This hotel is in a convenient location, as we arrived by train from Switzerland and could walk across the road to the hotel. The guy who helped us with the bags was great and this hotel is nice and central making it easy to explore the town by foot. We had a terrible experience when we checked out though. The day before checking out I had purchased 2 Innsbruck Cards from the front desk. The cards themselves are great and I highly recommend them. When I purchased them however the lady asked if I wanted to have the charge added to my room. I said I would prefer to pay cash and the lady accepted my payment of 78 Euro. When we went to check out the same lady said that we had not yet paid for them. I don't know why they don't keep a record of transactions or why they couldn't check video footage to see we had paid for them, but after 5 minutes of arguing they just got very rude with us and assumed we were trying to cheat them out of the money. It left us with a bad experience after having a good time in Innsbruck and we found it extremely unprofessional for them to treat us tis way after it had been their unprofessionalism for not making a record of the transaction. It would deter me from going back here.
My wife and i stayed in this hotel in May 2017 for 2 nights. Very convenient location like just opposite the Innsbruck main train station. A road from the train parking leads straight to the hotel and you dont need to even exit the train station if you dont want to. It is a 100 meter or less walk when you exit the train station. Many eateries near by. Large supermarket inside the train station. The SWAROVSKI MUSEUM bus departs right in front of the station so it is just 2 mins walk from the hotel. The city centre is good 10-15mins walk from the hotel but buses are convenient and easy to get from outside the hotel. I was told that guests with cars could also use the same parking space to park their cars at a fee. We were given rooms by 12.30PM way earlier than the scheduled check in time. The reception staff were helpful and smiling and did their job well. The room was very spacious clean and very comfortable. There was also a separate storage room cum closet to keep luggage and it has hangers and electric kettle and tea and coffee making facilities and decent sized room safe. The bed was very comfortable with good pillow choices. TV with many channels. working desk. The WI-FI was slow and didn't consistently work all the time so if you have some office work then surely you will have some issues. Lighting in the room was good and had electronic curtains. Many charging points in the room as well The bathroom was clean and of decent size. It had good toiletries etc. The only problem was a step when you had to go from the room to the bathroom and that can be an issue for the 1st few times. You are sure to miss the step. The bath area was in a bath tub and the glass separation to keep the water inside the tub while using it didnt do its job at all. It leaked from below and the bathroom floor had water and there was no water outlet on the bathroom floor either so it was messy and uncomfortable at times. The breakfast was good. Choice of Omelette/Pancake/Waffle and other standard European breakfast things like cheese, bread, yogurt, coffee, etc. etc. The taste of the waffle was very bad. Uncooked so would suggest don't order it at all. Overall manageable. The hotel has a bar and restaurant as well for people who want to eat in the hotel. Overall i dont know how hotels are rated in Europe but i doubt whether you can call this a 5 Star hotel. It is a good 4 star hotel at the most. Location is 5 star and thats it. You could choose this hotel to stay here for sure if you are travelling in or out of the city by train but if not you can surely look elsewhere as well.
We were supposed to stay at Grand Hotel Europa in June, however, due to a medical issue we had to postpone our trip from June to August. We had booked several other hotels mostly through hotels.com and the majority of them were non-refundable. But since we had a medical emergency and were only changing the dates to a later date, ALL OF THEM were okay except for Grand Hotel Europa. At first, the customer service rep from hotels.com called them and they said they won't let us change the dates. So we ended up calling the hotel directly ourselves and explained the issue and how we only needed to postpone the dates and were not accepting a full refund. They told us that they would make this change for us however, since we had booked through a third party, they had to call them and make the modifications. But when the customer service reps from hotels.com called them again, they told them they can't do it. So we called them one more time and they told us the same thing all over again. Between us and hotels.com, we must have contacted them 5-6 times and in the end they did not change the dates. Terrible customer service.
This hotel requires major renovation work before it can reclaim its five star status. At present it is more like a three star property with a tired lobby and poor quality fittings in the rooms. We spent five nights at the hotel in May, two of which were in a room with a very poor quality bathroom. The sink was cracked, the bath and sink drains did not work, the shower thermostat was faulty. Upon our complaint and the inability of staff to rectify the problems, we were upgraded to a junior suite for the last few nights of our stay. Although the room was superior and much more spacious, the bed creaked all night, the shower had weak pressure and the thermostat didn't work well. The location of the hotel is very practical as it is close to both the train station and to the centre of town. Front desk staff were gracious and helpful in trying to deal will issues that arose. They were also apologetic and did their best to improve our poor experience with the quality of rooms. However, this does not compensate for the existing standard of accommodation. Innsbruck itself is delightful and definitely worth the visit.
While I wouldn't rate this hotel as five star we were very pleased with our experience here and would definitely stay again. That's just as well as we had moved from another hotel in the city which we did not like at all. Our 4th floor room was spacious and very clean and quiet. Particularly comfortable bed was much appreciated, made with quality linens and sufficient pillows. Breakfast was plentiful and well worth the small extra payment over the room rate. All staff were pleasant and helpful, making us feel very welcome. I agree with other reviewers that the furniture and decoration could do with smartening up and it is this that lets the rating down. However everything was clean and tidy, just not quite what you expect in a top notch place.
Email customer service with the hotel is horrendous. Passive aggressive and requests constantly disregarded. Never again will I book this property. Stay away, unless you like bad behavior. I have made a formal complaint with the company I have made the booking with initially.
Plus: A great restaurant inside An excellent continental breakfast A nice welcome in your room Could be better: Choice of tv channels, too german centric Not perfectly quiet at night... But in the end really good.
Those were days...I think this is the best way to describe this hotel rated 5*. To be honest, I would not give it more than 3*. Lobby is old and leather armchairs very shabby. Small reception, old carpet I had a queen room and it was fine. Bathroom very good with a great shower. Breakfast was decent. Staff friendly and trying to be helpful. Position close to the Train station is perfect and the centre is just 10 minutes walking. Depends on what rate you get, but I would not spend more than 110 euro to stay here.
Typical Euro style hotel. Clean, small rooms and a safe location. Hot in summer, A/C ??? Close to local restaurants. Fair price for rooms. English spoken by friendly staff. Ask about A/C when checking in during summer visits.
This hotel is rather an average place than a 5* hotel, rooms deserve reconstruction. Location was good - walking distance from the centre and right next to the railway station. Our room was quiet as per our request. Serving good breakfasts in a nice hotel restaurant. Parking was changed by €22 per day.
