Service is down from previous trips, paid for upgrade and did not feel or looked like it.

First trip back to Mexico & Huatulco in 8 years; used to come twice a year but stopped making trip due to bad press on Mexico crime. In Mexico 10 days and at Barcelona for 6. Construction/renovation underway at hotel but only minor issue. Staff was great, beach was wonderful. Booked Barcelona based on promotion rates & we now plan to return in 6 months or less. Crime and or personal safety was not a problem.

My husband and I hadn't been on a vacation without any kids in about 5 years, so this was a really great break for us. We wish we could have stayed about a month, so we could thoroughly enjoy all that the resort and Huatulco has to offer. We will be telling our friends and family about this hidden treasure.

No comentes everything was GREAT food, pools, rooms, personal, very very friendly people , my wife wants to go back next year

This was a highschool graduation gift for me and my daughter, we spent a great time at Barcelo, the most enjoyable thing at the resort was the nightly entertaiment-it was AWESOME!! the performers were very professional and they dance wonderfully', every night was a different themed show and it was a pleasant surprise for the whole audience. The main reason to return to Barcelo Huatulco will be to see the shows again! I will greatly recommend this hotel, also The Mexican food theme night at the restaurant was so great!

Average experience. As a group this was our second stay at this resort. We found the bar service to be lacking and the consistency of drinks to be in need of attention. Same drink from 3 different bars, all different drinks. Food services were also lacking attendance, many times trays were empty and no refills. Many of us went for breakfast and on numerous occasions had to wait or get a waiter/waitress for coffee. People saving lounge chairs and then taking off for the day without using them was a constant problem. Hope these issues could be addressed. We probably would look at another resort next time as we did not experience this the first time. Too bad because we like the location.

The overall experience was very good. The food was good and every day they had something different. The restaurant help was great. My kids were happy and there was always something to do. The hotel was completely full and it's never easy to put so many people together without lines. The only inconvenience was arriving from the airport before the check in time of 3pm. If you arrive before 3pm don't expect your room in vacation season, same for late checkout, that was impossible.

The hotel is very clean, staff is nice, and they have in the All Inclusive many nice things like food and drinks. A problem is that I realized that they don't replentish the mini bar every day. Something else is that they don't provide or have in display, as part of the all inclusive, red or white wines. They have nice tennis couryards, gym and free cayaks. The food is good but not outstanding like in other all inclusive hotels. Is just a regular buffet with nothing extraordinary.

The hotel in general is fine. Great location, good food and nice staff. The hotel is not perfect cause ther are some details, but it is not a big thing.

Had 16 days of perfect weather. Decent golf course 5 minutes away. Staff very attentive to your needs. Food is excellent and lots of variety at each meal. Restaurants à la carte are ok but not great. Rooms are very clean but quite a bit outdated. Refreshing time has arrived. The TV in the room was replaced by one just as bad. They are due for the recycling bin.

The Barcelo Huatulco is nicely located, right on the ocean, with a great view and a lovely beach. The pool and the water amenities are very good. However, the hotel has obviously aged, and could use a new facelift and a fresh coat of paint, new tile in the rooms, etc. We booked here because it was competitively priced and the meals were included. Our first meal (lunch) was a disappointing buffet lunch. Breakfast was OK, and the Mexican night theme with the Mariachi band was well done. Overall, if you're looking for a budget / value all inclusive hotel and are not too concerned with the food or the newness of the facility, you'll be fine here.

It was all Great. good food and service I will go again.

Huatulco and the surrounding cities are absolutely beautiful. If you want to relax and are not a bit shopper or like to go out partying, Huatulco is not for you. The weather is constantly cloud –free and temperatures while we went were consistently 95 degrees plus. We used Grey Line Tours to pick us up from the airport and also for a tour of the bays. I would highly suggest taking this tour, specifically through Grey Line and ask for [...]. He was the best tour guide anyone would ask for. He constantly made sure we were having a good time and even took our group on a side trip to a Mezcal house to sample tequila from the region. He even took us back to the Mezcal house on the day we departed because we did not have enough money to purchase anything when we were first there. We stayed at the Barceló Huatulco Beach and at first glance, it appears wonderful. However, once you actually get there, it is a different story. The staff does not go out of their way to welcome you like other places that I have been (Cancun, Cabo San Lucas). They did not greet us with a welcome or hello…they simply asked our name and started the check-in process. We paid extra for the premium services such as higher quality liquor, use of the internet, best room, first dibs on reservations at the nice restaurants, etc. The only value to that service was internet use. I was used to Cancun where when you paid for that service you had a representative. We tried purchasing items in the gift shop and you either had to exchange money at the front desk or you had to at least have a $5 minimum charge to use a credit card while the little mom and pop shops across the street took American money. You also had to have your passport in order to exchange money-never heard of that before. We could have been told about this at check in. During the week, we only saw a waiter or waitress by the pool twice and the last time because they did not have the drink my friend wanted, they never came back. Only once during meals were we asked if we wanted something else to drink after our first one was finished and at times, we noticed that silverware that was set at places where people were sitting but had since left was re-used to set the table again. We also would sit in the lobby bar for sometimes 15 minutes before someone would ask us if we wanted a drink. The food was great and there was a lot of it and everything was pretty clean but there is something to be said when staff makes you feel like you are not welcome. I will never go to another Barceló anywhere after this experience.

