Sheraton Huizhou Beach Resort

it worths my time writing a review as this should be the worst 5 star experience i ever had. not to the staffs thou as they are generally polite. firstly a big disappointment about the beach. very nice photo in the website but when u arrived that is totally different. attached here u can compare the (real vs website). although the decor was old and furniture is deteriorated, the sea view room is still nice with a balcony. so i wanted to grab a drink to enjoy, and then learnt that minibar is empty in this so-called 5 star resort . called and they said they can deliver red wine by glass. so i decided to call after shower. after shower i called, the other guy said the contrary that they don’t offer by glass, but have to order whole bottle instead (!). is this a joke? cant complete a whole bottle on my own, so i gave up and ordered beer. i wanted draft-beer - they don’t have it. i wanted Heineken by can - sorry out of stock (5 star hotel has Heineken out of stock!). ended up ordered a pricy can of Carlsberg at RMB 58. hopping it was a normal imported one, but ended up a chinese local one at alcohol 3% only. as a personal issue i can only sleep with harder mattress. this is expected from a 5 star hotel to offer such option. but i was told they don’t have it. all they can do is only to put a wooden board on a mattress. to compensate they upgraded me to this sea-view room. yes that made me feel better but that doesn’t solve my problem as i couldn’t sleep well whole night ( so i have lot of time to write this review now). and this is not expected from a five star. last but not least personally i m Sheraton platinum member. but i was told i cant enjoy member benefit (e.g. lounge access) as the reservation was made via an agent at a discounted price. so i feel being a platinum member they are not rewarding my loyalty. if this is the policy thats fine, but if i can, i don’t want to stay with Sheraton again. very bad feeling.

We drove 2 hours to Huizhou to stay at Sheraton two nights, expecting to have a great weekend relaxing at the beach, but what we experienced was really disappointment! We have never seen a Sheraton hotel breakfast so bad and poor. Far away to be a 5 stars hotel breakfast. More than that, we saw the hotel beach photos at Booking.com, a nice and clean beach with beautiful umbrellas and chairs, But when we arrived we met only a very short beach without no umbrellas or chairs available on the beach. Also the Sheraton Huizhou Hotel Beach closes from12:00 to 15:00. According to the hotel staff the beach must be closed following the local government orders, but on their website its not mentioned !!! We had a walk into other hotels (Regal) to get information The Regal's beach is open 24 hours. We would like to know, Why does the Sheraton Hotel Beach have to be closed? We feel unfair and cheated by your website! We are very disappointed.

This is the 3rd time I've been this hotel, and this time round I am bringing my friend and colleague to join me for vacation (staying 2 nights). I would like to highlight the issue as below:- 1) The interior was dark and smelled of mildew 2) A lot Hotel room facility out of order (example, the socket which inside the toilet) 3) waitress and Chef service are bad, especially the chef of the restaurant (breakfast), always share us the unfriendly face. Request a coffee (latte) from a waitress, she keep telling us don't have, but when I was talking to the duty manager, he serve me the latte immediately. 4) one of my Lady friend request a bathrobe from the room service team, the hotel staff never knock the door and just came in the room, put on the bathrobe on the bed and walk out from the room (the room was opened and my friend was in the balcony.) 5) Facility of the hotel lack of maintenance - signature dolphin pool, always closed - outdoor hot spring pool - out of order - Jacuzzi pool (male) - out of order - cold pool (male) - out of order - steam room (male) - out of order - heather at Ladies - out of order very disappointed we have this kind of service from Sheraton. this make us very upset

