This is not a hotel in the true sense of the word it is more like an apartment in a hotel. You do not stay in a room. The apartment has a small portal,a sitting room,a bedroom a bathroom and a balcony reached through sliding doors from both living- and bed room. The apartment has a complimentary bar, every drink free and replenished regularly,a fireplace,a cd player,a flat screen tv with its own decoder,a clock radio, ample space,a shower(converts into a steam bath!)a bath and 2 basins. The bed is low wide and very comfortable, the linen crisp and clean. I found such luxury only once before in South Africa,at a lodge in the Eastern Cape. The staff friendly and very efficient.Washing is done quickly neat and....also free!!! The food is of a high quality actually fine dining.Fine to such an extent that some of the dishes served were hardly recognisable as those on the menu!(Maybe I am just not a foody).Wine is paired. For this you pay, quite expensive I would say.Tasty, but not worth the hefty price. But everything considered still worth the experience. And to have had the privilege of staying at Ten Bompas was indeed an experience to remember. The garden is well tended to except for the green water in the pool, also to be excused. A hotel to be on the bucket list.
Very classy hotel, modern restaurant with very fusion menu, very nice rooms with fireplace, great service and location, has nice garden and small conference facilities. Definitely recommend for biz travellers or even families, some rooms have balcony and some have access to small courtyard so very quaint and relaxed and quiet
All employees in the hotel are welcoming, try to server you as much as they can. Only suites are available which are spacious, clean with good furniture, toilet and path room are hygienic with Sauna. All suites have extension to balcony. The food being served there is delicious and variable. Checking in and out is fast. As an SPG member I enjoyed staying at this hotel.
My friend and I stayed in this hotel 3 nights, before and after visiting Kruger National Park. We had a spacious suite, amazing bathroom with sauna and balcony. We met with a very friendly staff like Fortune and Pat who offered us a wonderful breakfast. Yogurt with cereal and fruits, scrambled eggs, bean, potatoes, avocado and cocktail juice. Swimming pool is nice and small. Garden is the time to listen to the birds. The area is closed to Hyde Park Corner and many other shops. We enjoyed our stay in Ten Bompas. Thank you all.
With local touches, this boutique property provides an outstanding quite and secure accommodation and outstanding meals. My room/suite was comfortably appointed with furniture, tasteful artwork, a great aroma, real wood fireplace and a balcony. I had breakfast and lunch there and have returned twice to the hotel hoping to be able to have dinner there but alas not in the group plans. Food was very authentic and genuine. Lots of flavours and quantity. When coming back to Joburg, I’ll be booking Ten Bompas!
Following a safari, a friend and I recently stayed in separate suites at Ten Bompas. Each of the rooms is expertly designed and lovely; we arrived to a chilled bottle of bubbly and fruit; and the steam shower was a deeply appreciated amenity following safari. Each evening, staff delivered an amuse bouche courtesy of the hotel chef. We enjoyed a delicious meal at the Winehouse restaurant our first night there. Our following days were filled with guided day trips, which the hotel staff graciously worked with me to coordinate prior to our arrival. We each ordered room service breakfast every morning from a menu with many offerings at very affordable price. Additional evenings were enjoyed on our oversize patio deck; we went to the corner on Jan Smits and purchased nosh from Fournas and wine from the adjacent wine shop...And, we liked relaxing in the gorgeous garden/pool area. The whole feel is much like staying is the guest suite of a private home (which this building was in a former life). The service is friendly and accommodating. This is the kind of place I preferred to stay when I worked in a particular city for extended days, but is equally appropriate for short visit, assuming you understand the geography of Jo'Burg and that you will need to use private transport (which is true for pretty much any place).
Stayed at Ten Bompas twice in the last two years. Beautiful location in the heart of Dunkeld, close to major points of interest in Johannesburg. All suite boutique hotel with greatest attention to detail in every respect. Fantastic restaurant with small but delicious and refined menu. Outstanding wine list. Quiet with a lush garden. Beautiful decor and room design (suites 5 and 9). Most importantly, the service is truly outstanding - friendly, professional, helpful. Easily beats any five star hotel I know.
This hotel has only 10 suites, each one is located in a very special enviroment and great view. One of the great hotels i visited. Great service, the food was very tasty and cost effective. The restaurant on place is one of the best in joburg - very recommended. The only think they should sort out to become a perfect hotel is not to close the kitchen sundays from 3pm. the fact that from sunday 3pm the kitchen its close ruin the great hotel atmosphere and you should fit your schedule around the hotel limitations instead of them to fit to your basic needs. No room service, No restsurant! Till breakfast next day. Enjoy your stay.
We arrived early evening after a 15 hour international flight and delay getting picked up at the airport by separately arranged private transport. The hotel did not have our Starwood's reservation, but found it without delay. They checked us in promptly and escorted us and our luggage to our suite where they gave us a tour of it's amazing features. It was like a home away from home. The suite included a living room with full furnishings, a large bedroom with king size bed, a large master bathroom, a guest bathroom off the living room, and a dual sided fireplace. The heating and cooling was a wall-mounted heat pump with remote control. It worked great. The master bathroom included a clawfooted tub separate shower with steam feature and dual sinks. It was both beautiful and very functional for two people at the same time. The suite also had a private balcony with table and chairs overlooking the garden with entrances from both the living room and bedroom. The hotel is attached to the wonderful Winehouse Restaurant which shares the amazing staff with the hotel. We reviewed the Winehouse separately. The hotel and Winehouse complex is fenced with a security guard. It is located near the business district of Johannesburg. Perhaps not a safe area at night. The hotel and restaurant staff members were amazing. At evening there was a bed turn down service including hot water bottles being placed on both sides of the beds and fabric mats beside the bed on on the floor. This beautiful property and its staff are certainly deserving of a Starwood's affiliation. Kudos to all for making our stay and wonderful visit to Johannesburg! We even took our great Cashan African Tours & Safaris three-day guide and his wife here for our final evening dinner. His/Howard's knowledge and tours were amazing. Those who go to South Africa and skip touring Johannesburg and the surrounding area are missing much of the historical, economic, geological, social, and anti apartheid essence of South Africa. The cradle of humankind is here for touring and experiencing. Many thanks again to the Ten Bompas staff members ?😀🤗
This place is nice enough. The rooms are big and have some uniqueness to them. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The location was good, but do expect to take an Uber to Rosebank (which is close) and anywhere else you want to go. Not sure much is walkable from here unless you really like to walk and are comfortable in South Africa. I hear the restaurant is fine dining and has a great wine selection. They have a jazz band that plays on Sundays. Overall the place is nice, but is getting a bit on the dated side for what the cost is in my opinion.
