My early check-in was handled very nicely by hotel staff. Housekeeping from day to day was inconsistent. The included continental breakfast would appeal to many people, but it would have been great if it had included some local flavour. I always felt welcome.

Arrived to find we had to climb steep stairs to get to front desk, then more to get to room (no elevator). Hallway had a very strong, unpleasant scent. Room had a phone that didn't work (and needed cleaning); a lamp between the beds that didn't work; no working extractor fan in the bathroom. Furniture and décor was old and shabby, although mattress and bedding seemed okay. Top half of bathroom door was open louvres. Who wants a bathroom door with open slats? If you like some privacy, don't stay here. If you have mobility issues, don't stay here. We complained about the non-working phone and found out they had been told about it that morning (a staff member told us that it was "in the wiring in the wall"); all we were told was there was nothing they could do about it. Saying "free calls to anywhere in North America" doesn't mean much with no working phone. The binder in the room said free coffee 24/7 in the lobby. No coffee. Told we could get some in the attached bar lounge until 10:00 (but not free). The A/C was tricky; worked on and off and was very loud when it did come on. The binder says anything you have an issue with, just let them know. However, all you get is "Sorry" and there's "nothing we can do". They were "having some issues with some rooms". In that case, don't rent out those rooms until you fix the issues and update your information so the customer knows exactly what to expect. No way did the photos and description match the reality.

Thank you for your feedback. I can understand that you would be frustrated with things not working. Maintenance for any property is an ongoing task, and with an older building, such as our motel, it's a particular challenge. When we are aware of things not working, we take measures to fix or replace them. Unfortunately, it's not always immediate, because we're dependent upon the timetables of repairmen for things like telephones, and - as I'm sure you've experienced in your own home - it's rare that assistance is available on the same day. In looking at the amenities of other hotels and motels, I see that elevators are usually listed. I don't believe it's common practice to list amenities that are NOT available. Our staff are always happy to help you with your luggage - I'm sorry you struggled with getting it up the stairs. I have made a comprehensive list of the things you've mentioned that were broken or not working well, and will pass this on to our maintenance department and our owner (although it's a good chance that they have already been noted and acted upon). I'm sorry that there was a smell in your hallway that you found unpleasant. I hope you mentioned the odour while you were here, so we could try to pinpoint its origin. Our rooms ARE routinely put out of order until necessary maintenance is completed, but issues such as finicky air conditioning don't always necessarily come to light during a routine check. We're dependent upon our guests to make us aware of issues that arise during their stay. Thank you for letting us know.
