For an honest review, let me begin with the positives... This property is beautifully situated on Poipu Beach, one of the best beaches in all of Hawaii. The two bedroom condo is clean and nicely appointed. The kitchen is large with seating for eight. The master is comfortable, the bathtub huge but the shower is very tiny! The second bedroom is spacious with a king size bed and pull out sofa. The exterior grounds are very nicely kept and clean and there are grills for use by guests. There is a nice bar with limited food items pool side. The pool is nice but a bit on the small side for the number of guests on property but the beach is great. Now for the "not so" positives... We feel completely mislead! We booked a two bedroom ocean view villa months in advance at an upgraded price and we have a view of a bush and a parking lot!!! (See picture). We were given the option of moving one floor higher which if you look past the parking lot, through the power lines and over a rooftop you can get a slight glimpse of the ocean in the distance. "Ocean View". We travel frequently, in fact work in the travel industry and have stayed many places and price ranges and I don't think I have ever been as disappointed as I am right now. Not because the property lacks anything to speak of, but because I feel like we got the bate and switch and that Marriott knowingly and intentionally misrepresented their product. (See other negative reviews, this is sadly a common issue) We have been longtime Marriott Rewards members, loyal customers and have always enjoyed our stays. At some point during our visit we will walk into the sales presentation, (which we were actually considering), and have to say No Thank you. Unfortunately, I feel that the trust has been broken and honor and integrity lacking. (Something I have not felt before). Marriott has always been a great company with a good product but there are other great companies out there as well. I will choose to vote with my dollar and look elsewhere from this point forward. Closing words of wisdom, this is a timeshare property, not a hotel. The rooms that are for "rent" are not the beautiful "ocean views" that you are spending thousands of dollars and traveling half way around the world for. The rooms for "rent" are the least desirable on property... the ones that owners will not stay in. Marriott, you lost a sale by being misleading and just not being honest. What else are you hiding???? Sincerely, a very disappointed customer
What a fantastic place! Part of going on vacation with teenagers is to consider space and facilities when selecting accommodations. The 2 bedroom villa gave us a spacious kitchen living room and separate baths. The location is just simply the best. The beach is right out front with surfing on one side snorkeling on the other. A silly thing I was impressed with was the outdoor cooking facilities. There must be one grill for every 3 units. Marriott cleans them every day (spotless ). If you don't cook out then you are missing some fun times drinking with your neighbors.
The Waiohai is a great family spot. The two bedroom suites have an ample kitchen and dining area which make it easy to prepare meals in and not spend lots of $$$ dining out every meal. The on-property grills are very well maintained and are another great option for cooking meals. The big family pool is active and noisy but perfect if you have children. Now that the youngest in my family are teenagers I tend to go the "quiet" pool or the beach. The property is low on frills. It is not a hotel. It is a timeshare property. But, it is very well maintained. The in-unit washer and dryer also make it great for families.
We enjoy coming here with our family. This spot is perfect for families. It is situated on a small sandy cove. The cove is a nice place to swim and snorkel. There is usually a seal or two basking in the sun and sometimes a turtle. There is surfing if you want to go out past the reef. The Marriott provides pools for children and a "quiet" pool. There are lovely gardens and waterfalls. There are also large grass areas. There is a small but adequate exercise room. There are several sets of BBQ's for your use. There is a small bar up close to the beach that serves good, casual food and drinks. There is a play area specifically for children but is in full sun and gets very hot. Poipu had more sun that the other side of the island and the beach is perfect for our family. We stay in the two bedroom units. We prefer a ground floor room so we can walk out into the gardens. We also prefer to stay toward the rear of the property as it is quieter. This visit we did more cooking but we also took advantage of the good restaurants nearby. The Marriott has a very small "market" but you will need to drive a few miles to get to a full grocery store. There is a fun, open air shuttle you can take up and down the shops and restaurants in the Poipu area. I'd do, however, recommend you rent a car. All the rooms are air conditioned. The units are well maintained and were refurbished within the last few years.
My family of 5 loves this resort! We stayed here for the first 2 days and then went to another condo. We missed the Marriott 2bd room villa so much we actually left our other condo and checked back in to the Marriott for 5 more days. Worth every dollar!
We had the best time with our sweet granddaughter because of the wonderfully mild waves at the Waiohai beach plus taking her to babybeach at Brennecke's. We've had nothing but the best vacations at the Waiohai since we've been coming here since 2004. Kauai is our favorite spot in the world. If you want to experience what Hawaii was like many years ago, come visit this Magical place
This is our favorite Marriott Vacation Club property. It is a low rise-3 to 4 floors-and is beautifully landscape. The pools are good, although usually full of screaming kids as you might expect at a family resort. The access to the beach is easy and the beach is beautiful, but somewhat rocky. Kauai is a wonderful island and the Waiohai is a great home base.
The grounds are wonderful to enjoy for a morning walk. It is a main place for groups to stay so early morning there are a lot of buses in the parking lot and people gathered for their daily tours. The studio rooms are nice but small for 4 people. There are 2 restaurants, a morning buffet breakfast and a morning coffee/donuts cafe which are both expensive. The morning feeding of the Koi fish is a great treat. The pool is huge and there are 5 separate hot tubs. It has a small beach but not great for snorkeling. Its a good venue for weddings.
We were there with wife's cousin and his wife, who had been there before. Great room(s), and wonderful location. Close to great eating places and the beach and short drive to mountains. We went to the west toward the high and rugged cliffs and caught Capt. Andy's tour boat to the west side of the Island. Absolutely beautiful!! Great cruise and while some got seasick it was worth it to see the rugged coastline. Also an easy drive to the North shore.
We have been coming to this resort since it opened 12+ years ago. It is a great family resort, daily activities for the entire family, a relaxation pool, a very large family pool with an adjacent children's pool, another children's pool by the ocean so something for everyone. Direct private beach access from the resort. Units are updated, spacious as very comfortable for a weeks stay with family. The grounds are beautiful and it is right on Poipou Beach. What set this resort apart from the rest was the incredible staff! Every single staff member at all times greeted us with an ALOHA and went out if their way to be accommodating. Even the maintenance man that came to repair the dishwasher left individually wrapped chocolate hammers for the kiddos when he left. First class service!
