My kids and I stayed a night here. We were made to pay a $100 bond in arrival, which We hadn't been warned about. We discovered soon after we checked in that the tv didn't work so the man from reception was kind enough to give us another room. The rooms were dated and stunk of stale cigarettes. We also had some guys from a few doors down that spent half an hour from 11pm til 11.30pm standing drinking and yelling outside our backdoor.
Let me start with the positives - well the only one positive the internet is fantastic in fact cannot be faulted. Now to the unit isn’t it just amazing how hotel/motels can charge for vastly inferior service. Like bathroom lights that don’t work, the buttons on the toilet are worn through, linings on chairs worn right through to the dirty foam rubber and even though they don’t serve food and when they say they have breakfasts and they don’t do that either. The yard was littered with rubbish. All of this for just $110 per night When I spoke to the management they said that the chairs were supposed to be outside pity that the cleaners didn’t know that when they pulled the duvet over my bed to make it. It really is a pity that I can’t post pictures on this site because if you could nobody would stay there! BTW Bookings.com has this listed as 4.5 stars I was booked by my work into here will they ever book anyone else in there NO WAY
Visiting Hamilton for a friends birthday celebrations, we saw this Motel on the Internet, and thought it looked quite impressive from the street view, and was centrally located. We had driven from Hawkes Bay and I phoned them the day before, hoping we could get into our unit before our Midday function, but found the reception most unhelpful. Our unit, also, was quite a letdown. On arrival we were met by friends who had been there from the previous night, and advised us to not check in, Unfortunately I already had, and had paid on check in. Our room was in the back unit, very quiet, but quite run down. It was quite roomy, and the bed was comfortable, but all very dated. The wallpaper was peeling off the toilet wall, and the toilet so small I found it difficult to shut the door as I manoeuvred around the bowl. The surroundings of the Shub were cracked right down, and the hand basin worn to the point of appearing grubby. The location was good, but so are many others in the vicinity. We would not stay at this Motel again, and would not recommend it to others.
5 rooms booked for 2 nights for 5 couples * door to the bathroom had a hole in it roughly plastered & children’s stickers on door * bathroom ceiling paint badly pealing off * window above spa bath/ shower hanging unable to be closed & a hole in glass where extractor fan used to be! glass also cracked around the hole. * poor crockery selection , no large plates, 3 small mismatched bowls etc t towel provided but no washing liquid to wash cups in the stained bathroom basin! * fan in bedroom was covered in dirt The plus things were, very clean white linen, shower was hot and white towels were nice plus bed was comfortable The other 4 rooms were in much the same state, one unit had a main window pane held together with sticky tape Suffice to say none of us will not be back!!!!!!
This place has friendly staff and a decent location otherwise I would have given it a no star rating. I really don't know where to begin. The room we had was a 'spa' room. Don't be fooled into thinking this makes it classy. The place needs a drastic overhaul. The carpet was stained and had cigarette burns. The sink had cigarette burns. Paper torn and cellotaped on-a long time ago. Even the basics like changing the loo roll wasn't carried out. The best bit was the air conditioning -a ceiling fan with no blades. I will let the pictures speak for themselves.
Unexpectedly, I needed to stay in Hamilton overnight. Lack of hotel or motel rooms in the city this night meant I was forced to stay at the Grosvenor Motor Inn. I got the last room which had two bedrooms with single beds in each. Exterior is tired and untidy. Decor and kitchen unchanged for decades! Wifi completely useless. Poor TV channel choice. Tea towels not fresh. Poor quality toiletries. Terrible lighting. Questionable shower. Paid $168 for the night. I don’t expect 5 star luxury for this price but I’ve recently stayed in many better motels in towns and cities around NZ who have delivered a much better experience for a similar cost. Could not relax here at all. Avoid!
It is cheap and in a relatively good position being a ten minute walk from the centre of town. However it is in a street that is absolutely bursting with motels and I imagine that there are better deals to be had.
What a truly horrible place, old run down and dirty not to mention the staff who were exceptionally rude and completely unhelpful especially the receptionist. After arriving in the rain with my baby I was made to wait in the car park, while being tooted at by the owner I might add who wanted me to move so he could park his car in the car park by the entrance and not get wet. Then I was barked at by the receptionist in very bad English that I had to pay again, which I refused and then tried to sort the matter out only to be told that they had no idea of what sort of online system they use for payment but I was to pay again. Needless to say after consulting my bank I refused. Peeling wallpaper, no milk, slept on the bed not in it as it was so horrible and I was concerned about how clean it was. My experience of the late night wheels and swearing out in the car park was exactly the same as Lisa R.and frankly I would be ashamed to have anyone visiting from overseas get the impression that this is acceptable or normal in the hospitality industry in New Zealand. Up your game GROSSvenor and maybe start with some staff training, a professional cleaner and an up date of the furniture which is tired and dirty. Overall a terrible experience. On an end note it is stated there is WiFi in the room but it was absolutely useless and in the end I gave up and used my own data.
Wish I had read the reviews before booking. Needed emergency accommodation while my partner was in hospital habing surgery and this was the best price I could find. Should have slept in my car!! It is 4am and I am contemplating doing just that as I am not getting any sleep here. One of the guests has decided to change the wheels on their car at 3am (either that or he is stealing the wheels from other vehicles as he has a large pile of wheels on his ute) and is banging about with tools and swearing and yelling at the rest of his group who are on the balcony drinking and playing loud music. There is no phone in the room to contact reception to ask them to control the guests and calling the number for the hotel just goes to answer phone. I am contemplating calling the police as I dont feel safe, the window in bathroom does not close properly and the curtains in the room are hanging off the rail and there is no lock on the inside of the door. I would pack up and leave but I had to park on other side of car park as it was full and I am too scared to go outside. The room smells of badly disguised cigarette smoke, the furniture is old and stained and bathroom fittings are all broken and stained from what appears to be flooding. The bed is bouncy and firm with no mattress covers under sheets. Not evem going to look at what condition it is in. A sign in the room says rooms are only serviced twice a week. I am hoping they also get serviced in between guests? From the outside this Motel appears to be ok amd the fact it had an on site cafe appealed when I booked but dont be fooled by the exterior. It is terrible and I wish I had gone to a back packers instead.
Spent the night in room 14. It’s upstairs directly next to the owners unit, and directly beneath their illegal dwelling. We had a massive 6 hours to get sleep before our airport transfer, and managed to get a grand total of 3 hours as someone was either getting lucky upstairs, or decided that 12am to 3am was the time of night to run an aerobics class. Bed was old and uncomfortable, pillows had little left in them and only 2 per room so we had to supplement them with our own clothing. Decor is WELL past it’s prime. Lights do not work above the bed. Bathroom was straight out of a 90s police murder film. At check in we got a bollocking for asking if we could leave our bags at the motel until the room was ready, although we did get permission over the phone for exactly that since we were only in town for the 7s and couldn’t take our luggage there. Wifi was so slow, we decided to disconnect and just use the mobile data. Overall a terrible experience.
