We had a wonderful times with our family at Smith Mountain Lake. Stoney Creek was a very nice home. the kitchen was incredibly well-stocked. This home does not provide towels, sheets, etc. I had brought kitchen towels but no oven gloves. You will need to bring those to. Our host, Jessica is the person I spoke with most of the time. She was wonderful to work with - very responsive and helpful. Captain Scott Dameron took us out on his pontoon boat for two days. This was our first trip to Smith Mountain Lake and not being familiar with the lake - we decided this was the best thing for our family. Contact Marina 66 if you need a boat or a Captain. The water at the dock is low. We will be back!!

Great property with low water
After a brief disconect at the check in process we were able to hook up with the rental angecy and get a good set of check in instructons. This was no ones fault as it is all about learning the system. The house was good as it was very nicely decorated and there was plenty of space for everyone. Little things like no grab bars in the showers or a hand rail at the stairway to the lake, kept this property from being great. The problem of 'low water' played into one of our jet skis injesting a stick and disabling it for the week. This condition is inherent with being at the end of a cove and the electric company doing water releases for hydro-elecric power. No fault of the property owner! We still had a great time getting the our family together. We all really loved the screened porch!

Summer 2024
House was awesome. Kids loved the loft and the air hockey table. The drought and low water level at the dock was unfortunate, and out of anyone's control, but we were still able to dock the boat without too much trouble. All in all, a fabulous vacation.

Serene Weekend Getaway
We enjoyed this house as a weekend getaway. The rooms and furnishings were very clean and in good condition (except the oven - see below). The house is in an isolated location on a side channel of the lake, and you can't see or hear boat traffic on the main channel of the lake. There are a couple of neighboring houses that you can see as you sit on the dock, but if you're looking for isolation, this is a great choice.
We used the two kayaks, and paddled out to the main part of the lake. The floating dock made it easy to launch the kayaks. We also enjoyed spending nights by the firepit on the water.
There were a few relatively minor drawback to the house.
* The driveway is very steep. It wasn't a problem in good weather, but I wouldn't attempt to drive on it if there was snow or ice.
* Several of the steps on the back lawn down to the water were loose, so you need to be careful as you walk down to the dock.
* Several people in my group said the water from the sinks and showers had an odor to it, but I didn't notice it.
* The propane tanks for the grill were empty. There were instructions on where we could get replacements (and be reimbursed for the expense), but we didn't have time to make the drive to fill them up. We then tried to cook in the oven, but there was some residue in the bottom of the oven that smoked up the house when we turned it on. We ended up using the cooktop instead.
Overall this was a great location for an enjoyable weekend.

CLEAN Home
Great clean home with all the kitchen accessories you would need. Great peaceful dock and screened in porch. Our only disappointment was the low water levels at the dock. Couldn’t really do any swimming and when docking the boat we had to trim the motor. Overall the home was great!

Pretty and clean, but not ideal
The house was a beautiful home and well maintained. A few small things if we’re being nit-picky but overall a pleasant area and home. Pros were the home’s well stocked kitchen, beautiful decor and spacious rooms. The decks were great and made for a relaxing outdoor area even in bad weather. The provided kayaks and paddle board were awesome as well! Cons…initially the sewage smell was pretty bad. The maintenance folks left a note saying it should resolve itself if we ran water and flushed toilets, which for the most part it did. The tv/WiFi available in the home is awful. It worked ok for the first day/day and a half and got worse and worse as the week went. No service at all when it was raining or overly cloudy. Not ideal if you need to work while away, which is stated as a perk in the listing. The ice maker and water from the refrigerator seemed to be frozen and not working. We managed with bottled water and didn’t notice until day two or three so we didn’t bother calling maintenance. The swimming area was probably the most disappointing feature. The water was about 2’-3’ deep by the dock and EXTREMELY muddy. It was hard to even stand. Also the property is listed as a great place to bring a boat and/or jet ski. This would be accurate if the driveway was set up for trailer turn around. This was realized very very quickly as we went down the narrow, curvy driveway. The turn around area would be fine for just a vehicle but when you’re hauling a 21’ boat, not so much.
