I spent 2 nights at this hotel after coming back from Bhutan. The location of the hotel which is in the heart of Thamel is the big plus point of the hotel. The hotel facilities are a bit dated, but with the location, price I paid & decent buffet breakfast Avataar is certainly worth it. I would like to specially thank to the front desk staff - Binaya, who is always very helpful, resourceful & welcoming.
After booking the air ticket for Kathmandu, I was searching for a good budget hotel there. At last zeroed in on Hotel Avataar, Thamel after reading its review which were all positive. On reaching there I was totally not disappointed. I was received with warmth by the front desk manned by Sumit. The room was road facing or more appropriately street facing. It was a delux room but not much spacious but cosy. Both room and bathroom were neat and clean. In bathroom hot water running always and toiletries were of decent quality. Two water bottles of one litre each was provided every day. Room cleaning was done every day. One locker was also there. Only thing lacking was non availability of tea maker in the room which was badly needed at times. It was gathered that tea maker is available only in studio rooms/suites. Another negative was very slow speed of wi fi which they provide for free. It stops in the middle of surfing. On enquiry, the same trite explanation - it is under repair. Barring this everything was fine. The buffet breakfast place is on the top sixth floor - both open and covered, choice is yours. Breakfast spread was sumptuous with changing menu every day. The staff there always insist on tasting their new items. How sweet. The hotel has made view point which is at top and take a 360 degree view of the city. It is adorned with pretty flowers. You can also have tea/ breakfast/lunch there . Really a memorable place to stay. Would certainly like repeat in future if happen to visit Kathmandu.
After spending a few days in Kathmandu, you will as I did, realise that this hotel is a little oasis of tranquility. Z street is very quiet, yet really close to all the action of Thamel and Durbar square. The hot water works, the rooms are very well cleaned, the toilet flushes, the right amount of toiletries are provided, the aircon and fridge work properly, and the hotel is so secure, that I forgot to lock both my room door and room safe one night and nothing happened because all floor hallways are monitored by CCTV round the clock. These may be things that sound really basic and taken for granted, but after having spent a few days in Kathmandu, and staying 1 night in a supposedly 3 star hotel Vaishali (which was absolute crap BTW) I came running back to Avataar realising the value of these basics. Not to say that this is a no frills hotel, the room is very tastefully decorated, the furnishings are of very high quality, overall very comfortable for extended stay. This hotel actually cares!
The Avataar Hotel is in the heart of the tourist district of Thamel, Kathmandu. It is an extremely pleasant, quiet hotel amid the tourist hustle and bustle. Everything worked very well from the airport pick-up to the airport drop off: the driver was friendly without being intrusive; the hotel check in was quick, efficient; from the helpful doormen to the attentive bar staff and from the quiet housekeeping staff to the adept catering team - all ensured that my 4-night stay was agreeable. All helped create and preserve a safe, quiet haven. My room was ensuite. The bathroom had a strong shower but no bath, which suited me very well. The bedroom was well equipped with a large bed (queen size? king size?), wardrobe, desk area, chair, TV, plenty of lighting; it also had a kettle, fridge, microwave, and basic cooking items, if one wished to self-cater on a modest scale. I was very happy with the refreshments and meals that the hotel offered. Breakfasts were plentiful and tasty; the menu for evening meals was diverse and, again, tasty. The bar was stocked with a variety of beers/lagers, spirits and wines. All-in-all, I enjoyed my stay in the Avataar hotel. I have given 'only' 4 stars, since it was my first visit to Nepal and have no yardsticks by which to compare it to other, similar hotels in the country; however, the Avataar has given me a clear sense of the good, quiet standards that are available in tourist hotels in Nepal. Well done everyone at the Avataar Hotel, and thank you.
I was recommended by my friend who was staying at this hotel from past few years. I was then told to stay at this hotel which was very nice and excellent service from all the staff. The breakfast and hotel location is best and nearby to all the places and market.

Hi Visited in hotel in June on business. Hotel staff accommodated my requests outside general services. This was well appreciated considering repeated requests. Amazing hospitality completed by quality Regards Greetings from Africa
I stayed 8 days at Avataar Kathmandu Hotel. Staff always very friendly; owner, reception people, housekeeping and driver, all are so positive and you find them always smiling. Rooms are very spacious; my room had a little kitchenette and tea making facilities as well. Housekeeping does a great job! I booked three day trips at the hotel and it was fantastic and flexible, the driver is just super and very reliable and polite. The rooftop restaurant is big, clean, cozy and employees are from the politest i ever met. Food and beverage choice is quite big and prices are better than in most little restaurants outside. Located centrally inThamel district; plenty of food and shopping choices in walking distance. Thank you all for my nice time in Kathmandu.
