Situated in an idyllic location with direct access to the Caledonian Canal and stunning views of Ben Nevis and Aonach Mor mountain range, these detached lodges (refs W8146 and W8664) make an ideal holiday base for touring the Highlands and the west coast of Scotland. Fort William is known as the ’outdoor capital’, and is home to the World Mountain Bike Championships, Excellent climbing, skiing, snowboarding, mountain biking and walking are popular outdoor pursuits. Golf fishing, kayaking and sailing are also available nearby. The area is famous for its breath-taking scenery, used as a backdrop in many film, including Braveheart, Rob Roy and the Harry Potter movies. Many of the islands including Skye, Mull and Iona can be reached by short ferry crossings and the steam train to Mallaig makes for a great day out. Für maximal 4 Personen geeignet, aber recht beengt. Es gibt keinen Tisch, an dem man gemeinsam die Mahlzeiten einnehmen kann - was man in einem Selbstversorgerhaus erwarten können müsste! Außerdem fehlt weitestgehend die Möglichkeit, etwas zum Trocknen aufzuhängen. Bei kaltem Wetter haben die beiden kleinen Elektro-Heizkörper Mühe, das Haus warm zu bekommen. Grundsätzlich ist die Stromversorgung nicht optimal: man benötigt genügend 1-Pfund-Münzen, um nicht plötzlich im Dunkeln zu sitzen (täglich 3 Pfund sollte man durchaus einkalkulieren, wenn man kocht, duscht und ein warmes Haus haben möchte).
Die Lage ist recht zentral und dennoch sehr ruhig und schön - mit Blick zum Ben Nevis. Alles in allem ist das Häuschen für einen 1-wöchigen Aufenthalt durchaus attraktiv, für kleine Kinder ist es aufgrund der Wendeltreppe jedoch nicht zu empfehlen.
