The staff 100%. Breakfast and other meals good. I stayed in Room 23 and found it to be clean and well presented, the exception being the venetian blinds, which didn't seem to have reveived attention for some time. There was a problem with the shower mixer, which, as I was only staying for two nights, I only reported on my departure. Room 23 is immediately adjacent to a first floor public terrace; this didn't bother me as it was closed for access and the weather was inclement, but it would be problematic when an event was taking place in good weather. Fairly happy overall, and I would return if I revisit Alton.

Be WARNED

Absolute worse hotel I have ever been too. Myself and 9 other guest including the grooms experienced cold showers the morning of the wedding. We therefore had no option but to proceed with showering in these circumstances as we would have been late for the wedding if not. Hotel manager was very unapologetic and compassionate to what we had experienced. To some degree mentioned what we had experienced was fine and the norm. To all potential customers I strongly warn against this hotel to avoid a similar experience

A good stay in a nice town.

We booked for its proximity to the Mid Hants railway station which is just around the corner . It was very convenient for the old high street and we will definetly visit again . A nice corner room gave us good light .We cannot comment on the restaurant as it does Sunday lunches not evening meals that day. Overall NO downsides on our single nights stay with convenient parking arrangements.

Located on Alton High Street within easy walk of local restaurants, shops and supermarkets. Modest accomodation at a reasonable price. Rooms are on the small side and very poorly soundproofed. Staff are friendly and helpful, parking is plentiful and free. Slightly sprawling layout so room 31 at the furthest point from reception had possibly the slowest WIFI I’ve ever encountered at any hotel. So slow I couldn’t even load Speedtest and even Google took almost a minute to appear. I gave up trying to read my emails or even logging into my emails. Non functional security lock on the door, no tissues, excellent in-room tea and biscuits, top marks for firm and soft bed options in the twin room (I of course chose both).

An excellent value hotel.

Young lady at reception was extremely helpful and cheery. Checked us in, then became the bar maid for our drinks, and happily gave us fresh milk and extra tea bags for our room, which was very comfortable.

Lovely stay with a little glitch

This is a quaint establishment located perfectly to public transportation and is an easy stroll to all of the nearby shops, groceries and pubs. The English breakfast was lovely and every single person on staff was friendly and engaging. My room faced the front of the hotel and offered a nice breeze. It was actually also very quiet for sleep. If my room were clean my rating would be all 5s. Spider webs, dust, other people’s hair all over the bathroom and the shower curtain needed a scrub or a toss.

The property is just around the corner from the train station and a short walk up to the high street for many dining options. We were able to keep our bicycles safely in a room in the property.

Lovely stay

Had a lovely stay at Alton house hotel, arrived early to find out room was ready for us to drop off the bags, freshen up and get to our planned wedding. Reception staff were very friendly and helpful.

Beautiful room and extremely clean bedroom/bathroom even given the age of the place. Downsides were not everything was available as advertised and therefore could’ve saved money not upgrading the room. No coffee machine. Staff were extremely lovely and welcoming. Entire venue was very clean although some spaces very outdated and not matching.

As disabled person put on second floor with two flights of stairs and no lift. However the lovely receptionist was able to.move me to a more suitable room for which I was grateful. Toilet doe not flush. Guests noisy above and to side until past midnight when I had to ask reception to intervene, which they did nicely. Pillows are scompy. By 8am most components of cooked brea6had run out. No pastries. Overall a disappointing stay that I had looked forward to

Nice kind of quaint older style hotel with a large guest relaxing lounge on the first floor BUT lots of steps up and down depending on your room location. Older potential guests should discuss this with the hotel before booking. Initially booked in a room with a couple of foul-mouthed noisy lads next door and door open. Made an early decision to ask for relocation which was arranged and ended up with a quiet room as we had lots of ground to cover the next day. Breakfast was good and all staff friendly and helpful. Parking more than adequate. Ended up an excellent stay.

We have stayed here before and it is convenient for the area. Sadly they lack the amenities- no microwave, fridge, or safe. All the beds are twins and not overly comfortable. They were cleaning the gutters while we were there and the machine was loud and started early in morning making it impossible to sleep. The staff was wonderful and the rooms were clean. They also held our bags for two days while we were somewhere else until we came back.