During our stay I became very ill. The Dr at Barcelo Huatulco provided excellent care. The 1st room we stayed in had a very hard bed with metal rods/ springs that left bruises on my body. We finally upgraded to premium status ($$$) when we found a premium room with a much more comfortable bed. The weather in Huatulco was perfect for a February vacation. We've stayed in the Dominican Republic, Playa Del Carmen, and Ixtapa and Huatulco had the warmest temperatures. 86-90F days, 68-72F eves. Other locations felt too cool in the evening or the pool would be very cold. We would definitely go back to Huatulco but might shop around for other all-inclusive resorts. The service at Barcelo was great at times but sub-standard at other times.

We did an ATV tour and a 7 bay trip, as well as a trip to the ruins. Cab fares are very reasonable, 30 pesos to get you from the Barcelo to town a few miles away. Snorkeling was ok however the clarity of the water is not nearly as good as the Caribbean and temperature is colder. The resort is very clean and the staff was very friendly and helpful. Our guide for the ruins was very informative. [...].The staff was world class. It's a great location, beautiful beach. Our trip was during the first week of December and this is a very quiet time of the year. We heard from a number of the tour guides that the last couple weeks in December are very busy.

I love beach resorts and am fortunate to have visited many in the Caribbean, Gulf Coast, and Mexico. This is the best and I am eager to return and include my kids and grandkids. The lush scenery and grounds are beautiful plus staff, food, services and all amenities are terrific. There are plenty of wonderful things to see and do in the area, and the nearby town is charming with friendly folks and fun shopping. Do not miss a boat tour of all the lovely bays and beaches with stops for swimming and snorkeling. Anyone, any age can expect a great time here!

Most relaxing week. Staff superb. Food was so good. Fresh fish everyday. Something for everyone. I'd stay away from the Plantion Tour. Kind of pricey for what for what you get. Don't see much of a plantation. Very long bumpy ride on primative roads up a mountain. If you do go be sure to wear a bathing suit. There is a waterfall and river you can swim in. Make sure you tour the bays by boat. Cost us $100 for four all day. This is the place to go for a veg out vacation. Quiet area & SAFE

It was overall friendly. More family oriented. The staff made everyone feel at home, and its activities were great. Open Bar PLUS!

We enjoyed this trip, compared to our trip last year to Cancun. We are a middle aged couple, finally able to get away and we relaxed and had a peaceful vacation. Not the typical tourist trap or singles scene. This was more of a cultural experience, as the towns reflected the normal daily life of the residents. We felt very comfortable and the only difficulty outside the hotel area was language, as we do not speak Spanish. Great places in the area for water activities, Jet Ski rental, deep sea fishing, snorkeling and swimming. We understand why the cruise ships make one of the towns, Santa Cruz a stop. We went deep sea fishing with local named Tico his boat was the Marsella out of Santa Cruz. He spoke good English and he was very accommodating and helpful for beginners or pros. Very clean boat and provided all necessities. We even wanted to go out with him again, but he was booked and we were not surprised. We went during their off season, May was very hot and humid, but with the main activities being water sports it was great. Could not believe how warm the Pacific Ocean is there compared to San Diego!! We are seriously considering a return trip during their normal season (winter) as the mountain areas were brown and dry. Even though still amazing views, it must be gorgeous when green. Definitely a great place for a family and very kid friendly. The staff did a great job keeping all entertained and the food had a selection for every taste. There were many families there and it was not an issue, like some places where the children become an annoyance. No need to rent a car, the taxis are very reasonable and there is always one around. We could go from the hotel to town for $3.00 USD, almost as cheap as bus fare at home. No bus service like Cancun, but not an issue.

friendly staff, great food, helpful locals, great weather. entertainment included very family oriented, quiet to relax.
