Grand Hotel Europa5.0 out of 5.0

I have stayed at this hotel several times and was always pleased with the rooms and the service. My wife and I stayed there for our second honeymoon and she said it was her favorite hotel on our trip through Europe.
One wonders how this hotel is able to maintain its five star rating in a tourist oriented country like Austria and how the official text can claim that this was 'one of the most impressive hotels in Central Europe' - it most certainly is not, far from it! The entrance and the lobby are fairly grim, the rooms are out if date and the overall impression is of a fading hotel where not much money has been invested in upgrades for quite some time. The breakfast is decent and the restaurant has very nice decor and rooms. But 5star hotels use cotton napkins, not paper, just as an example. The main problem for visitors is that there doesn't seem to be much of a high end alternative in town so the best option may be to book one of the true 5star mountain hotels nearby, though they will be significantly more expensive, which is the one reason I give the hotel an average rather than a poor rating: the price is of a ok 4star hotel and it just about manages that.
One of the worst hotel I have stayed in my life. Very bad customer service, small rooms even I was staying in a suite with old decoration and AC doesn't cool the room at all. Staff are not helpful at all.
Staff were super nice and helpful and I feel bad for not giving this place more stars. However, the overall feel, decor and amenities were not of five star quality. Water temperature in the shower fluctuated wildly and burnt our two year old ( nothing serious but resulted in some loud screams and a very red back which despite my initial fear settled to normal within minutes. Breakfast and dinner were very nice.
Convenient location and clean room, but does not justify the cost. We paid €189 for room and €24 for parking . The breakfast would have been extra. This is located in a vibrant clean city, but I would save my money if went to city again .
Peaceful hotel with great breakfast including glutein free choices and sparkling wine :) Close to xmas markets and all other places worth visit. Perfect location when arriving with train, only 200 meters walking distance. Lobby bar is nice and their cocktails are done with elegant taste. Rooms are perfect with huge beds. We are gonna be there next time too. 4 1/2 stars out of 5.
Stayed at the Grand Europa for 2 nights in June. LOCATION : While I was researching for a Hotel, I had read about a strip club in the vicinity and was hesitant on this count. There IS a strip club (Lady O) very very close to the Grand Europa - it was shut during our stay - so I cannot comment on its influence on the safety or congeniality of the area. The location - bang opposite the train station - is ideal for those with heavy bags. Be aware though that this is not the charming altstadt neighbourhood with its multitude of dining options and buzz, Once you have reconciled with this, the Grand Europa is a fabulous experience. I must mention that we did get a view of the mountains from our Room no 302. We stayed in a modern room - not the one designed like a log cabin. Our room was quite spacious and well appointed. The bathroom had a shower cubicle with a powerful shower ( and not a shower-cum- tub). Great bed and hence sleep quality. The breakfast room is a really pretty, period kind of room with chandeliers and paintings. The breakfast spread was good and aesthetically presented. We are vegetarians so cannot comment on the non-veg fare. The staff was attentive. As far as check-in and check-out experience are concerned, both were very smooth. In fact , it is worth mentioning , that it was probably the first time in Europe that the front desk asked us if we needed help with our luggage- during check-out!! There was minor issue of non-reversal of blocked card amount for more than a week after we checked out. However, it was resolved quite promptly once we wrote to the hotel. All in all, I would definitely stay here again
We stayed here for one night on our train journey from Venice to Paris. The big plus is that it is located opposite the rail station and 15 mins walk from the 'Old Town' The hotel is very 70's 'Modern but is clean and comfortable. The breakfast was excellent and plentiful.
I decided to stay in that hotel due to location just in front of train station. Rooms generally ok, but bathrooms quite old fashion (in a negative way). My room has connection to other room, where other couple was staying. They were really loud, they were argue almost whole evening. It was so loud due to door that conects our two rooms, that I had to call reception, asking if they can make the people in that room next to my, stop arguing so loud. But generally with no effect. Breakfast is probably the best part of staying in that hotel. Is a la carte, so you do not have to take food that was prepared some time ago, but you get freshly prepared food. But one of the worse experience was check out (why? it should be the best experience, as it is the last memory about the hotel). There was queue of 4 people to reception (around 9am) and one receptionist. And that person, was doing check out, was collecting phone calls from rooms and selling tickets for trips. Was waiting almost 15 min. Of course that receptionist did not ask any one of her collegue to join her at reception. There was man (I think was some kind of hotel porter, who was making set of paper tissues looking like a flower on a table, so after these 15min, I asked him if he could ask someone to come to reception, as waiting 15 min and still being 4th in the queue is no promising. After 2-3 min one more person appeared at reception and it speed up the process of check out, but it is pity that customer have to ask for that after waiting 15 min.
This hotel is in a convenient location, as we arrived by train from Switzerland and could walk across the road to the hotel. The guy who helped us with the bags was great and this hotel is nice and central making it easy to explore the town by foot. We had a terrible experience when we checked out though. The day before checking out I had purchased 2 Innsbruck Cards from the front desk. The cards themselves are great and I highly recommend them. When I purchased them however the lady asked if I wanted to have the charge added to my room. I said I would prefer to pay cash and the lady accepted my payment of 78 Euro. When we went to check out the same lady said that we had not yet paid for them. I don't know why they don't keep a record of transactions or why they couldn't check video footage to see we had paid for them, but after 5 minutes of arguing they just got very rude with us and assumed we were trying to cheat them out of the money. It left us with a bad experience after having a good time in Innsbruck and we found it extremely unprofessional for them to treat us tis way after it had been their unprofessionalism for not making a record of the transaction. It would deter me from going back here.
