I have stayed in many of Houston's high end hotels ( not all, but many), and the St. Regis is my favorite. I would stay here every time I visit Houston if there were no financial restraints. Alas, exclusivity is expensive. But this hotel is glorious. Here are my criteria for judging an elite hotel, in no particular order. A great bed---if a hotel aspires to be elite, it has to get this right. The St. Regis Houston gets it right. A cool, dark room for sleeping---another check. Quietness--- the St. Regis is the quietest hotel in Houston, in my opinion. Beauty/Ambiance---no problem here. The hotel and rooms are gorgeous. This is a wonderful hotel, and I would stay here frequently if that were possible.
We always enjoy our stay at The St. Regis. We stayed in a grand luxe corner suite and it is spacious and elegant. The beds are great and the hotel is quiet and relaxing. My only minor complaint was that I asked the concierge about obtaining a spa appointment and he said that he would check and get back to me. I never heard from him on availability. I finally checked with the spa while I was working out, but I expect better follow up at this type of hotel.
St Regis Houston is on a quiet street and seems to cater more to middle eastern oil patrons than others Usual amenities, turn down / butler, with ok room service Staff eager to help in person Confirm details like morning paper, extra pillows or robes An oasis for those inclined
Stayed for a couple nights for work. Even though it's a St Regis property, being away from home at a hotel is an impersonal, solitary existence. The staff at the St Regis Houston made me feel like I was a member of their family for the time I was there. What I loved: the staff were very friendly and always had a personal touch ("Welcome back Mrs X", "How was your meeting, Mrs X?). The cabs line up outside the hotel so there's no waiting for a cab. The doormen also helped with directions for the cabbies. Everyone seemed to know my name, even though there was a conference of guests that week. What I enjoyed: comfortable room, cozy bed, quiet hotel, attentive cleaning staff. There was a nice lap pool outside, which I would've loved to try. If you're a Target fan (or need a few things while in town), it's a 5 minute walk. Fancier shops, such as Canali & Cartier are 10 minutes away by foot. What could be improved: the decor is dated and needs an upgrade. Look past this and you'll have a wonderful stay. All in all, it was a pleasure staying at the St Regis Houston. I hope to make a trip back soon.
this is a very nice place and the staff in the hotel is very nice. I wish they would not allow dogs as the upscale crowd here doesn't seem to care if their pup barks incessantly. Remington's remains stuffy, overpriced and with less than nice staff. But overall this is a nice hotel for this part of the city.
My wife and I chose to stay here for our anniversary weekend. We've stayed once before and were very pleased before so we tried it again. The hotel is gorgeous, has an attentive professional staff from the bellman to the butler! What a fabulous place to stay and play. Great restaurants located inside the hotel. Our room was incredible! We will be back. Highly recommend!!
I stayed for three nights at the St. Regis in Houston for the Memorial Day weekend, as I had come to Houston for a weekend exploring art and architecture. The staff at the hotel was very friendly, welcoming, and accommodating, but I am not sure I would recommend it. The rooftop pool was somewhat shabby. The cushions on the lounge chairs were stained and the landscaping was not very nice. The hotel is in a nice neighborhood, but borders an area with strip malls and shabby buildings, and the views from the roof were of these buildings. Better landscaping could have provided a more secluded, private feeling. The spa hours were only 9 am to 4 pm, so after coming home to the hotel for a day of sightseeing, you could not get a treatment. While the hotel bed was comfortable, and there was a large--and easy to figure out--tv, the decor felt a bit dated. Everything in the hotel is a shade of brown! The Remington Bar felt very dark and dated as well, and although there were clearly other guests in the hotel, it did not have a lively feeling. There were nice touches like bringing a paper to your room each morning and the ability to use the hotel car to take you to places within a three mile radius, including the Menil Collection and Rothko Chapel. The room service food was ok, and if you didn't want to drive or take a taxi somewhere, you had to eat at the hotel as there are no restaurants in walking distance, but I thought that it should have had more southwestern or southern items on the menu.It was all very standard: club sandwich, burger, etc... Overall, I was a bit disappointed as I thought it would be a nicer experience and that the St. Regis brand really meant a luxury experience.
I would recommend this hotel to those traveling to Houston. It is not an oversized hotel so access to the hotel rooms and facilities was very easy. The hotel staff was very friendly and helpful, including the valets. Most importantly, the rooms were comfortable and quiet. I got a good night's sleep throughout the 4 night stay. The location of the hotel was also very convenient. It is very close to many of Houston's points of interest. I booked this hotel through American Express' fine hotels program and was able to get a good rate and a room upgrade. The only drawback of the room was the coffee maker. The disposable cup does not sit firmly below the water dispenser. When the coffee starts dripping the machine gyrates a bit and the cup drops off the machine if you do not keep watch on it. The coffee ended up spilling on the counter.
My husband was extremely disappointed in getting this hotel through an online booking agency through a unnamed hotel assignment based on star rating. He selected a 5 star and needless to say nothing online rates the St. Regis as 5 star. If you google it and on multiple third-party sites this is rated as 4-4.5 at most. We received our room assignment and went up to the room where there was dirt on the doors, dust, hair, and cracked walls. You could tell no one had been assigned this room for awhile. Also walking up there was used room service trays in the hall that were not picked up. We called down to the front desk and asked to be moved to a clean room. At this point it was after 10 p.m. and we were tired. We went to sleep and woke up several times in the middle of the night as the air conditioning was not blowing hardly. We called the operator and they sent someone and turns out whoever cleaned the room never reset it back to the normal setting so there was no air coming out of the vents. I travel all over the world and work for a major airline, I can tell you this is not a five star rating at all. What's worse is that we felt duped by the rating the agency website gave this place as we could received a real 4 star rated hotel for less than half of what we paid for something they said was "five stars" but was far from it.
I took my mother to Houston for the antique show in March. We stayed at the St. Regis for the first time and we both were so impressed. There were beautiful fresh flowers everywhere, including a live orchid in our room. The room was spacious and quiet and we loved it. The food in the restaurant was delicious and we had a nightcap at the bar. We will definitely re-visit this lovely hotel. Very nice staff, as well. It is a luxury hotel without the luxury price tag.
