Stayed for 3 nights in this big city and certainly found plenty to do. Had a big room on 14th floor with view over the Love river and beyond. Room was spacious with large king size bed. All amenities but, as we have found in Taiwan in general, the mini bar stock is very limited. Plenty of 7/11’s around to stock up on. Housekeeping was good and never seen. Breakfast was excellent. Big number of people at breakfast but always plenty to eat. Eggs any way you like and fresh pure orange juice. Location as ok. We walked virtually everywhere and still easy to get where you want to go on MRT or LRT. Would recommend staying here.
Hotel is just along the Love River, where you can venture out to walk along the riverfront with live music. The hotel room size is average but the aircon is weak, even after asking the staff to come take a look it didnt help. We get complimentary welcome drink and we went up to the sky lounge, the place itself don't look like a lounge, there were too many banquet tables around. The breakfast which is included the choice is not very exciting and the layout of the restaurant make us have to walk very far to get food. The swimming pool which we can see from the restaurant during breakfast is located just next to the road so meaning anyone who walks by can see the guests, not sure if guests will like that.
And I say this because of their internet service. I have told the staff about this for the last 18 months. The Ambassador is now last on the list of hotels that I like in terms of availability. I am here again because other hotels that are better for business, are currently full. And that list includes the Lee’s hotel which has a ho hum location and dated room interiors. The internet is so bad that one cannot make a decent internet, voice only, call. Business application that require a link with a server are constantly disrupted. And are unusable in the evening when everyone is in their rooms and awake. It starts and stops going up to 185kbs. Yes, it’s slower than 3g. The staff used to pass it off as “All of Kaohsiung is this slow” but I don’t think they can do that anymore. (10 or 12 Mbs at 85 Sky tower minimum). If you are not on business and don’t have anyone to contact back home, then the Ambassador is a wonderful place (be prepared to pay for your breakfast before you are seated like you might in a low class all you can eat buffet. ). The staff is wonderful, cheerful and eager to please.
Nice view from room overlooking love river. Good to place for a night stroll or take gondola cruising. Room with proper in room slippers, bathe robe, bathe salt. Room service was fast and gave more than you ask.
The gym is quite impressive for a hotel, but the pool is weird. You must wear a swimming cap to enter which are sold at the hotel. It's also located at street level on the main intersection of the hotel with very little seperating swimmers from the road/street... not the worst thing but just a little odd. Staff were very helpful and spoke great English. Gave recommendations for breakfast etc. Rooms are clean and comfortable, nothing too special and a little old/tired in decor, fittings etc. but still has everything needed. Well located on "the love river" which has some nice bars and cafes along it. The hotel is reasonably well located centrally and so easy to get to around to things worth seeing.
The building itself is old as other travelers have been mentioned. However the service is just like the 5 stars hotel. I stayed here for two night and satisfied with the facilities (pool and gym). The Love river is just besides the hotel. Although the hotel located quite far from the MRT st(at least 10 mins walking distance) but there's a public bicycle station that outside the hotel for you to ride along the river.
First time visit to this fascinating city and it was completely blown away . We got booked into this hotel and i would have to say its excellent! The view of my room is just overlooking the Love River and its a sight to behold specially at night! The room s are comfortable , the food is great really no complaints only superb compliments for this hotel!!
Good location, staff friendly. Hotel is good for business or weekend stay if visiting Kaohsiung. Breakfast was good with western options also. Only let down is that the Internet is a bit erratic which should be better in a hotel of this size.
This is a fairly nice 3.5 star hotel. The staff is friendly as most are in this beautiful country. The laundry service is very fast here. The workout room is small but well equipped. The semi public pool is ok, shallow and on a busy street corner at sidewalk level...next to the side walk Hallway noise, and noise through the door is above average decibels so try not to stay near the elevator. I do have to make a point about the Internet. It's bad. It's slow unless you are the only one in the hotel. I have been complaining to them for 2 years. It's the worst internet I have experienced in Kaohsiung. I'm not an internet engineer so I can't explain it very well. Everything is interrupted. Phone calls, files, videos (low res). For work I frequently need to download files at around 500megs. It is impossible to do this here at the Ambassador hotel. If you brought your own cat5 cable you can plug in to the router at the customer business center near the lobby on the first floor. The reason I stay here is that it seems to be the default place my company will book me into when I'm traveling to Kaohsiung unless I catch them first. I do favor the Lees hotel, especially for the Internet though it's not near the Love River as is the Ambassador. The rooms are clean, there are plenty of outlets (110v) in the rooms, but if you need to be connected for business, be warned. I have tried to make my point with the staff here at the hotel over the last couple of years. But the only improvement that was made was the sign in process. The interruptions still make other hotels in the area better for me. Bear
We have been here the last few days from the UK and I'm very impressed. The hotel is a short taxi ride from the airport - it was around 350 TWD and on this subject taxis are very cheap for short to medium journeys costing around 100 TWD per 2.5km The hotel breakfast is a good spread of western and local options and runs from 6am until 9.30am. Rooms are well presented and have nice firm beds along with good aircon. Location wise nothing is far away - the nearest metro station is a five minute walk and again is very cheap to use. Staff here are great - happy to organise taxis and generally very polite and helpful
