Candlewood Suites Fort Wayne2.5 out of 5.0

We stayed at this hotel just passing through Fort Wayne on a weeknight. The receptionist was very pleasant and efficient. We were pleasantly surprised at our unit. (We’ve stayed at many Candlewood Suites in the past that were a little run down). The unit was literally immaculate, furnishings very nice, paint perfect, etc. Full sized fridge, microwave, dishes, flatware provided. This place is definitely a cut above from your usual CS. One minor complaint is the anemic hairdryer. Barely any airflow. The hotel is right off the expressway and there’s Costco right across the street.
We stopped here for one night on a short weekend trip. Wow is all l can say. The room was crazy big. The total bill for 2 adults and 1 child was $190.37. They had everything you could want in this room. A queen size bed, closet, desk, dresser, and tv in the bedroom. In the living room was a pull out couch, tv, reclining chair, tables. They had a kitchen area with a big fidge, stove, dishwasher, sink, counter area that could be used as a table to eat around. Bathroom was great. Shower was wonderful. They had a pool also. Will go back next time l'm in the area.
I think I would have been happier if we would have gotten the room we reserved which was a 1 bedroom suite. Instead we got a studio, when I brought to attention when we checked in he said they were all taken. That is what I reserved and paid for.... what do you do? Take all your stuff and move? We reserved 2 rooms and my daughter's room had a cover over the top of the recliner chair... kinda creepy. Sheets on bed were so "pilled" and rough that we had to sleep on the top sheet. Kitchen facilities are nice, especially the refridge, all mismatched dishes. They did provide the extra pillows when we asked. Nice pool area and it was clean. Am making another trip to Fort Wayne in couple of weeks, staying somewhere else due to not honoring my reservation.
So they're definitely not to blame for the power outage, but even without it, there's not a load of positives to say about this property. It's in an OK location (good if you're stopping for the night from travel on I-69). The rooms are not terrible, but the bed was average at best, the pillows were far too soft, and the noise level from other rooms and the hallway were far too much. Oh, and it's not too expensive. But next time I'm in the area, I'll pay a bit more and stay at the Hampton. At least I get breakfast there.
We started here because they had a recliner in the room, which I need. We weren't sure from the website, but Derick confirmed what we needed on the phone. When we arrived, the recliner was broken, but Jermaine promptly found another one and brought it in. Outstanding staff at this place. Wheelchair access is excellent (a welcome change) -- aisles on both sides of the bed, roll-in shower, and other items.
I generally stay at Candlewood properties because the rooms are nice, they are conveniently located and most importantly they have a full kitchen if I decide that I want to cook for myself rather than eating out. This Candlewood property provided the standard Candlewood experience. The only downside to my stay was that the WiFi was PAINFULLY slow (think dial up speed) which made it impossible for me to get any work done. Even though the property was nice and the staff was friendly, I will probably stay somewhere else the next time I am in Fort Wayne due to the poor WiFi service at this location.
The morning of my check out, I had ran out of coffee. In desperate (but yet sleepy!) need, I stepped outside of the door to see a housekeeper. I asked if she had any I could get. Not only was she very polite, but nice welcoming smile as well. She stood out to me. As I went to walk away I made note of her name tag. It read the name "Heather" Later that day, as I was loading my belongings onto the elevator, another young lady was also more than willing to help me with my bags. I'd just like to say thank you to those ladies for making my stay very warm and welcoming!
This hotel has ZERO cameras to protect the safety / security of their guests! They have ONE camera facing their locked front office for THEIR safety while the guests are left totally disregarded and on their own. I WOULDN'T EVEN RECOMMEND THIS HOTEL TO SOMEONE I HATED!!!
If you want a hotel with a few amenities and a bed to sleep in this is the place for you. We only stayed one night, but could easily have spent a week with the available stove, microwave and full fridge in the room. Great location close to everything!
stayed here by recommendation of the IHG customer service lady, rate was $88 state govt rate.....never stayed at a Candlewood, so we gave it a try. Rode up, outside canopy over entrance was falling apart, checked in, got to room, it was clean at least. It was a 1 bedroom suite with the bedroom separate from living room/kitchen. Took a shower, drain didn't drain, bathroom fan inoperative and recliner in living room was broke. the ac/heater operates from a thermostat like most hotels today but the unit was in the living room and to get cool air to the bedroom a small fan (8-10") mounted in the wall at the ceiling height, drew cool air form the other side and then blew it into the bedroom. What the hell is that? You would have to keep the temp set at 60 to even get it to cool to 70 in the bedroom. I finally complained enough between the night shift girl and the guy working in the am to get my rate dropped $30.............it was still too high, pillows were short and fat. free wifi was pretty pathetic also, very spotty when you would have service. NOT AGAIN WOULD I STAY THERE
