The hotel is situated at really nice location at the feet of Harz Mountain with a beautiful forest view on all sides. It's next to the ski lifts which take you up to the mountain. The hotel itself is very nice, even if the rooms are dated - one would expect this in a well-established building , rooms are spacious and with balcony. All the facilities listed in the description have been modernised and, without dwelling on it, the public area toilets off the reception area are the best I have seen in a hotel for some time - my wife tells me that the ladies' were equally clean and impressive. The large indoor swimming pool has glass wall with a fabulous view over the surrounding forest. The food served at breakfast and dinner was ample, varied and of a very high quality for a buffet-style presentation. We never ate at the English bar as we were always out on tour. Overall we were pleased with the hotel and would recommend it to anyone staying or touring in the Harz Mountains. On the down side, the bar was understaffed at busier periods, the same could be said for the Restaurant.
In our view the hotel is just ok. Our room was fine being of a good size, well equipped and complete with a balcony. The bar (pub style) was fine and comfortable but the excellent barman was heavily overworked and service was frequently slow as was the wine waiter in the dining room. More support with additional staff definitely required. The breakfast buffet was a very good offering yet dinner, also served buffet style, was a little disappointing. Dinner wasn't something to particularly look forward to. The location of the hotel is more suited to winter skiers and, in our view, Braunlage is a too quiet a position for summer visits.
Lovely, comfortable hotel with good food, excellent facilities and attentive staff. The hotel is a little dated but this just adds to its charm. It is in a great location and each room has a balcony. The rooms are large and clean.
Stayed at the Maritim for a week on a Great Railway package. Staff were very attentive and helpful and the catering was excellent. Built in the '70s I think, the hotel is a little dated, but the views from the balcony compensate somewhat and the package overall was very good value for money. Would we stay there again? Yes.
The hotel is situated at really nice location at the feet of Harz Mountain with the nice forest view. It's just 2min walk from ski lifts which are taking you up to the mountain. The hotel itself is quite nice , rooms are spacious and with balcony. The best point is their pool and sauna facilities, large pool has glass wall with a view on forest. The only disappointment at this hotel was food! Never ever try to order food at their bar !!!You gonna wait hours long for it (even for cold snack platter) and if they will finally bring it , you hardly find it eatable! Moreover the prices are quite high :( At breakfast you can find something eatable as it offers big food selection and must mention they offer the glass of champagne for breakfast , which makes it more nice.
Lets start with the positives: Very friendly and able receptionists could help me whenever I had a request. The hotel itself is located on the flank of a mountain giving a nice view from every room, just what I was looking for. The only reason why I gave 3 out of 5 points is that my overall stay was a pleasant one. So lets move on to the downside: The hotel is old and barely renovated. Its like sleeping at our grandparents. In the ancient bathroom the really annoying thing is the toilet which is about half the height of a normal one with the side effect that men will make unwanted contact with the bowl when sitting down. The walls where not noise proofed, flatscreen TVs are a thing of the future and the WiFI was slower than EDGE on a phone.
We stayed in this hotel over the Christmas holiday and despite the negativity of some of the reviews we were very pleasantly surprised. The hotel is large and austere from the road but the rooms were very clean and roomy. The balcony in better weather would be a delightful place to sit and enjoy the staggering views. Yes the lifts are a nuisance but you do get down eventually. It was rather funny at times going up and down like a yo yo and being frequently mistaken for Germans. Yes the bathroom tiles are brown and 60's but the shower was excellent and the maid was very good at replacing towels and toiletries. The bedding was high quality and the bed itself extremely comfortable. We were met with a bottle of fizz, fruit, cakes and chocolates - a very nice touch. This is a hotel not full of English translation so take a dictionary. We were about 40 English to 460 Germans. The dining room is the largest I have ever seen but the service was quick and efficient. Although not well advertised, the top floor entertainment bar is well worth a visit with staggering daytime views . The music on offer was, to my mind, extremely good. The Germans in the hotel liked to dance and there was plenty of opportunity to do so. The waiters were extremely polite and helpful. The Maitre d' ensured all dietary preferences were catered for. Unfortunately, whilst staying in the hotel the cable-car nearby was unable to operate due to the high winds but check their opening hours if staying over Christmas-not sure they would have been open over this period despite the weather. There is a woodland walk close to the hotel and a walk downhill to the town takes about 15 minutes. A taxi back would be advisable if not good on steep inclines. .
