We recently checked into the new Astana Wing which is a standalone building connected to the Riverside Majestic by a foot bridge on the 6th and 5th floor of the two hotels respectively. The rooms in the Astana Wing offer a very good view over Kuching City, especially the side directly facing the river and main bazaar. Internet, water pressure and air con all worked well. The beds and bed linen are very comfortable and offer a good night sleep. Sound proofing from the windows could be better as traffic noise from the busy street below filters through to the room. Unfortunately, none of the restaurants and bars were open, and we had to go to the old Riverside Wing for breakfast. Service from the front desk was hit and miss with the staff being very friendly but not necessarily efficient in their work. The hotel also needs to catch up in overall cleaning and pest control following the construction phase. Once all the restaurants and facilities are open it could be a very nice 4 star hotel.
Stayed 3 nights from 22 Feb room 1207 in the old wing. Old wing was officiated in the 1990s so the decor reflects this. Carpet musty needs a good clean. Room spacious with king-sized bed and super cold fridge. Nice view. Breakfast was the usual hotel fare nothing spectacular. Hotel pool dismal - no huge umbrella for the deck chairs. Wi-Fi unreliable. Hotel is located above Riverside shopping arcade and hotel is walking distance to many eating places. For example, Top Spot is less than 300 metres walk away.
Stay at the new astana wing for 2 nights. Room is spacious and modern design. It was a pleasant stay though the service could still be improved. Plus: 1. Room is spacious, clean and modern 2. The river view is worth the extra $$ 3. The rain shower in the bathroom. Minus: 1. the matress in on the firm side 2. finishing of the construction in the room a bit messy. 3. service was professional but a bit lack of smile and warmth. Overall i would not hestitate to come back again.
The rooms located in the newly opened Astana Wing are beautifully laid out and modern. I was fortunate to have checked-in in what I would say the room with the best view of Kuching. Awesome views of the River, Dun, Fort Margherita, waterfront as far as the eye can see. Attention to layout of room with raised floor to ceiling height, selection of bed and bath linen, great complimentary in house WIFI, great service at front of house made my stay memorable.
In dire need of a new look and some sort of refurbishment. Poor WiFi connectivity. No laundry bags and laundry services. The toilet was rundown. Residue deposits were seen around the shower head. Reasonably priced hotel otherwise. Good location to 7 Eleven, McDonald and the main attraction, which is the river.
The picture we were shown during booking was of the new wing, so it was a bit disappointing to get a room in the older wing, although we did get the room at a discount, so we can’t really complain. Decor was a little dated, but everything was functional and comfortable. There are only two plugpoints in the room that are usable, which was slightly inconvenient. The rest of the plugpoints for the lights and other appliances were rounded and we could not use them without an adapter. On the first night, the water was lukewarm, which was odd. The next night though, the water was fine.
Stayed one night. Not bad for old hotel, rooms was ok. All functioning except a bid blood stain on my comforter which I just ignored. Lol... breakfas was not like last time, lots of things we're missing from the counters, compared to 5 years ago (last time I stayed here)... thanks to Mr. Amose and Mr. Abul. But the most bad things i've experienced this time is very noisy next door neighbour which their laughing, talking and stomping loudly from midnight until morning @ 5.30am when I called the operator to do something bout the disturbance..
Friendly staff, clean rooms , buffet dinner, buffet lunch, hi tea & breakfast worth your money. Within the same building you can go shopping, bowl or go for the Cineplex. Money changer is located at the ground floor . Fronting the hotel just across the road, (well known as kuching waterfront) you can see the famous sarawak river and pay RM1.00 @US0.30cents for a 3~5 minutes sampan/boat ride crossing the sarawak river.(one way) on the other side of the river you can find the famous kek sarawak (sarawak cakes) or sit down for a coffee or noodles at the food stalls are available. Just walk at the kuching waterfront sometimes you may find a live band performing especially during the weekend. Street busking & exhibitions are common. You can try our new bridge (Darul Hana bridge) -S-shape, Crossing the Sarawak river which is 335meter long. A police booth is also located at the waterfront apart from a private security and a very safe place for family. KFC is located within the hotel building, Pizza Hut just a walking distance ; same to Sea food/foods outlets centre just behind the hotel.
The Riverside Majestic has all you need, very well located. We enjoyed our stay and I went to Bako National Park to do a short trek. Kuching is on a river and it is a delight to dine at night. A short flight from Penang and then we went onto Pontianak.
Had a great stay with my friends in a non-smoking room on level 12. We had a comfortable sleep and enjoyed their facilities. Their décor might be a bit dated but it didn't bother us. Staff is friendly, helpful and initiative. Gym was alright, had your basic equipment like treadmill and weights. We also enjoyed the use of the pool. Location is superb. Right in between many walking distance of things like Top Spot Food Court, Kuching Waterfront, a couple of malls, etc. We had the International Buffet Lunch at their café cause the prices are really affordable. Not the widest selection but it's pretty alright for the price you pay. Love their local dishes. Will return to stay here again cause of location.
