Lovely hotel not much of a view from where we were but spotless and very comfortable spacious room. Nice restaurant on site and good variety at Breakfast. We asked for a late check out and this was very reasonable for 3pm checkout only £20. Great hotel for a weekend breaks. Borough market and tube close by
As an Accor member, this is easily the best Mercure I have stayed in. OK, I chose the "CHAMBRE PRIVILÈGE", which was a lovely spacious room (and not exactly cheap), but the hotel is in excellent state (many Mercure hotels have a slightly tired feel) and the room was impeccable. Not sure if the fact it was a ground floor room meant it was designed for handicapped clients, or whether all rooms to this standard are so designed, but no matter. It was thoughtfully laid out (except no shelf for toiletries in the spacious walk-in shower, which might annoy someone with restricted mobility) I am not usually a fan of ground floor rooms, but this was well insulated as it looked out directly onto Southwark Road and the bus stop in front. Which leads to the location - an easy walk from Southwark tube, it is close to the Tate Modern and the wonderful (terrorists notwithstanding) Borough Market and close to the South Bank. Just a great location. I had breakfast in the Marco Restaurant - plenty of choice and good quality (though fresh orange juice might have been a nice extra touch). Friendly welcome from all staff throughout the stay. Check-in is idiosyncratic at a sort of table area with laptops...and the check-in seemed strangely slow for having already done it online....though it isn't the only chain that may have an erratic front-of-house computer system (n'est-ce pas, Marriott!). Check-out was a breeze...just handed in the card. A nice touch for Accor members is a free welcome drink at the bar, with a pleasant and comfortable bar area. This wasn't busy on the nights I stayed and my overall experience was very pleasant and relaxing. For gadget fans, the room tv was an impressive size and quality with more USB chargers and electric plugs in the room than any competition I have seen practically anywhere...a good recognition of modern gadget-obsessed travellers :-). All in, I am very pleased with this find and hope I can return there soon. PS Don't be put off by the exterior which is extremely unprepossessing - the inside makes up for it.
The staff I saw were all young and extremely helpful. From the young lady on the front desk coming outside to help with my suitcase, the waitress who recommended dishes to the young man who called me a taxi, all very professional offering service with a smile. The room was refurbished with plenty of power points in all the right places.
Stayed here for 9 nights for a company trip. Very nice, very clean, very friendly hotel. If you are reasonably fit, most of the attractions are within walking distance (London Bridge / Tower Bridge / Big Ben / Parliament / River Walk / etc.). My only rub was that the A/C did not work "overly" well. It cooled it a bit but not tremendously. Partly my fault for not requesting someone look at it but did not do that due to the fact that the window opens and was able to accomplish it that way. All in all, I would highly recommend this hotel and will be staying there on my next trip to London.
I stayed in the hotel for 2 nights and slept well. Rooms are well thought out and the restaurant is reasonably priced. However, unbeknownst to me is that they charge a 'service charge' to your bill at the restaurant of about 10%, which is not the tip. The tip is on top. I had some yogurt in my room last night and when I wanted to make coffee tonight it is clear the spoons were just badly wiped (see photos). It made me cringe to think I used it last night!!!! In general the cleanliness of the hotel is not great and they could definitely benefit from improving here. They have aircon. There are a few convenience stores within a 5 minute walk and lots of restaurants in the vicinity.
Stayed here with my grandson for a weekend visit to London. I think our room was one of the refurbished ones and was very comfortable, plenty of room, comfy beds and clean bathroom. Staff at check in were very very friendly. Safe in the room was locked when we arrived, but they fixed it straight away. Breakfast on first morning (Saturday) was very good, excellent staff, good food and a good start to the day. However breakfast on Sunday was a joke. It wasn't too busy and we were given a table that needed to be laid, not a problem, but we sat there like lemons for 10 minutes waiting for cutlery etc. Buffet was not replenished so had to ask for bacon, beans, hash browns! all of which came quite slowly. It won't stop me staying there again, but they need to sort out the Sunday breakfast. Would recommend though
The hotel is situated approx 12 minutes walk to 3 stations and therefore can be deemed as central. Unfortunately the convenience stopped there. The rooms are small and cost 200gbp per day on a corporate discount which is no small change and excludes breakfast. The bathroom does not come pre furnished with shower caps do call down for it which can be annoying. An iron and ironing board is provided in the room with little room for manuevering do not easy to use. To get into the hotel, you need to carry your cases up a few stairs. Not worth it.
Very relaxing.. Lovely bed, excellent breakfast. Only down side....the milk wasn't replenished, so I couldn't have a coffee in the morning...but I can live with that It is an ideal location as you can walk to either London Bridge or Waterloo ( for both northern Line Branches) and Southwark tube stations
We booked this hotel as we were attending a Wedding in central London. We were part of a much larger party, and I think everyone had a great experience. It is ideally placed and about 20 minutes from kings cross train station in a taxi. The staff were very friendly and the room was lovely. We had two extra beds in our room for our two young children. The rooms were very clean and well looked after. There is a Marco Pierre restaurant in the hotel which looked lovely but unfortunately we didn't have time to try. M&S food just across the road for any snacks or extras you may need. Lots of places to eat within five minutes walk. We would definitely stay here again for our next trip.
Lovely hotel and so clean, our room was perfect with a great little balcony for morning breakfast and to watch the sunrise - I would definitely stay again. Breakfast was spot on, staff were so lovely and helpful and the reception area is stunning!
