Britannia The International Hotel London, Canary Wharf

4.5 out of 5.0

The staff was pretty great Rooms and hotel itself were dirty and outdated. No functioning AC in the room. The hotel uses its old-fashioned quaintness as a pretext for not maintaining or updating the property.

Horrible hotel. Loud construction in building next door. Cost is low for a reason. Avoid. Almost all elevators broke down twice. Duct tape on every lobby sofa and chair. Mice in room. For room Wifi they try to squeeze 7 pounds per person out of you PER DAY and pushing upgrades and meals. Pool and gym and hot tub are ALL CLOSED 5 months now. Lobby cold, dusty from construction at pool and staff are slow to tidy up the lobby; the lobby FREE Wifi sucked. Lots of wall damage in hallways and room. So bad they even have signs at reception to not be rude or threaten staff. No fridge, safe or microwave in room, but yes an iron and board. Tv was good. Larger room was still small and smelled stale and musty. Staff away from reception often spoke no English or was rude. Area around is good and safe, but avoid this hotel. They try to act like they are 4 stars but it deserves maybe half or 1. It's rare for me to say, but I would not go back, even if price was super low.

It’s old and really overpriced. Walls were even dirty, door heavily damaged, it smelled bad and the beds are horrible. Restaurants are advised to be avoided, the food is horrible.

Avoid at all costs!! Not for the business traveler. Very unprofessional and unreasonable management team and staff.

3 lifts, 2 were broken. A/C broke one day/night. Not convenient to drag luggage from tube. Ok walk if no luggage. Room nice and clean for older hotel

We stayed at this hotel since it was close to the Excel London conference center. About 12 min by taxi. It's also a 10 min walk to Canada Place for shopping and trains to everywhere. Canary Wharf is a fine area. The room was spartan. My bed had a concave mattress. The hotel staff was nice at check-in. Didn't see or speak to them afterwards. The hotel itself had little to offer by way of amenities. There is a gym that you have to pay for. The lobby has a bar/lounge restaurant. The other restaurant was closed for remodeling. All in all, it was fine for the price. Reminds me of 2.5 star hotels in Manhattan midtown, except in NY the price would be 2x what i paid here.

Such a good location to get to my office. Unfortunately the hotel is badly run down and neglected. It needs an infusion of cash for basic maintenance - carpets, towels, sheets, furniture, etc. Just the basics would be an improvement! Public areas have dirty carpets and OLD furniture. The Indian restaurant is quite good but has terrible old furniture so the atmosphere is poor.

Time to Refurbish!!!! The chairs in the rooms are threadbare, the furniture battered from use and the carpets old and soiled. AND you pay additional for wifi!! You can see it was once a nice hotel but has been sadly neglected. The staff are professional and the "Spice" restaurant was quite good - again the furniture is worn out but the food was tasty. Don't bother with the breakfast, it is just standard fare that could be prepared and presented better.

Depressing and sad hotel. Dark and gloomy and uninviting.

Like most others who reviewed here I found it old and not appealing in the least. The whole experience was stressful.

Rooms difficult to find as signs poor. Restaurants disappointing and don't even think about breakfast - not nice. Old and not well kept

Unfortunately we arrived late at night and found the staff lacking in empathy for tired travellers. Breakfast arrangements were poorly explained and very costly. In addition we left some spare Euros in our room that went missing. Seriously need to rethink shower and only place in three countries, including Eurostar and Kew Gardens without free Wifi. Inconvenient for underground. Never again.

Could not find my room very badly designed signage and all rooms are either odd or even.

At one time this may have been a nice hotel but that day has passed. They need to spend some money on it to bring up the standard.

The carpets throughout are badly stained and worn and dirty!!! The towels are worn out too. They charge extra for WiFi and it is at best unreliable. Thwew are better hotels for the money, This one needs more attention and management,

This hotel was close to the office so is conveniently located. Staff helpful and pleasant to deal with. Décor and comfort of single rooms lacking. The heat went out when I was there and it was COLD!! They gave me a heater for the room but was still very cool. The public areas furniture and carpets are done - they need to be changed. Paying extra for WiFi on top of the room rate is unnecessary and annoying.

Generally a good one. Nice staff, not expensive. However, a little bit far from the downtown, and no free internet in room.

Hotel long due for rennovation. Old furnitures, room and even old towels... Good location. Cant beat that. However all facilities were really old.

This hotel is nowhere close to 4 stars more like 2 stars! The carpets are disgusting the air condition was broken and it 2 nights to be switched into a functional room. The staff is not very pleasant there is no proper system.

We were not there for all nights because my husband was admitted to hospital. Therefore cannot review all aspects of hotel. Wi-Fi - I failed to obtain correct password - again due to being overwhelmed with heath problems.
