The size of the room is quite big. The room is well maintained. Stayed at the main wing, and stayed there for about 3 nights, and the experience was good. Breakfast at the hotel is good too. Centrally located in the city, and close proximity to the riverside walk. The shopping-lovers will get PARKSON inside. The only thing is the management should clean the glasses for a clear view of the River from the rooms.
The room is well maintained. Stayed at the main wing, and they have a new wing getting ready soon. Excellent services. Stayed there for about 5 nights, and the experience was good. Breakfast at the hotel is good too. They have the local favourites for breakfast especially their Laksa Sarawak. Don't have to really go out and get your tastebuds satisfied. Decently priced packages offered. Clean and well maintained swimming pool with a nice gym overlooking the riverside Kuching. Centrally located in the city, and close proximity to the riverside walk and the sampan jetty to the malay settlement where you get your local "Kek Lapis Sarawak" favourite. Within walking distance to local bars, street food, restaurants and other attractions. Also nearby the famous "Top Spot" where you can get local fresh seafood at an affordable price. Don't forget to order some "Manik Chai" and "Bidin Belachan" vegs! Awesome with fresh seafood.
This review should be read with the understanding that I didn’t pay a cent (except the 10 MYR tourist tax) as we were a Malaysia Air canceled flight accommodated here. Doorman, hotel staff and restaurant staff are all kind and friendly, a nice place to be. Well located. Quiet rooms, great pillows and clean linen, very good. I was in room 504 and first impression was worn carpet and drab interior, I understand there are renovations currently happening so it will improve the quality soon. Newspapers provided daily. Breakfast selection was vast, quality/freshness on some items such as bacon and eggs could be improved or made-to-order. Dinner was good, my waitress was lovely and even when the kitchen didn’t have the mea I wanted was very good in helping. We were never told upon check in that there was a pool, or gym, sadly missed this. I got an unnecessary 4am wake up call from staff who thought I was flying at 6am when I was flying at noon, wasn’t happy considering they had these details. Bathrooms need a serious overhaul, poor finishing with filthy cut tiles, dirty shower area, toilet layout was unusual. Extractor fan didn’t work/wasn’t installed and was needed. Iron needed cleaned as it stained my shirt. Based on my experience I would give this a 4* rating BUT if I had paid the 500 MYR for this I wouldn’t be so thrilled and perhaps a 3* rating would be more suitable.
We spent 8 nights and 7 days in the Riverside Majestic Hotel. It has probably the best location in town over the Sarawak river with a nice view to the legislative Assembly and the newly opened Golden Anniversary bridge. We had a room in the 17th floor with a free access to the club lounge. There was a huge selection of food on breakfast. We used the room service, too. We would to point out the staff quality - executive club floor check - in, Bell porter, breakfast waiters, room service, concierge.. Congratulations! Housekeeping did a wonderful job..The club lounge staff was extremely helpful. The cooperation with Damai Beach Resort was very efficient. Thank you very much.
This is my 2nd visit to the hotel within 7 months. Upon complaints I was upgrade to the Executive Lounge. The amenities are better like a special Lounge for your free breakfast & afternoon High Tea. Selection of food for breakfast is better at the Cafe Majestic on 1st level. Unfortunately the Sawarak Laksa was pertatic, very bad as compared to Grand Margherita Hotel(sister hotel). For lunch must try it's Ice Gila Aping. It's smooth h yummy but a Wee bit sweet. There's no 24 hours food menu in the room till you ask for it. One power point was not working. Other than that, Grand Margherita Hotel is a better choice if you are a non-smoker. But it's counter staff & frontline staff at entrance provide excellent service. They are very conscientious & alert to help check it checkout customers. Hawker or coffeeshop food are still excellent like Lok Lok (like yong tau foo, nasi lemak ayam goreng, air mata kuching's) & Top Spot Seafood. Teresa Laksa is a no no if not for its sambal. Shopping is also excellent at Haiyen Bird's Nest & Sea Products And Bhd, Jalan Padungan just a walking distance away. It has all the local products like Sarawak white & black pepper powder, seed & roots(a variety of packaging), keropok, tea, sea salt, bird's nest & titbits. Price reasonable. Very friendly lady boss Melissa. Will go back to buy again in my next trip. Taxi fare from or to Airport is MR30 one way. Only problem there is limited taxi. You can only find them at hotels.
Had a great stay in Kuching. Located next to the Cat Status (roundabout) and in front of it has a daily night market where you can buy local stuff.when we wanted to check in, they requested us to go up to 17th floor. Then was told that there was going to be a party and their entourage's process will take some time. They gave us refreshments before we enter our room
Stayed 2 nights on a business trip. Superior room. Cons 1. Wifi didn't work well in my room. Was ridiculously slow. 2. Hot water in the bathroom was hot enough 3. No electrical outlets by the bed. Nearest was by the desk and the hotel had to give me an extension cable to use so that i could charge my phone by the bed. 4. Air con control button were all messed up. 5. Some of the control buttons for the lights didn't work right. 6. Food was not great for the room price. Summary: The bedroom was old and rundown. Pros: 1. Friendly and helpful staff. 2. Clean
The pros - hotel is well located on the river front; its a short walk to the centre of the old town (e.g., the old court house) as well as the Padungan Rd where there are many eateries and old shops. The cons - driveway entrance is rather limited and congested for pick ups. The 1st floor cafe for breakfast is rather small for the morning crowd, with a low ceiling hence noisy too. The room is well laid out; aircond worked well. But the wall socket for the water boiler didn't work due to faulty internal wiring and so I had to share one other socket with the fridge; the maintenance man came, but he didn't repair it throughout the 4-day stay. The safe didn't work. The worse aspect of the room is its toilet. When it is flushed the water pipe vibration travels far through the wall. This toilet doesn't have a water closet for a soft flush. It is rather like many public toilets. In the morning, over an hr, you can hear this noise from the neighbouring rooms + the three rooms above. The best part - concierge staff and doormen are very polite. But its hard to recommend any room for selection.
I had a windowless room on an upper floor. A/C worked well (needed to) Plenty of hot water for shower. Room was very quiet, which I liked. In the morning I was out the front door and off for a brisk walk along the riverfront. Out for activities during the day. Happy hours nearby and so were the restaurants I'd read about Chong Choon for Laksa and Topspot for seafood. Could have stayed longer but more to see and more to do.
Lovely view of the river and near to all amenities. Stayed here once awhile ago, still a lovely place to put up. You will enjoy a nice walk to the shops on the right and on the left follow the river in
