I’d stayed at the Gran Luca previously, and I was happy enough with my stay to want to come back. Unlike on my last visit, I got to use the gym and have breakfast, so my review is only of this. Gym - just about okay if having a workout of any sort is really important! But: - The gym is kind of hidden behind curtains with a 'private' sign in front - It's in the eaves of the hotel and there's no aircon or ventilation, so it was uncomfortably hot and stuffy in there - There's no treadmill - Ceiling height is restricted in places (I smacked my head on a beam 3 or 4 times) and it's a small room in which they've packed as much as possible, so it's a bit of a logistical challenge. No room for more than one person - The weights are old, rusty and stiff. It takes forever switching from one exercise to another Breakfast was okay but it was mostly a processed, long shelf life affair. Yoghurt was bizarrely dispensed from a machine. Come to think of it, so was almost everything including the boiled eggs!

The hotel Gran Duca is very well situated neat the port area of Livorno. The famous (but unusual) Quattro Mori statue is right outside. Our room faced the harbour with a great view and had a spa bath. The bathroom was enormous and the room was bright, spacious and elegantly appointed. Everything was spotless. I can only guess from the comments of others that rooms vary in size and standard. There was muted traffic noise despite the double glazing and shutters from the busy road nearby. The mattress was also rather firm for comfort otherwise I would have given the hotel an excellent rating. There were multiple channels on the TV and he Wifi was good. the aircon was quiet and the safe was large enough for a laptop. The breakfast was limited but OK with boiled eggs being the only hot food. There are several good seafood restaurants nearby (try the L'Andara) and plenty of bars, quick bites and pizza places on the Via Grande. Livorno doesn't have a lot for tourists to see and do, but a walk around the "Venice" area and "new fortress" park is pleasant.

I have stayed 2 nights, and altough the personell is nice, the location si good ( centre town, on the port, an old building) and the parking has enough places, everything else is far away from what you would expect from a 4 stars hotel: the room is very small, the furniture looks old and outdated, not vintage, the bathroom is very small, but is the best looking part from the room. At night is very much noise from the cars. The breakfast is poor and very little options. All in all I wouldn't reccomend it only if you really want to stay in the centre of town. Many 3 stars hotels look better and provide better services. If it would have been a 3 star hotel I would have given an average score.

A very well appointed hotel right on the dock-front, and well located for all the sights in Livorno. The restaurant is expensive and there are much better options very locally. The rooms are well furnished though the beds are a bit hard and the preoccupation with the infamous bolster still exists here. No coffee facilities in basic rooms. Free wifi with good coverage even on the top floor. Breakfast fine.

The Gran Duca hotel was very comfortable. The rooms were spotlessly clean and the staff at the hotel were very friendly and went out of their way to attend to our needs. The breakfast was great and plentiful and we had great views of the port from our balcony. Just a short walk to the Port, shops, cafes and restaurants. I would definitely stay here again and recommend this hotel to my friends.

While the hotel is small and a little dated - your not paying to stay at the Ritz. The rooms are spotless and I must say that the reception staff went out of their way to assist me, especially as it was late in the day I another hotel had overbook and I was forced to go some where else. In the end I was not disappointed. Value for money.

Overnight stay when visiting Livorno. Gran Duca is around 2km from the train station. It's a nice walk if you enjoy walking, or a five minute taxi ride. Good location overlooking the port, and great views from my room. The hotel is a little old-fashioned, but it's clean and reasonably priced, and the staff were friendly and polite. Wifi was good. I didn't eat in the restaurant. Nothing negative to report.

Went to Livorno nd Pisa, stayed at hotel with family, the staff is really good and breakfast is nice......, we got spacious room. Hotel staff is very cooperative......Stay went very well..... enjoyed. Recommended for families as the hotel can upgrade your room without any charge......

Pros- Clean Good size room Good location Cons- Upon arrival the receptionist was not very warm and did not even welcome us. Simple amenities such as iron or information pack about the hotel including the number for reception were not available in the room. Plus the safe box was not working and one of the windows did not close properly. Breakfast was very disappointing, very poor selection and basic quality for a 4 star hotel. Don't be fooled by the swimming pool and gym facilities stated in description, the swimming pool is extremely small and closed unless someone goes and opens it but it will cost you 10€ per person! The gym which we were keen to use consisted of one bicycle. No plug adapter available for those who forget them. Upon departure, the lady did not ask how was our stay, simply asked for us to pay our city tax and that was that.

We stayed here for a quick two day stopover on a business trip. The hotel is average but the rooms have seen better days. The room I initially booked was not good so I upgraded thinking it would improve, but it did not. You could not turn off the radiators and if you opened the windows, the early morning road traffic noise was very loud. For the same money (at the time) you could book a 4 star hotel in the same town which had a lot better reviews, but I did not book accommodation before the trip. I would shop around before settling on this hotel.
