I can’t believe more people aren’t commenting on the state of the beach. It’s all rocks and totally unusable. The pictures on the Honua kai website are of how the beach used to look years ago. Every day we had to drive to another beach about 15 mins up the highway. If I would have known this, we would have stayed somewhere else. I brought teenagers and they were completely bored with the pool, it is definitely for toddlers.
We stayed in a first floor 2 bedroom/2 bath condo. Our group included a 19 month toddler, his parents and grandparents. Ideal arrangement for privacy with the bedrooms separated by the living areas. The kitchen had everything we needed for a 2 week stay. Beach chairs, toys, chill bag and umbrellas were provided. They also supplied a high chair and booster. Play pen was available if needed. Television in both bedrooms and living area. HBO included. The AC was extremely efficient. The doors to the lanai opened to green space, perfect for kicking the ball to the little one. Our grand baby found the koi pond and waterfalls fascinating. Walkways to pools easily navigated. Beach towels were always available. And the pools! That was the main attraction. We spent a significant amount of time in each one. Ideal for families with young children. There is an adults only pool for relaxing quiet time. If you are looking for prime beach/snorkeling, this is not the resort for you. Duke's is an adequate restaurant that serves breakfast, lunch, dinner. There is a Whaler General Store on site. Poolside drink and food service is available. A wonderful relaxed friendly atmosphere. Underground parking as well as valet service. The property and condo were immaculate, the pools clean and perfectly maintained. Lush vegetation. Highly recommend for family vacations.
The resort and room were absolutely beautiful. The room is fully equipped with everything you need (except a pizza cutter). AC worked well, water pressure and temperature perfect, bed was super comfy, no noises from outside hallway even though we were fairly close to the elevator, appliances all worked, everything is spotless throughout the resort and the mountain view was very pretty with beautiful rainbows everyday. When we arrived, we weren't sure exactly where to go and ended up at the wrong tower. There should be better signage for arriving guests. We never had an issue with parking. The only reasons I didn't give this resort a 5* was (1) Construction of the new condos being built below us. We couldn't enjoy our lanai due to the constant noise/beeping of construction trucks. (2) Too many children for us. I realize it's a family resort and would just look for an adult only resort next time. (3) The beach, or lack of, is very disappointing. If our children were still small, I would definitely recommend and stay here.
We just returned from our week long Maui vacation and we stayed in this beautiful two bedroom, two bath condo. This condo's location is perfect! It is right in front of ocean, close to grocery stores, restaurants, shopping area. There are also pools and bbq area outside. It is hotel-like condo with 5 star services! The owner has tastefully decorated the unit (nice and mostly new furnitures, wall decorations, new kitchen ware and etc.), plus the view from each room, makes this place a home in paradise! I highly recommend this place.
I liked this resort a lot. The grounds are beautiful, the pools and amenities are plentiful, the location is good and I love the fact that Duke’s is on site. The only complaint I have is the condo building in particular is quite dirty on the outside, including the decks. I wish they would pay more attention to keeping up the appearance as it’s otherwise a nice property.
This was our second time stay6at this resort. We loved it the first time and experienced the same the second time and will return again. Rooms are clean and well appointed. Quiet pool is great to get away from the family areas. Having Duke's onsite is a big plus. Staff are very friendly and accommodating.
We stayed in a studio suite, which was pretty big already. It was amazing, and really clean. Theres two big pools, a slide, waterfalls, hot tubs, and a lazy river that almost goes all the way around but not really. Have to buy your own floats. It was the best. I really recommend you stay! If you do, I don't even have to wish you have a good vacation, because it probably is already guaranteed. Really, trust me on this. It was good. It was sorta like Aulani from Oahu, but without the Disney themes.
We stayed in the Hokulani tour room 629. We were thrilled to have a three bedroom condo with 2 king beds and 2 Queens. The condo was super clean when we arrived and the view - incredible! They will valet your car for free and bring up all your Costco groceries and luggage! truly a fantastic feature after a long day of travel. Also a really nice feature was that there was coffee, paper towel, toilet paper, washing machine pods, kitchen soap - all stocked so you don’t have to run out and get that!! Seems obvious but very convenient and not always available in an Airbnb. The pool is shallow and warm. There are other pools with a slide and lazy river. Duke’s is right on the property. The beach however is rocky and full of coral. Not sure if this is the case every where in Maui. So get your snorkelling mask at Costco first thing. Then you can avoid the rocks in the ocean and enjoy the aquarium views right at your doorstep. Lastly, this place is far north - so you are about 50 minute drive from the beginning of the road to Hana, the beginning of The road to Haleakalā, anything in Wailea, etc., worth considering if you’re already dreading the long drives to these places.
I should say "adult family" getaway for us. That said, there were lots of children at the resort, but not so many that we were troubled. Accommodations (#101 Konea) were great, large, fully equipped, great lanai area with grill on patio (great that we didn't have to use the community grills), felt like you were at home but with the ocean out front. Resort had so many amenities to take part in. The beach directly in front of the resort has had a lot of erosion, but beach just a minute to the south was great. Lots of different pools, dukes right on sight for cocktails/food, fast valet, and overall very friendly staff. Would definitely stay again - Rented through Maui Resort Rentals and not the resort directly so can't speak to the difference.
We stayed at Honua Kai in Konea 106 and Konea 102 over Spring Break and enjoyed the spacious, clean, perfectly located ground floor units. The location was perfect -- easy to pop over the pool, the waterslide, Duke's, etc., while going back and forth during the day. The owner and property manager are both super responsive and easy to work with, and the property manager checked on us several times during our stay. All in all, I'd highly recommend. Beautiful resort, clean properties in a fantastic location!!