Really bad small old room for two adults and 8y old child Bad service and food quality Enforced dinner times Breakfast tables at 9.30 not ready three times in a row self cleaning tables and organizing cutlery and all other items more than 400€ per night for much below 4 star service
This was my first stay at the Hotel in Braunslage. We went there during the holidays and stayed over christmas. Having not much experience about the star rating we hoped this four star restaurant would make us a nice vacation, but we were bitterly disappointed. We had a room with a nice view in the 8th floor, overlooking Braunslage and surrounding towns. But it seems like the room itself has not been modernized since the construction of the hotel in 1973. The whole bathroom is incredible low. The sink, toilet and bathtub are way below standards and we could almost use them better while being on our knees. Warm water takes very long to reach the sink and even longer to reach the bathtub/shower. While the rest of the room and the beds were acceptable, the TV, a 10 year old tube, was access restricted, meaning you could not turn the volume over a certain threshold and other restrictions that made watching TV a pain, so we stopped using it. The room itself smelled when we arrived due to the old carpet in the room. After opening the windows and balcony for several hours the smell was gone. For our job we need a reliable internet connection, checking Emails, messages and opening the occasional website. Unfortunately the hotels WLAN was also restricted to 500KBit/s which means a maximum download speed of around 70Kbyte/s.(!) With such a limited bandwidth if often too up to a minute to open a website. Watching videos or downloading content from dropbox or slack were not possible. Additionally the connection would drop every two minutes, making it impossible to download simple word, excel or pdf files. After our complains about the room the management told us that these were the only rooms they had available for us. The WIFI connection could be made better by purchasing the 5$ a day internet pass. Of course we were disappointed but we needed the faster connection and bought the 1 day pass, which changed barely nothing. The connection was faster but we still could not download files and the connection still dropped every two minutes. At least now with the 2MB (!) paid connection we were able to log into website and send emails. Still, this is completely unacceptable. Our next disappointment was at dinner. As we stayed in the hotel over Christmas, we had the “Christmas Buffet”, which included buffet on some days and a custom menu on others. The day we arrived we told the staff that we would like to not eat any meat or fish that would be on the menu. The staff was completely ok and said they would prepare us a separate dish. The next day at dinner we received the dish with meat. We told the staff and were upset, but it is understandable that such thing could happen. Shortly after we got the separate dish, which was a fourth zucchini overcooked with cheese. The dish was so abysmally small that our neighbors started to get angry at the service before we could even say anything. The staff seemed overwhelmed and gave us another portion of the same dish, holding it in front of our face, saying “do you want the 2nd portion”. A staff assistant stopped him, as we started to discuss the matter. They excused themselves and took our dishes away quickly, promising to make an actual dish. They returned with the same dish everyone else had on the menu, just without the meat, but again in a very small size, maybe a third of the size everyone else around us had. This more and more seemed like an insult and felt like they were trying to escalate the situation. A minute later our “alternate dish” arrived with the staff asking us if we are happy now. Noodles with sauce. And they tasted exactly like what they were, prepared in two minutes. We left the room and were about to complain to the hotel manager as the restaurant manager showed up, which was missing the whole time, and was sorry about the whole situation, we did not receive a new dish. Our situation might not apply to many people, but it still was a horrible experience. To summarize: Horrible Internet Old rooms and very low bathroom interiors Insultingly bad service If you want to stay at this hotel make sure you don’t care about any of these points and you will be happy.
70's Soviet style large hotel up short but very steep hill from cable car. Public areas average, one small bar called a pub. Large indoor and outdoor pool and spa. Bedrooms large and adequate. Four vast dining rooms, very good breakfast, average dinner. Service could be slow. Despite 10 floors and 100's rooms there are onlt 3 lifts so waits for lifts can be long. The hotel is on the very edge of the village and feels isolated and lacks atmosphere. It is frequented by multiple coach parties and it huge size means that it can accomodate these with ease.