The hotel has a large property and a nice enough room. However it is sloppy and lacks a certain omph. We had the large family room which is good value, but in a family room there shouldn't really be an open power socket. Next to one of the double beds in what must be the kids room, one power socket was open. The AC didn't seem to cool the room quite enough to our liking, but other than that it was spacious and clean. The hotel has a lot of swimming pools and guest facilities, most of which were closed during our stay. One of the Asian restaurants were closed as well. Most of the beach was also closed in preparations for the season, even if end of April the temperature is well above 25 degrees in South China most of the time. Inside the spa in the changing rooms they also seemed to be non-operational. In the gym two of the exercise bikes were out of order. So for a large hotel most of it couldn't be used even if it was nice and warm. The food in the Western restaurant were average out of the choices we had. Probably the Chinese one would be a better choice but with small kids that isn't always an option. The breakfast was a veritable disaster area, as it often is in China, however it was sloppily handled by the staff. Tables were not tidied so dirty dishes were crowding a sea of empty tables. As a result finding a place to sit almost an hour before breakfast closed was hard. There was no staff on hand to assist in finding a table and no coffee service at our table at least. I waited 20 minutes for a clean cup to arrive so I could get some coffee, no wonder since nobody took care of the dirty dishes. The coffee machines were mostly broken down, two out of three didn't work and the last one seemed to be singing its last verse. The buffet had heating lamps over the hot food, all of which as far as I could tell were turned off to save power or not working. Which is probably fine if you enjoy a cold fried egg. Top tip is to arrive for breakfast early. It is probably better to go to this hotel mid-week off season for some nice rest and negotiate a good deal for the price.

Booked the hotel without reading reviews thinking it's Sheraton, after booking went through trip advisor and saw that one of the latest guest reviewed about his bad experience. Was really worried about my family vacation going wrong. But thanks to the wonderful stay and great support staff, my experience has been great, wonderful rooms, nice bath tub ;) kids enjoyed a lot. The hotel has many amenities for a wonderful vacation. Food was good as well. We spend our three nights peacefully without venturing out. Thanks Sheraton.

My family and I booked a grand deluxe sea view room with a large patio and "hot tub" on the patio. It's more of a bath tub. We were very disappointed with the state of the room upon checking in . Especially considering it's a premium room with a premium price. The outdoor bathtub was filthy. The previous guests leftover food was still in the room fridge. The out door furniture is worn out and in need of replacement. When we asked the hotel to clean the outdoor bath tub they said no one ever uses it so it's not cleaned ????? Guess they never thought the reason no one uses it is because it's dirty. In general the state of maintenance of the room and hotel are very much below the quality level of a Sheraton managed hotel. The view from the room is very good until you look to the left and see the large power plant spewing out smoke from the smoke stack. The gardens are nice and there is a nice pier to stroll out on. The large patio is really really nice to chill out on. There appears to be programs for kids but they don't appear to be running. Which is odd as it's Chinese New Year and kids are everywhere. The beach is fair and nice for a walk, A bit to cold to try the water. With some regular maintenance this could be a a great place to get away!

Like always i would like to give more points, but i can not. A brand, a new promise something, promise a lowest level of the standard you can expect. And an international chain, need to provide that, also if the international guest are not often. Thats about languages, cleanses, rules and how to make extra money and it is about details. Because what makes the different between 4 and 5 Stars, the details makes the difference. My general feeling about western brand hotels in China are, when they build them up new, wow, great hotels. Let they get some years and its only the label, but building maintenance and cleaning level are not the right standard anymore and they are more local oriented. Often these chains have second newer hotel near and this one is in the focus, old one try to squeeze out so much money as possible with so less costs as possible. Ramada seams to be the same (for example Ramada Kowloon, i was never more disappointed about a hotel then that). Ok, but now the good points. Nice big room, it would been perfect if clean and not looking old (rusty windows, wall damages because of humility . Same for the bathroom. Same for the most of rooms and floors. Nice garden, nice ocean view (only the near nuclear plant destroys the atmosphere. Breakfast was good, Knifes and Forks from WMF (nice, but a clean room is more important). Dinner buffet was really local oriented, but ok 99% was local guest and not international ones. So it was ok, but sure nothing special, but direct near to the ocean, what i like, what i would like most without the near nuclear plant. The lunch we took in one of the restaurant (inasia or something like that) was good, western and international good food, price ok. Here same not really international rules: Beach has opening hours, 09-12 and 3pm to 7pm. These rule has something to do with worker protection. Ok, i don't know, but fine. Second rule, it is a must to wear a bath cap is you want to use the outdoor or indoor swimming pool. Sorry but that kind of rules i have not heard anymore since 1980. The hotel staff explain to us it is for our own safety. . . haha . . .and we could buy bath caps in the hotel (direct at the pool) for only 18rmb (aha thats the reason). I did not follow that rule and i used the outdoor swimming pool without a bath cap. My reason, i have more hair on my legs than on my head. So we made the best from it and had a good time, with missing details, buy the way, old outdoor furniture (the look and also some really broken) and LED light installations in non professional and not nice looking way. If you can ignore such things it is fine . . .

