Ice machine didn’t work. No cold water in bathroom sink. Lightbulbs missing in bathroom fixture. No stopper in tube-wouldn’t even take a shower here. Air conditioner sounded like a plane taking off. Screens ripped-couldn’t open windows for much needed fresh air. Windows filthy. Drapes falling off rod. Old mattresses left outside. Sink thrown in planter box. Thought it would be fun to stay at an old Route 66 Motel—WRONG with this one. Don’t waste your hard earned money.
Do not stay here. The owner wants only cash. Which should have been the first red flag! This motel should not be on any web find. Got into the room very bad smell. The air conditioner didn't work. Spent a whole 2 minutes in this hell hole! We try to give our business to small business owners. This was the worst 59.00 spent. Again be advised do not stay here. Would not refund our mone
There are dozens of motels to choose from along Old Route 66 in Gallup, but my wife and I always make it a point to stay at the Desert Skies Motel when vacationing in western New Mexico. I really like the classic Route 66 feel and retro 1950s/60s era architecture of this motel. This is your classic motor hotel that you would find along the highway back in the 50s or 60s before the ubiquitous chain motels came to dominate the landscape. I especially like the awesome neon sign out front and the aqua blue doors on the rooms. Takes you back to a simpler more interesting time. Now, to the facilities: The room and bathroom were clean and well kept. The air conditioning worked well and the water pressure for the shower was good. The beds were clean and comfortable. There is a small refrigerator and microwave oven in the room. The property is quiet and relaxing. Also, the motel is on the main drag in town (Route 66) and is convenient to food and shopping. (Hint: Blake's Lotaburger is right down the street for one of the best green chile cheeseburgers in New Mexico!) In summary, we'll continue to make the Desert Skies our choice of accommodations when in the Gallup area!
Awful and disgusting!!!!!! We paid our stay just arrived, went to the room and surprise! A disgusting and dusty hole!!! As if it would not have been cleaned in 5 years..smelly, dusty, dirty.. disgusting bed sheets and pillow. After 2 minutes in the room, we complained in the reception about the standard and dirt. We have been told that not refunds are done, which was also writen in capital leters as I am pretty sure I am not the first one. Finally we left and paid for another motel for the same price which was clean. There are plenty of motels around, do not bother with this disgusting one!
The online photos looked OK, but my 1st impression on arrival was that the place is outdated. Things did not improve thereafter. I couldn't get into the room until the manager showed me his special technique (yank the handle hard, then wrench the key round, hoping it won't break). The next problem came when we tried the fridge; it didn't work and nor did the microwave. The problem was 'just' a power socket failure. By this time we were asking for a different room, but the manager insisted on moving the fridge and microwave across the room. OK, so now they worked, but we no longer had sockets to charge our devices! Further to all that, the toilet lid hinge was broken and the curtains didn't close properly. In short, we would not recommend this motel.
Great small town motel with friendly employees that make you feel right at home. And they make sure u have everything u need to make your stay relaxing and comfortable and they treat you like family and dont complain about small stuff like most hotels nowadays
First of all rates are supposed to be 25.00. I could see paying 25 bucks for the room. I didn't feel safe outside. Actually read a review and went to check on my car afterwards. The roof had water damage. I felt like the sheets...just be careful. The a/c was loud but it was cool in the room beds are very firm. Everything needs to be updated. Bathroom look like i was from a 3rd world country. Sink with a tile counter and legs. Bathtub was off white not supposed to be. Won't be back here.
trying to save on hotel as traveler rn, unsecure, nut case of manager, calls police on guests and yells at them-too much family work there, never ans phone, strange people walking around at nite trying to get into rooms,no one knows phone # asked for extra pillows-unstained and towels never got them, maid? said cant give them out! as crappy as they were, lasted way to long moved on after 4 horrible nights
The staff seemed nice however the room condition was poor. Only half of the outlets in the room worked, there were 2 outlets. The room had an old musty/moldy smell with some small holes in the wall and ceiling. I wouldn't be surprised if this place closes soon like others on this strip. The bed was not very comfortable, the motel is not in the best part of town and felt somewhat unsafe sleeping here. The room had a refrigerator and microwave, however I had to move them across the room to plug them in to one of the only outlets available. The train was not a problem for me, also the owners seemed nice, but because of the other reasons and feeling unsafe I would not stay here again.
Historic Route 66 Experience here means the heater gurgles and the sound of freight trains running all night long. I slept with ear plugs and had no problems, my wife slept without and she had a good night. The train sounds added to the experience. But if noise is a problem, best stay away from Route 66 in Gallup or I40 for that matter.
