First we want to start by saying, we normally don't do reviews so it takes a little extra for us to say something.
After a pleasant check-in process, we walked in the unit. Overall, it was a bit smaller than we expected but the size was adequate for what we needed - so no issues there. Now for the part that ruined it for us. Over a period of 16 hours, we found a total of at least 10 cockroaches around the unit. At first, it was just a couple here and there on the walls/floors, but the longer the stay went on, the more we noticed. They started popping up everywhere, in shower, on the couch, in the bed, all the places you would hope not to find them. I am pregnant, so the last thing I wanted to do was stay at a place that made me even more uncomfortable. We finally made the decision to call the property manager and see what could be done about this. We obviously wanted to be out of there ASAP. Our stay was only to be for 3 nights, and after two nights, we just couldn't be there any longer. The first response we got was - they would just come spray for bugs. Well for obvious reasons being pregnant, I didn't want to stay at a place with a bunch of chemicals sprayed everywhere. We informed the office manager at AvantStay we would be leaving regardless. After waiting for a manager to call back, they replied via text we'd be entitled to compensation. After such a bad experience, we were hoping to just get a refund in full and we would move on without leaving a bad review, potentially effecting future business with the property. AvantStay said they would reply back by the "end of the day". The problem was, we were essentially stranded without knowing where we would stay that night, waiting for a resolution. We eventually just checked in to a local hotel. We finally got a call back after 7:30 pm, and were told there would be no full refund, rather a $200 credit for a future AvantStay property. For obvious reasons, we wouldn't ever be using a credit. They once again said they would call back after speaking to the leadership team. I received my final call from them at the airport waiting to go home, saying we'd get a refund for the final night only. Overall, the timeliness, the lack of regard for our situation, and decision to not properly account for cockroaches in a property was HIGHLY disappointing. We tried our best to not let it affect our vacation, but it definitely did. BEWARE before booking this may happen to you. We won't be staying here again.
