Novum Hotel Continental Hamburg Hauptbahnhof3.0 out of 5.0

Had a reservation at Novum Kronprinz down the road but got moved to this hotel despite having been in personal contact with hotel a few days before arrival. There has been no offer of compensation for the $53 per night difference in room rates. Inferior room to the Kronzprinz but clean. No available exit if there was a fire and you were in a wheelchair. Management not contactable after 6pm. Beware when you prebook and prepay with Novum.
We stayed in a triple room in late July. We arrived and departed by train and hotel is opposite the train station. Given small room on 5th floor at front of hotel. We drank the bottle of warm fizzy water - nothing to indicate we would have pay 4 euros for it, but no doubt a mistake. Sleeping was virtually impossible. Partly because of the heat but mainly the noise from outside. Screaming and shouting, dogs barking, emergency vehicles every 10 minutes, general traffic noise etc. until after midnight and then less frequently thereafter. However, I asked next morning if we could move rooms. A helpful receptionist moved us to a room at side of the hotel (facing other buildings) and this was quiet and actually bigger than original room. So well done hotel!. In truth, we would have had to move out if no other room was available. In common with many hotels in Northern Europe there is no air conditioning - the hotel should look at providing fans. Only toiletry provided was shampoo / soap bottle. Breakfast consisted of scrambled eggs, scrambled eggs with bacon specks and boiled eggs as well as small selection of cold meats, cheese, cereals etc. Good location - best restaurants are to the right of hotel and round the corner.
Stayed 3 nights. The staff were excellent and very helpful. The room was far too warm. Thats my problem- I dont like the heat. However the outstanding memory will be one of noise. Our room fronted out onto the main space at the side of the central station. There was incessant sirens by police and ambulance. There was the merry makers who seemed to last all night. There was the street musician who started his music at 6am? huh? Then there was the trains and the clanking and screaming / squealing brakes from all hours. A lot of sleep was lost which takes the shine of the day time activities. The shower bathroom was a bit on the small size but lots of lovely warm water. Breakfast was very good. Continental style of course. A good stay for someone less aged and grumpy than me. lol. Right in the middle of the transport hub. Loads of eating places, etc. But Hamburg is a great city. My better half booked this, next time we will be out in the quiet countryside with a/c in the room. lol.
Just a walking distance to the central station of Hamburg. The reception was fast. The elevator/lift was so old school and it is a wow! 😍😍 The room was small but it was comfortable for both of us. The clealiness is okay. I have no issue with noise. My room is at level 5. The bathroom was super huge. The shower and shampoo gel was so good! The breakfast spread was modest and as Muslims, we don't have issues with it. And in fact, this hotel area is very near to many Muslims eateries. Maybe the only two things that are so-so were my window's view and there is not free mineral water provided. Overall it was comfortable experience for both of us. Would recommend this place to budget conscious travelers that need comfortable place to bunk in for few days.
I had a solo one night stay recently. As I was travelling around the country by train its location just over the road from Hamburg main station was ideal. The room was slightly dated but comfortable and functional. A little warm in the heat and no fan was provided, however my window faced a side street so noise wasn't too much of a problem through the night. Breakfast was the usual continental affair with plenty of things on offer, no problems at all.
Directly opposite main train station. Our large room was on the road but with the windows shut we hardly heard any noise. The staff were helpful, breakfast was decent. Only real negative is the room was very hot and we had no fan.
We stayed here for 3 nights in late May. We booked a small double room, and that is what we got, so no problems there. It was clean and the shower was good, and there was a strong wifi signal. However, our room was at the front of the hotel, overlooking the Hauptbahnhof, and because the weather was warm (about 18-22 degrees) and the room was also really warm, we needed to have the window open all night, and it was very noisy, especially Saturday and Sunday nights. To be honest, having the window shut didn't make a whole lot of difference to the noise level. Breakfast was good, with friendly staff. The staff at reception were, with one exception, barely polite. The hotel is in a great location, right by the main station, and the hop on-hop off buses go from there too. However, you do pay for that location with noise. I would love to visit Hamburg again but would try another hotel.
This location for the gay scene is absolutely fabulous. It is in walking distance to almost everything. But at the arrival was not at all pleasant. The lady at the front desk didn't even asked if there was spoken another language than German .. she only spoke in German and I did not understood so much !!
We spent one night in the hotel, it is in the very center and allows you access whatever you are looking for in the city. Receptionists were a bit unpolite during checkin and checkout for no reason. The bed was good!
The hotel is located next to the main train station and close to the must see sights of the city. Spacious and clean rooms. The breakfast buffet has a large variety of food - the quality is rather average, though. The reception staff do not seem to be very entusiastic about their jobs.
