WHAT'S NEARBY
The region surrounding Alma Chakana is rich in natural wonders and Mayan heritage — from ancient ruins to crystal-clear cenotes and immersive cultural experiences.
Cenotes — Natural freshwater sinkholes scattered throughout the jungle, some within walking or cycling distance. Swimming in a cenote is one of the most memorable experiences the Yucatan has to offer.
Azulik Uh May — Minutes away, this eco-artistic immersive museum blends contemporary art, organic architecture, and Mayan spirituality in a breathtaking jungle setting. A one-of-a-kind sensory experience.
Tulum — 35 minutes away, the iconic clifftop Mayan ruins overlooking the Caribbean Sea, and some of the most beautiful white-sand beaches in Mexico, are well worth a half-day trip.
Cobá Ruins & Mayan Village — About 35 minutes away, Cobá is one of the few archaeological sites where you can still climb to the top of the main pyramid, deep in the jungle. The nearby Mayan village offers an authentic look at local culture, crafts, and traditions.
Chichen Itzá — One of the Seven Wonders of the Modern World, roughly 2 hours away. A full-day trip well worth the drive.
Wildlife Sanctuary — A nearby refuge for local wildlife, managed with care and respect for the animals. A great outing for families and nature lovers.
Mayan Gastronomy — Local restaurants and markets serve authentic regional cuisine: cochinita pibil, sopa de lima, fresh tortillas, and traditional recados. Eating local here means supporting the surrounding Mayan communities.
WHAT TO KNOW BEFORE YOU BOOK
Alma Chakana is fully immersed in the jungle. Pathways are open-air, wildlife is present daily — toucans, monkeys, parrots — and small insects come with the territory. Non-venomous scorpions may appear; shaking out shoes is a good habit here.
This property is best suited for guests who are comfortable with genuine nature immersion. Air conditioning is not available; the home relies on natural ventilation and fans.