my girlfriend and i stay here for 2 days, it has private beach, overall it's good, service, cleanness etc, breakfast is very limited, and doesn't taste good. it's good for vacation, spend sometime with family.

We went on the weekend just before a Chinese holiday and missed the rush. It was a good place to relax. Quiet mornings on the beach and on the balcony. In the evening, the beach closes early, though, so don't plan late night walks.

My company held a sales training in Southern China and I helped organize the event with about 20 colleagues. I chose Huizhou because of the beaches, and Sheraton because of its reputation. At the end of the day, the beaches were lesser to my expectation but the hotel was much of a disappointment. The location was a bit remote from the main business area of Xunliao Bay, a good 30 mins drive from the toll booth connecting the mainland with the peninsula. In other words, if you do not have a car you are trapped. I guess the key disappointment is that you would expect some service from staff being Sheraton, but most of our staff engagements were fustrating, I wouldn't even call that disappointing. Our group stayed for 3 days so I have plenty to write, but I would give you some examples starting with front desk. I was checked in by an ice cold lady, forget about the smile and the greeting. It felt like I am talking to an agent in the Inland Revenue Service/Tax department. I looked at the rest of the agent and they were all stone face. They would give short answer only when you ask. One of my colleague checked in 3 times to different rooms, the first two times there were people in the room taking shower, and the ladies' husband was going to kill my colleague for intruding! The front desk said we came at the peak time hence the hiccup in room assignment. The air in the room was very sticky, so were all the furniture and fabrics, air conditioner was really not functioning that well. We went to the Asian restaurant. It was deserted. We ordered draft beer to start. The waiter was gone for 20 mins while we looked at the food menu. We were trying to chase down the waiter, we couldn't so a waitress came and we had to repeat our order, and the funny thing was that she asked if we want our draft beer in cans or bottles???? What the hell! (Just so you know we were asking in both English and Chinese so not a language barrier but product knowledge). We went to the beach side BBQ dinner next day, nice view, but the food was not what you would normally expected for a barbecue buffet dinner, and most of the food was a repeat from the breakfast buffet. We went to the lobby bar, sat down, no one would come over to serve. We had to walk to the bar and asked them to serve. We also went to the game room and played some snooker, after some time a staff barged in and said you guys haven't paid (not in a nice way). We said we paid up front. She then said it's past 60 mins so you haven't paid now! Our group revisited the Asian restaurant on our final day, the waitress took 20 mins to get our order (and repeated that to us). Then she came out and tell us order-by-order that they ran out of food on half of our order, and went on later to have a personal arguement with the number of orders we had because of the messup. The quick lunch has turned into a 2 hour waiting game. Imagine our group spent almost ten thousands US and was treated like that, and what would have happened to their other customers? I had too many examples but let me stop right here. The only people that act like Sheraton staff were the front desk supervisor during check out, and the banquet sales manager. It only appeared to be damage control. It's best to think of this place as an independently owned and operated hotel, with a Sheraton logo. Everyone was acting on their own and had no formal customer service training. It's best to set your expectation to zero so you won't be disappointed. The Sheraton management should also seriously consider if they would disassociate their name with the property, before more damages are done on their goodwill.
