The staff of the Van der Valk Hotel Haarlem is very friendly and obliging. My room was a comfortable double room with a big TV, a very nice bathroom and separate toilet. The food was good and the buffet had a big variety of dishes. But the maintenance noise during the meals were quite annoying and disturbing.
We stayed here because of the flight cancellation so we had no say on the room types,etc. Food was also included in the meal. The hotel is being refurbished and we stayed in the new section (restaurant & reception within the refurbished / old section). The hotel room was very nice and spacious. We enjoyed a very restful night and was very comfy and they've done a good job with the design of the room! The steak served for dinner was very good and we enjoyed every bit of it and they also packed us our breakfast. Despite everything going right from room to meal, they clearly couldn't have chosen the most unhelpful (borderline hopeless) a middle aged gentleman to stay up for the graveyard shift. Very incompetent especially when our taxi hadn't shown up, he thought it was a joke and was taking his own sweet time chatting with his mate over the phone (this was at 6.15am - when the taxi was supposed to have picked us at 5.30am) for our 7am+ flight. KLM had arranged for the hotel to book us the taxi in the first place! There were 12 stranded passengers altogether so you can imagine the stress level. Because of the circumstances that we were in and the reason for staying in this hotel, it was quite a stressful situation. If you are otherwise staying for leisure purposes, I would recommend this place and if you're unfortunate like me, then just be aware that you have to be on your toes when dealing with front desk especially if it's at the early hours of the morning.
First of all: I'd probably stay at the Van der Valk again when construction is over. At the moment they are renovating one wing of the hotel and it can get noisy. As a sorry we received a voucher for two free drinks at the bar which I thought was a nice touch. But: maybe due to construction (?) the power was cut in the evening so the bar was closed and we couldn't get the drinks. Also, Wifi didn't work because of this and we needed to book our next hotel so we ended up going to a coffeeshop in the morning to find wifi. Not the best service for the money we paid. The staff were quite rude and not helpful at all, also when inquiring about normal things like the bus fare (5€ for the ride into the city center which is only one stop!). The big parking is free and a big plus. About the rooms: everything was perfect. Super clean, wonderful shower, comfortable bed and we got a room on the far end of the wing so couldn't hear anything from the ongoing construction. Only downside is the shared balcony with other rooms. Maybe put up separating walls or plants?
Nice and big room, clean. However, suggest people who are going to stay in the hotel to bring hair condiotioner, tissues and perhaps a bin for the toilets (separate from bathroom - information for ladies...). Very good breakfast. Hotel under renovation - noice accordingly - ask for a quiet room.
We had a meal, middle price class. For the money it was good, perhaps very good. The building is modern and the restaurant is o.k. But nit cosy. Enough free parking however. The staff was friendly and made us feel at home.
Stayed here for one night on a layover. The location is not great. It's a bit far out for the airport (25 mins taxi) as it is not on the train line and it is also not in the Town/City of Haarlem. An uber was €31 from the airport but a taxi was €60 back. There is a bus stop across the road and it was only €2:30 and 20 mins into Haarlem.The hotel is worn as earlier reviews indicate but it was clean and comfortable. Haarlem is a great alternative to Amsterdam, lovely park nearly by with a beach at the top (5miles from this hotel) and a clean safe centre had plenty of bars and restaurants. I would recommend looking for a hotel that was either on the train line for the airport or else in the city and Haarlem is the perfect alternative the hotel not so much!
The rooms are GREAT, big and newly renovated! We came late at night because of some airplain-trouble. The fact that the hotel looks so good on the outside and inside gives you certain expectations, Like a 24\7 room-service menu, or the oportunety to buy drinks or food, but NO. We had to order in some Turkish food, that came on a moped. Great Turkish food, but I think a hotel at this standard should offer something to their guests, even though its late??? We stayed here during a stormy night, and we slept with a open door to the outside. Fresh air, totaly quiet and very nice. A night to remember.
Grumpy staff at bar and breakfast, economy room is totally outdated and very hot (no airco or possibility to open a window), facing a busy road (noisy). No kingsize beds available, only in suites. Breakfast: only juice from concentrate, dry scrambled eggs. Dirty tablecloths.
Difficult for me to rate properly as I came here as a "stranded passenger" so i am not a paying customer. Its a nice, spacious hotel with pleasant staff and a relaxed atmosphere. It was slightly difficult ordering drinks at the bar last night and I had to keep going to find the barman every time I had finished my 330ml of beer, the only measure they seemed to serve. In the restaurant I was charged €3 but only €2,75 in the bar. I don't know how much it costs or whether there are currently reductions due to the building works going on, if not then that would be slightly disappointing. My room (403) was very nice, clean and spacious although the cleaning people woke me up at 9am by knocking on all the doors and announcing their arrival, even entering my room while I was "de-robed" so I would not recommend this place for anyone who likes a lie in. Still a very good hotel with high standard of English speakers.
Between March and May 2016 we stayed at the hotel on five occasions. We chose this hotel originally because it was close to Haarlem Hospital, and on a direct bus route from Shipol Airport. Rooms were top quality as was the whole environment of the hotel. The food was excellent with plenty of choice. The staff were so friendly, helpful and understanding on all our visits. We can only give the hotel and staff our highest recommendation.
