Booked this one because its handy location, I knew it was a very old hotel but the reality still shocked me, bathroom and room really need refurbishment, too old, and it smelt like a smoking room although the room was non-smoking. The service at the reception was also bad, didn't care at all. The only good thing I can remember is that the river view room had a nice view, other than that, nothing worth recommending. There are tons of new and funky hotels in GZ, will not come again.
The hotel is very accessible since it's right near a metro and bus station in Haizhu square. I got to stay there in 2 different rooms for different prices. On the 20th floor it seemed really comfortable and modern. On the 7th, a little older and smaller. Breakfast was on the upper floor with a great view, but it was necessary to climb 2 flights of stairs after using the elevator. Breakfast itself was just OK, nothing great in terms of variety and taste. The staff was nice and helpful, answering my questions about surroundings and giving recommendations, but most of them do not speak good English. Also, for such size and amount of guests that come to the reception, there seems to be not enough receptionists, and I always had to wait in line to talk to them.
Overall, no complaints. This is a good three-star 351-guest rooms, non-smoking hotel. For the discounted price of about US$47 I got on Booking.com, I was satisfied with the overall features of the hotel. Staff are friendly and try to be helpful, but communication was somewhat of a challenge, since I can’t speak Chinese. Bed was comfortable, and the washroom facilities, although badly dated, everything worked as they should. The location is good if you want to spend a day or two going through Jewellery Exchange Wholesale Market and other nearby jewellery wholesalers, OneLink Plaza, GaoDi Jie Underwear Wholesale Market, BibBin Garment Market, and Shoes Wholesale Market. All are within a 10-minute walk from the hotel. Beijing Road with its many retailers and restaurants is about a 15-minute walk from the hotel.Walking through Haizhu Square and across the Haizhu Bridge takes you into the Wedding Clothing/Dresses Market. The hotel is frequented by tour groups. I got to the hotel by taking Line 2 of the subway/Metro to Haizhu Square Station, and going to Exit E.
Me & my Husband stayed in this property from 11th aug - 15 aug . On 11th on check in , they alloted an old Horrble room . It was changed after many requests & even this was was bit average against the price we paid . Yesterday on check out , Hotel people charged 180 RMB / 1800 INR forcefully from us !! Claiming that there is a small pen stain on sheet & behaved very badly with us . Will not stay in this property again & will suggest all not to stay here .
the hotel is in a very good location. just beside the haizhu sq metro station exit E. there are many eatery shops and haizhu wholesales market is just a few steps away. as u turn right from the hotel main door and across the street, there's a stretch of shops selling nice n cheap shoes. the only con is me n my mum were bitten by bedbugs on our last night in the room .we found one dead bedbug though.room is quite old and rundown. overall the service is so so. no one assist us at the lobby with our luggage though there is bellhop.

I went to Guangzhou last year and I went to Guangzhou hotel. The hotel is quite good with river view from our room. The receptionist are not fluent in english so I a little bit hard to check-in here. The hotel location is very good. Near MRT and Bus station to the airport. And there have many mall around the hotel. But overall this hotel is good
We spent 6 days at Guangzhou Hotel at Haizhu Square, in a suite. The best part is the location, it is located right next to subway station exit, at the most busy transport hub in the city, minutes from many wholesale markets. Out room has a front river view with 2 bridges which light up beautifully, one in rainbow constantly changing colors. It is a famous hotel, everyone knows it, but also 50 years old hotel, room condition is old, shower is not good, breakfast is poor. Service was older Chinese hotel style, good enough but not too friendly. There is no heater in the room, March is not cold, room is sort of chilly, temp controls don't have temp control, you can't have heat, only cool air. This is not good. First suite shower was old and cheap, couldn't get steady hot water, changed to a "new and remodeled" suite, which was also old, but at least shower was good enough. Sofas are heavy Chinese furniture, uncomfortable to sit on. We will stay here again, simply because the the location is super convenient for us.
This hotel centrally located and very convenient. The rooms are adequate in size but because of its age, it's also quite dated (especially in the standard rooms). The upgraded rooms are larger and have more modern amenities.
Located near a well connected tube line, and Beijing road pedestrian market. That's where the positives end. To begin with the hotel would not allow us to pay for our full stay (originally 5 nights) but insisted we would have to pay each day. Upon getting to our floor we were greeted by an awful stench of cigarettes, our room was exactly the same. The room itself had a gigantic bed, but features like the some of the lights did not work, and looked dated compared to downstairs. On our third night we heard constant shouting in the hallways, followed by someone ENTERING OUR ROOM while we were in bed, despite us shouting. The person I believe was a cleaner who also entered during the day. She didn't speak any english, but all she could muster was to point to the do not disturb sign, which should be a given at 10pm! We never did get an explanation. I suspect she was looking for a room that wasn't being occupied. Icing on the cake was when we saw one of the managers pin another member of staff against the wall in anger in front of many members of staff and customers! Luckily because we hadn't paid up front for the room we were able to leave earlier than planned. There's not much to do in Guangzhou anyway, apart from a few over priced pedestrian markets, a dodgy electronics market, and a safari park (which was good the only good thing we did) Would recommend staying away from the hotel and the city
