel that one should have to mention it if an establishment is truly 4 or 5 star-worthy. There were also a couple of prominent cracks in the window of our room, scuffs on the baseboards, paint over rust on the exterior of the window, and shoddy painting on the inside of the door. We are not snobby, but attention to detail you would expect to be paid in a highly rated establishment was not paid here. Again, the staff was very friendly and the room was cleaned promptly, but there were little things, like not replenishing the soap or the toilet that dripped throughout our entire stay, that just caused an unpleasant experience, especially given the nightly rate which was north of $200.
I enjoyed the hotel very much. I mainly was just in the hotel to sleep. I would not recommend it for someone who views the hotel part of there over all experience. For me it was perfect, clean, and the pool was nice. Location was my favorite part.
This hotel is a Santa Monica icon. Built in 1939 but beautifully updates not long ago. Rooftop bar is unique and is a must see for young tourists. The lobby and pool areas make you feel like you stepped back in time, in a good way.
