Friendly staff and well decorated hotel. Close to great shops

We stayed in the hotel for four nights. Our room was big and the bathroom was nice. The herbarium hang on the wall were interesting. Franklin is a old hotel and the bedroom recalls me a sense of age. People who work there are really thoughtful and helpful. They really care their customers and will try their best to satisfy the needs. It was a good experience to stay in the hotel!

I was very excited to book our stay at the Franklin hotel. It was only 6 months old and had some good reviews like, " the sexiest hotel in London". I'm not sure how many hotels that the reviewer has been in, but it is NOT what I would call sexy. A very, very intimate hotel is probably a better description. The building is not very noticeable. It's situated in what seems to be a quiet residential neighborhood in a red brick building that is identical to the one next to it. You could easily walk past without even noticing the main entrance to the hotel. It should have come as no surprise that the taxi attendant had never even heard of it. The lady who checked us in was very nice and friendly. She had to help us drag in our luggage as there was no porter to be seen. We were lead over to a marble table too large for the space it occupied and were asked to complete some paperwork while she disappeared to make copies of our passports. Looking around, I should have realized right there and then that a regular 5 Star hotel should not be in a converted residential townhouse. I should have made a dash for the door right then. After filling out paperwork, we were then introduced to a gentleman that briefly showed us around the hotel and took us down a small, dark grey hallway to our tiny "superior" room on the second floor. The walls were painted dark grey and there was a motif with a laurel wreath with some man's name. It looked like a memorial for someone. I did not question i

Dear TravellingMan19866 First of all I would like to wish you a happy New Year 2017 and thank you for your review. Further to it, we took good note of your comments about the hotel design and feedback about your stay. The Franklin hotel displaying a large flag and signage at the entrance, located in the heart of Knightsbridge, walking distance from Harrods, the V&A... and overlooking Egerton Gardens is a heaven of peace and quiteness usally very much appreciated by our guests. Please, kindly be informed that the hotel designer is Mrs. Anouska Hempel and that she became popular using the predominant grey declined in all his tones and soft fabrics and furniture. Moreover, Joseph Hermann, stenciled in some of our rooms is a famous artist, close friend of Lord Egerton who lived in the building and gave his name to the area. Also, as you must have seen in the email which I have sent you after your departure we have refunded the £89 to your credit card as agreed. Again, I would like to apologise if your first impact with hotel design and services were not up to your expectations, we have taken your feedback very seriously and resolved all the issues outlined in your above review and we do look forward to welcoming you back at The Franklin in a close future. Kind Regards Nicolas Esclapez
