Grand Park Kunming4.5 out of 5.0

The Grand Park is situated in a downtown area close to Green Lake Park. It is well managed and all staff were helpful and courteous. Our stay was over 3 nights and we found our 10th floor room spacious and adequately equipped but probably needed new carpeting. For our needs as private guided tourists using China Odyssey Tours, its parking area and foyer provided perfect access to our driver and wonderful guide Vivian for outside excursions. Shopping areas and food outlets surround the area and Green Lake park is a 5 minute stroll away. All said a pleasant 3 days.
Loved the location - very close to Green Lake Park (perfect spot for a morning jog or evening group dancing session) and a short walk from the airport bus terminal. The breakfast was very good. At check-in they gave each of us a free gift in the form of an "Ethnic Minorities of China" doll. The "ethnic minority" represented by my doll was Han Chinese (comprising well over 90% of the country's population). No major complaints about the hotel, would stay here again the next time I'm in Kunming!
I was only there for one night, so I can't say much about service. But the room was very comfortable. It was more a four star hotel than five. the location was excellent, ,walking distance from Green Lake, Yunan Library, etc. Service at the reception for check out was a bit slow. Doormen were friendly.
This hotel is in a great location just a few minutes walk from the Green Lake and with lots of shops and restaurants nearby. The room was spacious with a good bathroom, our bed was super comfortable, the WiFi was good and there were several very helpful English speaking staff. The only negative was that we couldn't control the air conditioning - it just seemed to pump out hot air. The hotel is not 5 star by Western standards but this is reflected in the room rate which is very reasonable.
This hotel is in a great location, just a quick walk to Green Lake Park, which makes it all worth while. The park is fabulous, but that is for another review. The hotel is more than adequate but definitely not a 5 star lodging. The room was clean and comfortable and breakfast had lots of options. While not what I consider to be a luxury hotel it was acceptable.
We stayed at the crystal level of this hotel for more than a week discontinuously during our recent visits to Kunming. Main reasons for booking this hotel are: 1) the prime location in town. 2) Other GP hotels we stayed were pleasant. Overall the experience was acceptable. It locates at very good location, 5 minutes’ walk to the Green Lake Park, Walmart, flower and bird market and transportation stops are all within 20 minutes walking distance. Plenty of local restaurants around .The hotel itself is quite dated but rooms redecorated to a rather comfortable level. We stayed at level 17 and 18, both rooms we had were adequate. Only two issues we had were the noise downstairs (especially bar/restaurant attached to the hotel played loud music until early morning) and room temperature (no aircon, the only way to keep cool was to keep windows open). What let this hotel down is lack of service—booked at the official website and both time have been told there is no record in the system. (It seemed Chinese travel agents actually have better price packages) Check in and check out were lack of efficiency not very friendly. The crystal lounge had barely nothing (tried to make a cup of coffee and coffee machine required service then milk had to be fetched from the lobby bar, we walked to the Starbucks at the back street instead) Really not sure the purpose of having such a large empty space. Room cleaning was quick, maybe too quick--dropped a jersey to be dry cleaned later morning, it came back early that afternoon with the same dried food mark in the front. Breakfast was mostly cater for Chinese groups and conference attendees, service was not exist there, no greeting, no seating arrangement and if some food ran out, it went out and service people there only could state the fact for guests. The most friendly face is the young doorman who was smiley and helpful all the time. It’s a hotel got potential but in reality it’s really the location speaks for itself. And the Singapore headquarter needs either to improve commnucation ans training or just to tune down their promotions a little bit on the official website, because it’s not the same as they advertised.
Hotel is located just a few minutes walk from the green lake and military academy museum. Great location but in a quiet neighbourhood. About 10-12 mins walk to the nearest subway PanJiaWan. Confusing to navigate if you didn't have a map. Breakfast was sumptuous and had a good spread but not really to my liking. Might appeal to more Asian palates as they had almost everything for Chinese diners. Staff were cordial but curt, only responding to queries but not making any efforts to personalizing the experience. I would say this is a typical business hotel for short stays in Kunming. Would recommend if you needed a short stay in a good location.
Disappointed in several areas. It is rated as a 5 star by Agoda so I booked expecting a very nice hotel. First problem was they shut off the air conditioning. I was unable to sleep all night because it was to warm for me. The rooms also are not near a 5 star hotel. It's an old old property. My room was long and narrow. It had a sofa against one wall then about 6' in frompn of the sofa is a dresser/desk and the back side of the television pointing at the bed. So needless to say it was not a pleasant place to sit and relax. The breakfast was ok. The staff was excellent, however the place is more a 3 star than a 5 star. So far the nicest hotel in central Kunming has been the Crown Plaza. It also a bit cheaper than the Grand Park hotel.
We stayed here for four nights August of this year (2017). The rooms were very clean and nice, good air conditioning and Wifi was good. The rooms were very inexpensive. The breakfast was quite expensive relative to what you can get out in the city. The buffet is HUGE but it was way more than the average person needs. They also charged us for a hand towel when one had a little coffee stain on it. Overall it was a good place to stay, very reasonable, and centrally located.
This hotel was the best please I stay in China. The habitation very good. The people that assist me very kind. And the food at good level. Have a good place to work in a comfortable place with good view of the city. It’s location in the center of Kunming is very useful to go everywhere.
