We spent two nights at the hotel and thoroughly enjoyed it. Our room needed some TLC but the wonderful view from our balcony over the Forest more than made up for it. The food and service were good and Reception staff were very helpful. We took an early morning Asiatic Lion safari which was a waste of time and money. Our guide wasn't interested and spent the whole journey talking to the driver. This is not the hotel's fault but we wanted to warn future safari goers.
I had booked a deluxe suite for our stay in feb. The suite actually had 2 bedrooms and a living room. It was quite spacious, which was good since we were 3 people. It was not quite clear to me at the time of booking that the suite will have 2 bedrooms, so it was a nice surprise to see 2 bedrooms. The hotel is also located conveniently to the forest information center, so getting permits and gypsy for the Safari is convenient. The entrance to the forest reserve is also close. There is also an alligator conservation park right next to the hotel, which is also an inter attraction. The food in the restaurant is amazing and the service is even better. Appu and Zahid in the restaurant take excellent care of you from the moment you are in the restaurant and are helpful even for anything else you need. Highly recommend for your stay in Gir!
My name is Neerav Aggarwal and I recently stayed here and had an amazing experience. The main reception area of the Gir forest is right outside so the hotel is conveniently located The staff at the hotel is amazing as well and always ready for help if you need. A wonderful family hotel with all the amenities you need to unwind, relax and enjoy the wilderness around. I would highly recommend this hotel to anybody going to Gir I am already booked here to come again in October 3018
We booked an Executive Suite With Sitout area. It was on the ground floor and it was apparent on arrival that the room was in need of refurbishment. It was also very dirty with blood on the light switch and stains on the upholstery. (photos with review) We did not know at the time that the rooms on the upper two floors were all refurbished. (we had spoken to someone on the morning we were leaving and was told their room was lovely and they paid a lot less than we did) The food was buffet and as there were not many people in the hotel we found we had to eat as soon as the food was put out as it was left for two hours + and that is not good. On the positive side the hotel is in a perfect location for the Gir forest and can be reached in 5 minutes. All in all very disappointed with the room when there was better rooms that we could have been checked into. Cost was INR51,840 for three nights - thats over £550 and just under US$800. RIP OFF
We are extremely disappointed with the stay at Taj Gateway Gir.. It's par below the standards of Gateway properties. To start with 1. There were no bathrobes , slippers, shaving kit in the bathroom. We had to keep asking for these. However, the slippers were never given 2. The bathrooms were stinking. Some one in the adjacent room was smoking and the entire smell was in our bathroom. Even while some one was using the bathroom we had bear the brunt of it. 3. The fitness centre was not even close to be called as a fitness centre. There wasn't just two treadmill n a cycle and no one to attend. 4. We were told the is no steam. However, we later found that there was steam in the spa 5. The buffet was very basic. In non veg there was only one dish, that too mutton. There was no chicken. 6. The buffet breakfast too wasn't as good as it was supposed to be of Taj standard. There was no sausages/bacon. We had to enquire individually n then they served us. There wasn't any menu either mentioning what all would be the for buffet.
With very good location and very polite and efficient staff, The Gateway Hotel Gir Forest is place to spend a memorable weekend. The Gateway is scenic, quiet and a lovely spot. Staff in particular Mr. Aladad, Apu, Yunus made our stay very comfortable and took personal care. Suggestion to take a train ride to Kansiya Ness was a great experience and with courtesy extended to us by making arrangements for to and fro transport to reach the railway station is greatly appreciated. It is these individuals who sustains the brand. Taj. Even with the limitations of the place Sasan itself, the buffet options were many and the quality of food was excellent. Live folk music with candle light dinner and great ambience, we thoroughly enjoyed our evenings. So as the breakfast with live flute music played by the folk artist. Will sure to visit the place again
We recently stayed at this place for one night at this hotel. We found out that this property is old, rooms were small and small bathroom. Staff was always in welcoming mode, but we ask for some thing, they would not be able to help for various reasons. Buffet breakfast was just typical Indian buffet breakfast. You have to take a stair to go to second floor. We did not find this hotel very welcoming to our liking.
One of the best properties in Gir. Very courteous staff, make you feel at home. Very close to the animal hospital so can hear animals at night time. The rooms on the upper level have great views. Food was good as was the spread. Has a river on the back side but part of the forest, so be careful when taking walks along the bank. Rooms are very spacious. More much to do in terms of activity but stay can be very relaxing. Highly recommended. The hotel cannot help in booking the safari so ensure that it is done before you get to Gir specially in season. They provide packed breakfast in case you need to leave early & is quite filling.
The Gateway is a scenic, quiet, lovely spot with balconies that overlook a pretty view; pleasant, clean, well appointed rooms; and excellent restaurant with both indoor and outdoor seating. Breakfast and dinner had Rajisthani musicians on the veranda which added to the local feel. Really wonderful freshly made chappatis were a treat and Zahid was particularly pleasant and helpful at our meals. Our two safaris to see the endangered Gir Lions (only 530 +/- left), resulted in not seeing them, although our driver and guide were obviously knowledgable about the forest and flora and fauna and we saw many other species.
We stayed here with three generations of the family during our visit from the United Kingdom. The hotel is very well located within the walking distance of the Gir National Park. The rooms were spacious and comfortable, with a beautiful view over the forest. The buffet food was very good, too. One thing that really stood out about this hotel is its staff: they were all very kind and extremely accommodating to various requests we have made. Thank you very much for your hospitality.
