The Gateway Hotel Gir Forest5.0 out of 5.0

The Gateway is a scenic, quiet, lovely spot with balconies that overlook a pretty view; pleasant, clean, well appointed rooms; and excellent restaurant with both indoor and outdoor seating. Breakfast and dinner had Rajisthani musicians on the veranda which added to the local feel. Really wonderful freshly made chappatis were a treat and Zahid was particularly pleasant and helpful at our meals. Our two safaris to see the endangered Gir Lions (only 530 +/- left), resulted in not seeing them, although our driver and guide were obviously knowledgable about the forest and flora and fauna and we saw many other species.
We stayed here with three generations of the family during our visit from the United Kingdom. The hotel is very well located within the walking distance of the Gir National Park. The rooms were spacious and comfortable, with a beautiful view over the forest. The buffet food was very good, too. One thing that really stood out about this hotel is its staff: they were all very kind and extremely accommodating to various requests we have made. Thank you very much for your hospitality.
The location cannot be beaten if you want a good hotel close to the Sasan Gir National Park. The rooms are a good size - unfortunately ours overlooked the coach park. Most overlooked a river (our river view was blocked by a couple of large trees). Given the quality of the hotel, they were a little tight on supplies of coffee but were very generous with bottled water. The shower room/ toilet was okay but did not have any hand towels - we were provided with flannels and bath towels but nothing of a size in between. The food selection was okay but not brilliant but the staff were all very helpful. Whilst the hotel itself does not sell alcohol, there is a liquor store on site where you can buy beer, wine and spirits to be drunk in the comfort of your room. To buy these you do have to get an alcohol licence, which the liquor store can provide - they will need to see your passport and have confirmation from the hotel that you are a guest there. This was all sorted relatively easily. There is a lack of things to do between safaris here, other than a very nice swimming pool. Spa facilities were offered. The village is only ten minutes walk away and there is a crocodile exhibit nearby but realistically we were using this as a base to go on safari to see the Asiatic lions - and on both safaris we saw some.
The Gateway Hotel is close to the Gir National Park access point. It is a quiet, comfortable hotel. Its decor is a calm scheme with safari photos and antique framed embroidery. Spotlessly clean rooms with balconies, and large showers are available. Breakfast is available after your early morning safari, as is lunch and a post-afternoon safari excellent dinner. The food and the service were fantastic.
The Gateway Hotel is a five-star full service luxury hotel with by far the finest and most peaceful location in Sasan Gir. Highly recommended! The Gateway hotel is superior in every way. Clean A/C rooms with views of the forest, a lovely swimming pool, delicious and varied food (and I ate there morning noon and night for two weeks and did not get dissatisfied), a relaxing lobby with lots of interesting and seldon-read books on Indian wildlife, a beautiful upstairs lounge overlooking the forest, and the kindest and most attentive staff I have experienced in a long while. The staff are polite, gentle and extremely attentive. I enjoyed their company and attention while I stayed at the hotel. Five stars in every way. I stayed at the Gateway for nearly two weeks as part of a business trip to Gujarat. Our work site was nearby, so Sasan Gir was the best bet for accommodations. The VILLAGE of Sasan Gir is a typical and unspectacular place that happens to be located directly adjacent to the Gir Forest. There are a variety of hotels along the road TO Sasan Gir that market themselves as "luxury". My guess is that they are for tourists who want to visit and depart quickly, saying they visited the park, without enjoying the peace and comfort of the wilderness. Stay at the Gateway! This lovely hotel is THROUGH the center of Sasan Gir, heading into the park on a long driveway that takes one to a lovely location overlooking the forest. The noise and clamor of Sasan Gir village is not audible, but one may walk there if one wants to eat out, etc. This hotel has by far the best location in Sasan Gir. Please note that I stayed at the hotel in the off season, so some nights myself and my party were the only guests, and we felt like royalty! The staff remembered our tastes and preferences for meals, and we felt relaxed and peaceful. If you are coming to Sasan Gir and Gir National Park, I would not stay anywhere else. The park was closed, so I could not go on safari and cannot comment on the safari experience. However, lions are on occasion visible from the road leading up to Sasan Gir. P.S.: the Gateway Hotel should NOT be categorized as a "B&B/Inn" in TripAdvisor: that is ridiculous. It is a full service, five star hotel.
The Gateway hotel, Gir Forest is at a distance of about 400 kms from Ahmedabad, Gujarat. I drove down from Ahmedabad via Rajkot , Gondal, virpur and Junagadh. Few important points: 1) drive to Gateway is comfortable barring a stretch of about 2 kms - just before this property. That’s because of the jungle / wildlife and speed breakers ! Although a small property with just around 20 plus rooms, these rooms are perfect for a comfortable stay! The chef out there is amazing! You will relish some simple yet tasty food ! Special attraction is Gujarati “peacock thali”!! This property has a decent sized pool, sit outs and river side walks - apart from vehicles available on rent for sight seeing / visit to lion safari / Devalia( interpretation zone). 100% value for money and life time memorable experience !!
No Activities and old rooms & furniture On Arrival given Juice & Sandwich which was offered as complementary but was charged ,it is also not good. TT bats provided are broken and there are no activities for kids.
The property is right next to the core jungle and Steward at hotel would share CCTV clipping of a Leopard that came inside the property gate in he night. No human attacks have ever been reported, so enjoy the place in a guided fashion.
It was our first visit to sasan Gir, the climate was good and the hotel is located just besides the Gir Safari. Lots of greenery all around. A Lake flowing nearby. We thoroughly enjoyed the jungle safari, saw a majestic Lion. The hotel staff is very friendly and food is tasty.
Good spacious property with excellent service and well-maintained rooms. This property is next to a river and has good views. We were a group of two families, each with a 4yr old kid. All of us enjoyed the property. We drove down from Vadodara(Gujarat) to Gir. Ample parking is available. The property has good green open spaces. Enjoyed the swimming pool as well, it was clean and well maintained. The hotel is just a 5 minute walk from the government office where you can obtain permits and start the Lion safari. It is recommended to obtain permits in advance. They can be arranged online. Restaurant was nice and food offered was excellent. We had opted for a all-meals included package. Food was freshly prepared and tasted well. The staff is very helpful, courteous and professional. Recommend to stay here on your visit to Gir.
