Be prepared to hike 45 minutes or more to reach the lodge from where the boat docks. It is worth the climb. The biggest factor hiking to the Lodge is the altitude. Take it slow. Rooms are comfortable. The food was excellent. Staff very friendly and interesting to talk to. Wifi available in the common area which closed around 8 pm.
Wonderful relaxing and friendly place to stay after a long hike exploring the Island. Great service and food. Recommend for two nights at least. Altitude was a bit tough for us coastal dwellers but just take it slow.
This is a beautiful and peaceful place to stay. You need to be in decent shape to hike up to it. They will carry your bags if you let them know in advance. Service was great. Food was good and breakfast and dinner are included. Gabi, the manager, is amazing. Speaks fantastic English and take care if everything and everyone. The rooms are very cold and should have heaters. Internet is not very good. The hotel should tell its guests, however, that half the island is off limits to tourists, and a Korean tourist was raped and killed for going into that area in Jan 2018. I'm scared to think what would have happened if we walked in that area since we knew nothing about this.
We stayed two nights in the Ecolodge La Estancia on the south half of the Island of the Sun in Bolivia. [The north half is closed to tourists]. The accommodations were comfortable, the food was good, and one staff member spoke fine English and seemed to have endless energy for dealing with guest’s needs. The first thing prospective guests should know is that there are no vehicles on the island and that reaching the lodge involves hiking 1.1 miles and climbing up 525 vertical feet from the boat docks. Your luggage will arrive either on your back or via donkey hired separately. The rooms were fairly spartan and lacked heat which made it a bit chilly throughout our visit. At least the blankets and comforters were warm. The only spare outlet we could find was in the bathroom which made charging electronic toys a bit of a challenge. We were told that the hot water was solar so shower in the afternoon. Nevertheless, the next morning there was plenty of hot water so I suspect there is some form of combustion backup. There is wireless internet in the dining room [and nearby guest cottages], but we found the link overloaded by guests and opted instead to tether through a decent 4G signal with our private phones. Dinner and breakfast were nothing fancy. We ate well and enjoyed the local tastes.
In a trip that included Machu Picchu, other Peruvian ruins and Cusco, our time on Isla del Sol was probably the high point and Eco Lodge la Estancia was a huge part of that. We stayed one night - but most of 2 days - and wished we had time for 2 nights. The lodge is a hike from town - but worth it and the lodge will pick up your bags from the port. The rooms are beautifully done, comfortable and with spectacular views across the lake to the mountains. Also, both dinner and breakfast were delicious. But what made this stay was the service. The staff overall are lovely and Gabrielle, who manages day to day, was simply wonderful, always friendly, advising us on hikes to take, telling us about the lodge and island and answering any questions. And, as a gay couple who don’t speak Spanish, travelling in a conservative country, she was absolutely open and welcoming. If I ever come back to Isla del Sol, there is no question where I would stay.
Amazing stay at La Estancia lodge. This lodge is located a couple of kilometres outside of the little town of Yumani, making it quiet and relaxing, but a little walk to get to. It is ideally located to watch the sunrise, with the ability to walk 15 minutes to get to the highest point of the island and enjoy a 360 degrees view and see beautiful sunsets. The hotel is very nicely kept, with very modern individual cabins, all overlooking the water and moon island. Because of the location, expect basic accommodation from a heating/water perspective, but it wasn’t cold and we had hot water. The highlights include the staff, all extremely welcoming, nice and helpful, as well as the food: breakfast was the best we had during our entire trip in Bolivia! Highly recommend this place if going to Sun Island.
We stayed here two nights and so had a full day for exploring the island. Our room was really gorgeous, with a big sitting area as well. The hotel is in a good position just outside the village. The breakfast was perfect - pancakes come as standard! Dinner was limited but quite tasty.
This place is more than spectacular. We stayed at the suite and enjoyed the most beautiful sunset and sunrise. Dinner with fish was superb. I only have compliments for this place. It’s a palace on top of the island.
We stayed here for one night in June and loved it. The little houses at the lodge are comfortable and full of character, but the highlights for us were the beautiful flower-filled gardens and the view over Lake Titicaca and the snow-capped Cordilla Real. There are plenty of walking opportunities around, but it was also tempting just to enjoy the tranquil atmosphere around the lodge. Breakfast and dinner was included and both were delicious and the staff was friendly and helpful. Our only regret is that we had only booked one night. From Yumani port you have to climb a long flight of steep steps before getting on to the path that eventually leads to the lodge. The lodge will send pack animals to Yumani if you need help with your luggage. It’s worth noting that some boats (like ours) drop you off at the southern port on the island (by some ruins) instead of Yumani port. The walk to the lodge is longer but also easier from here.
I spent only one night at EcoLodge La Estancia but I will remember it for some time. Gabriela was there in the main dining lodge when I reached the property after a great hike up from the Inca stairs of the port of Yumani. She was friendly and inviting and there is no better welcome than a long table full of mugs and hot water for tea in front of awesome views of the Lake Titicaca and la Isla de la Luna. I could not wait for dinner and it didn't disappoint, although I wish more of the dishes featured local produce like choclo or chuño. That night there was a 5 hour thunderstorm and we lost power, but being in a place so beautiful it doesn't matter because the water was still hot (solar heat?) and sunrise over the lake fills all the rooms with quiet light. Everyone on staff was friendly. I hope the north end of the island will open soon and the locals can resolve their differences. Thanks to Romina for her understanding when I almost couldn't make it and flexibility with reservation. I would love to return to this place. ***Please note, DO NOT pack heavy bags for your night or two at Ecolodge La Estancia. Little donkeys need to carry your stuff up and it's cruel to pack a heavy suitcase. And bring a light poncho in case it does rain (unlikely). All the rooms/cabins have great views they all face east.
