The Hotel Gollner is distinguished by an excellent breakfast, comfortable room and helpful staff. It is within relatively easy walking distance to the downtown sites. I especially appreciated that staff not only responded to my needs, but tried to anticipate how they might help -- like when they appeared with a ticket for the airport bus while I was sipping a beer and puzzling over how to get to my flight.
Stopped after a long days driving, Found this hotel on the roadside so took a chance. We got last room and found it to be absolutely brand new, paint still fresh. The staff spoke English and were exceptionally helpful , The room itself was pristine though quite basic. Breakfast was good. Room was more expensive than I expected .
pleasant staff, very basic room, no where near 4 star. cheap toiletries. plastic shower, thin towels. light bulb exploded when i turned on bathroom light, glass everywhere but they wouldn't find me another room so i had to wear my shoes in the bathroom. probably wont return.
I stayed for a few days in an apartment in the hotel. The room was very spacious, clean and modern. The apartment came with a covered terrace, which was perfect to enjoy a drink from the 24/7 open bar. Given the summer heat, the airco was very welcome. The bathroom included a steamroom shower, which was great for relaxation. The location of the hotel is very good to visit the old town, all landmarks are within walking distance. The staff was very friendly and very service oriented (coming out with an umbrella during a rain shower, pro-actively providing us with the tickets needed for parking). Wifi worked very well in the hotel and was for free. The breakfast is sumptuous and the outdoor breakfast area is very enjoyable in the morning.
Reception was nice, staff spoke English and were almost able to give directions without flaw. Room was nice - though I was there in summer and the room had no air-conditioning. A fan had to be requested from reception. The room had a minibar, which was a nice touch - however there were minimal toiletries in the bathroom. Bed was hard and pillows were old. Good location, walking distance to many sights as well as public transport. The booking did not include breakfast, however the hotel does provide with a fee.
It is a very good Hotel and indeed the restaurant is very very good. I liked the atmosphere and the very friendly staff. They really look after customers and try to fulfil every wish they can. I enjoyed my rather short stay and would definitely come back if I have to be in the regions one day again.
Hotel location is great for transport links, 3 min walk to Jakominiplatz: the transport hub where all major tram and bus routes seem to go through, and is central to Graz anyway being 10 min walk to the main square, Hauptplatz. The one disadvantage of this convenient proximity is the trams that may disturb your sleep but did not overly bother me. The hotel exterior has slight delusions of grandeur that are quickly lowered to the accurate 4 star rating when you enter the lobby which is slightly dated but functional. My room was the opposite, looking very recently and nicely modernised but not large. This matched the description that I had booked well. Breakfast varied and well done with generous opening hours. Laundry service quick and easy also. The excellent location confirmed to me that 4 star was the correct rating for the hotel and will be the rating I also give it for ticking all the boxes but with nothing that particularly impressed me. I would return, but there are better hotels in Graz for very similar money.
I recently stayed here when visiting Austria for the Formula 1 Austrian Grand Prix. There were 5 of us in total, staying in 2 rooms in the hotel. Firstly, I think Graz is the perfect place to stay for the Austrian Grand Prix. Having arrived on the Wednesday we were not surprised by the lack of F1 tourists as they wouldn't normally arrive until the Thursday or Friday but throughout the whole weekend we appeared to be the only F1 tourists in Graz. So where they all stay, I have no idea. But Graz is perfect - lots to see, lovely old town, some great bars and lots of open air eating. If thinking of going to the Grand Prix and it really is one of the better circuits for viewing, then my advice is to stay in Graz. The hotel itself was very quiet (inside) with very friendly and approachable staff on reception. We turned up en masse and were immediately guided to where the car park was (50 metres down the road on the right hand side) and given a ticket for cheaper parking. Rooms were reasonably large and very clean. There were two downsides - the lack of working air conditioning (or perhaps I was just too stupid to work out how it worked) and, partly as a result of no air con, a very noisy street with late night revellers eating at the kebab stall a few metres away plus street cleaning machines etc. When we were there in early July, the temperatures were above 30 degrees so we had to have the windows open. I can therefore only advise that when you book, ask for a room that's not facing the street. Other than that my only small gripe was that they were not too generous with the toiletries / shower gel etc. We didn't use any of the hotel facilities (sauna, breakfast etc.) but nice coffee was available 24 hours a day, and the front desk staff were great. In summary, Graz is a great place for a weekend, a brilliant place to stay if going to the F1 race, the hotel is clean, friendly and well located. Finally, the cafe diagonally opposite and the very small bar to the left of the hotel as you walk out the front door are both great places. Fantastic breakfast and coffee at the cafe (and very affordable); and good beer and friendly, talkative staff at the local bar.
Very nice hotel in a good location. Clean and comfortable bed. Windows were able to be opened but there was air conditioning if necessary. Having the window open during the night was not an option because traffic noise would be too loud but the windows were doubled so when closed it was very quiet. Room was big. Shower and toilet were in a glass fronted enclave - not a problem for me but it might be for some people. I took breakfast one day and it was extensive but I have a small appetite and at 16euro was really not a wise decision for me. I enjoyed the stay here but the cost was above what I would expect for a similar hotel elsewhere.
Visited for one night while on business in Graz. First impressions were the room was very small: a desk area, small clothes hanging area, single bed, and a small shower room with a clear glass door and not much room for moving. Pretty basic for a 4 star hotel. I could only find CNN on the television that was in English. No air conditioning in the room. In 31 degrees heat and in a 4 star hotel I'd expect air conditioning. I had to sleep with the windows open. Breakfast wasn't great for 16 euros. Wouldn't stay again.
