I booked here as I got what I thought a very good deal. I got a great rate on what I believed was meant to be a 4-star hotel. This is really a 3-star hotel, with only the prices being 4-star. This was by no means a bad hotel, but I think that if you paid full price you would be bitterly disappointed. The room was spacious with a great bed, huge! the bathroom was spacious but the tiling was outdated and a bit dirty. I thought that it could have done with a good refresh. The air-con was relatively ineffective until the early hours of the morning, and also very noisy if turned up above the minimum speed. The room was turned down daily, and while I was told that I would get fresh beach towels daily, at one point they were not changed for 3 days. The staff were friendly and willing to help, and they were the highlight of the stay. Everyone was polite and chatty, and always greeted you with a smile. The security guards were great and always happy for a chat. The pool was sufficient for a dip and surrounded in coconut palms. All food and beverages attracted a 10% service charge and 7% VAT, which is something you only see at the bigger establishments. My room rate was without the buffet breakfast, which at almost 500baht ($20AUD) a day, it was cheaper to eat elsewhere. The WiFi while free was very slow and would drop out on a regular occasion. I think that this hotel needs a good overhaul to take to what I believe was once its former glory. I would recommend you shop around before choosing this hotel.
We stay at the hotel 6 night and the service was very bad... We didn't have a WiFi 5 night every day the reception told us tomorrow the WiFi will be fixed, but nothing happened, the answer that we get from the manger bee was not helpful and she ignored us and send her stuff to smile and to do nothing..... Bad service, not clean etc.... don't choose this hotel
very good service at reception, Mr Ton answered all my emails, and booked a car for us to be met at the airport. The hotel also provides its own scooters for hire, and it is right in the centre of all the amienaties in Lamai
When we first got here we were given a room (313) which looked okay and smelled like mold and cigarettes. It also had an enormous step in the room. We are traveling with our 16 month old so I needed to switch rooms, which they accommodated (hence the generous 2 star rating). The second room (315) had about 400 mosquitos in it and only 2 small steps which was less dangerous than the previous room so we switched. No bellboys around to move luggage... it was a do it yourself sort of thing. Current room gets a (generous) D- for cleanliness. Lots of mold, cigarette burns, the bathtub needed to be scrubbed (by me of course - i just love doing the housekeeping on my vacations), rancid body odor smell in the closets, disgusting bathroom and counter tops throughout the room and bathroom, cracking and warped walls, they never washed the floors, changed the linens or fixed the blankets, occasionally changed the brown towels. A growing pile of garbage (pictured) accumulated outside of our room each day (sheer laziness on behalf of the hotel). No electricity and water which occurred daily for hours at a time with no warning, apology or solution from hotel (remember, traveling with a baby...). The toilet kept flushing (broken), terrible water pressure in the shower (when there was water), the shower did not drain so we had a pool in our bathroom after showering, they didn't replenish the shampoo or soap daily, I had to request it each time and they would only bring shampoo or a body wash, not some/one of each. They always gave us 2 towels for 3 people despite my repeated request that we needed 3 towels for 3 people. Breakfast was sparse with few choices, not well stocked or replenished (had to drag out the high chair myself, while holding baby, and it wasn't a high chair, it was a chair that was high up so it's just like a chair, but more dangerous. I bought a scarf to tie my baby to the chair). No mid meal clearing or service... it was a do it yourself kind of thing. The private beach was disgusting! It was filled with litter that the hotel should have been tending to but I am sure they were too busy in their meetings all day. No staff on the beach ensuring only guests are using hotel chairs so it was like a public beach only not maintained! The main pool area was clean but they just decided not to bother with the kiddie pool during our entire stay so it was a dirty bug pool. It was a whole meter which probably would have taken 6 minutes to clean but they were probably too busy for this. The wifi turned on and off and was unreliable. The hotel did accommodate our request for late check out (12:30 pm) which was nice. To sum it up: disgusted by the level of service and cleanliness at this hotel. Keep searching! You will overpay and be left very disappointed if you book here thinking you are going to be pampered. We would switch hotels in a heartbeat if we did not prepay.
In short if you are staying on chaweng choose another hotel. If you aren't bothered about staying in chaweng stay on bangrak beach or fishermans village. Stayed here for three nights and upon check in we were shown to our room where 1. The aircon was rattling making an extremely loud noise but was fixed temporarily and 2. After waiting in the room for this to be fixed we tried to put things in the safe before we went out, to discover the safe wasn't working ( and not secured to anything properly ) so had to wait in even longer for this to be fixed. We then had to have the aircon repaired on three separate occasions, one at 3am during the morning when it got quite loud. We tried the set meal on the beach on our second night to find we were eating raw chicken! After complaining we were offered a cocktail during happy hour. The meal was well over priced also at 550 baht plus taxes! Other places were offering this cheaper. Definitely not worth the money as meals in local restaurants are much nicer at a fraction of the price! The rooms also didn't feel as clean as other hotels that were not as expensive as this one either. To be fair to the receptionist she swapped our room on the last night but this didn't change our opinion of this hotel and we will not be returning.
One of the good hotels i have been at Thailand's.on the sea shor with clise sweeming pool.the cabanas are villas with the best facilities and close to water.the breakfast. Is o.k. the hotel is at the chaweng and near everything
I stayed at the Iyara for 4 nights. During my stay there, I think the maintenance workers spent more time in my room than I did. The air conditioner was broken for our entire stay. It either blew hot air or it blew frigid air that nearly froze me and my wife out of the room. The electricity went out. We had no water for a day and when the water did turn back on, it came out brown. I could go on and on about the lack of cleanliness. One of the more frustrating aspects was our attempt to talk to a manager about these issues. We continued to get the run around from the front desk staff. Every time we tried to find a manager they gave one excuse or another as to why they weren't available. This all could have been fixed if they just let us discuss our issues with the manager and let them find a proper solution to our problems. I saw the pretty photos on TripAdvisor and i read the 4 and 5 star reviews just like you. But do not be fooled and make the same mistake that i made. There are a bajillion hotels and resorts on the island. I'm confident that any one of them would be better than the Iyara.
My husband and I stayed at the Iyara from February 1-5, 2017 and had one of the worst Thai experiences we've had together thus far (we are no strangers to Thailand - this was my 5th trip and my husband's 9th trip; we've been to Chiang Mai, Hua Hin, Krabi, & Phuket together). During our short stay, our air conditioner broke 3 times, electricity went out 2 times, and we were left with absolutely NO WATER for an entire day. Because of the no water situation on our strip of rooms, the FD suggested we shower in a room that was vacant and waiting to be cleaned. We begrudgingly did as we were desperate to shower before a nice dinner, but of course, a worker almost walked in on us. Also, the "turn down service" never happened during our entire stay, and our beach towels were never changed - I had to personally walk up to the Front Desk to ask for new ones. As for cleanliness, I fortunately had Clorox Disinfecting Wipes and wiped everything down upon check-in, and I was grossed out as the bedside tables, desk, TV stand, coffee tables, and bathroom counters were incredibly dirty. After all of these issues, we tried talking to a manager 3 separate times to no success. The saving graces for this place were the staff (friendly and prompt), the beach, and prime location. However, my husband and I were very, very disappointed and would strongly advise not staying here if you're looking for a relatively nice vacation. I would shell out a bit more money and stay at a nicer resort.
Hotel was very nice rooms were massive and very clean. Pool area was nice We had a lot of rain when we were there but staff were helpful and rooms stayed dry Hotel restaurant was nice and clean and food reasonably priced
