Nice mountain getaway

The location of this property is excellent. It’s within walking distance of downtown Ft. Payne. It’s a short drive to beautiful State Parks and waterfalls. About an hour to Chattanooga, TN which is a nice day trip.

No central heat. Not private. Electrical issues.

This listing should be removed from VRBO. The host is terrible and deletes negative reviews. The home is run down and pictures are years old and purposely doesn’t list flaws. My family stayed in this home the week of thanksgiving. It was my husband, our 2 small children, our small dog and my mother in law. The heat on the entire first floor was not working and the host did not mention this until she knew I had checked into the home after 6pm in the evening. The home was 60 degrees when we got there. She said there was plug in heaters we could use. Trying to be understanding I asked if this just happened (as in that day) and she informed me that she had know about the problem since before the last tenants, she deliberately did not tell me and this is 100% unacceptable. When asked she said she didn’t feel the need to tell me because the previous renters had no problem with it. I do have a problem with this. I had 2 small children. We plug in the heaters trying to get our children warm and the heater makes the power go out. I then have to climb steep messy crowded stairs down to a basement in the dark to reset the breaker. I had to do this 3 separate times over our stay and only had minimal things running at one time so the house clearly has electrical issues the host is not dealing with as well. The beds were terrible one of my pillowcases were stained and moldy looking. The couch in the living room was behind awful and I’m glad I brought an air mattress for my kids.

Don't make the same mistake we did!

This home and Host have major flaws that need correction and should not be listed on Vrbo. The central heating unit was in the middle of repair- very cold house. The main kitchen light did not work. Appliances broke or dirty. Back door to porch booby trapped with alarms that could not be shut off. Master bedroom closet dead bolted closed. Dog poop all over the front yard. Clutter everywhere and it got worse. When a circuit breaker tripped we lost power to the living room. We lost internet. The local contact was no longer employed. Angela can't be reached by us or Vrbo. The circuit breaker can not be reset because it is in the locked closet. We left the next morning and returned home. We asked for a refund but have not heard anything back. Our recommendation- look elsewhere. If you are in doubt that this may be a one off bad experience, look closely at the only other review from 2024- the little house in Carol K's review is now a full time adjoining rental. Look at Cheryl G's review from 2023, communication problems with Host and no local contact. Look elsewhere, especially if you don't want to live out of your suitcases.

The house at the end of the street!!

This property we stayed at was beyond inclusive. The host was extremely accommodating. We had everything we needed and more. Very clean and the air-conditioning was definitely working. She actually offered the little house next door for an additional option at no charge; although we did not need it. The furnishings were very complete with extra towels and even laundry soap if we needed to use the washer and dryer. When we come to Alabama again we will definelty use this property again. THANK YOU!!!

Nice house in a grwat location

The house was well furnished and conveniently located within walking distance of the town. It was nice and quiet and secluded near the end of a dead end street. Highly recommended!

Beautiful Home

This home is gorgeous, full of character, charm & was perfect for my stay; however, it would not have been if I couldn't have used the paved driveway. My elderly mom has mobility issues &this home is not handicap friendly due to the concrete steps, yard pavers & step in tub/shower combo downstairs. I completely understand abt Angela being out of state. Not having a contact person was difficult and bless Gina's heart for coming over to replace kitchen bulbs & texting back & forth; because the person I was instructed through Vrbo to text was Faith & she was slow to respond. The day after checkout, she texts me to let me know the new guest coordinator was Cindy. I feel confident the communication issues will be corrected & I would definitely stay here again!

Just right

We used the location to visit family. The living area is spacious. The bedrooms have ample room. The kitchen was very well appointed for a rental. No hand-me-down pots, pans and dishes. Two small things I would change. Knife sharpener in kitchen and more parking area. Our truck and SUV barely fit in the allocated space.

Perfect

Could not have had a better trip. Possibly one of the best VRBOs we have stayed in. Beautiful turn of the century property that has been updated but still has plenty of character. The house was immaculately cleaned and beautifully decorated for our arrival. Well provisioned for a comfortable stay. Perfect location. We enjoyed walking downtown everyday and grabbing a coffee at the The Spot and window shopping. Thanks very much for making our holiday trip to Ft Payne truly memorable.

Quiet & convenient location

The property was nice, quiet and within a 20-30 minute drive within all area national park locations. The house worked good for us as it gave us space to hang out and play games after a day taking in the sites of the area. House was clean, spacious and nicely decorated and one of few that allowed pets.

Southern Fall Festivities

The house was very nice and clean. Spacious for five adults. Kitchen well equipped. Close to everything but I wouldn't say within walking distance due to house being up a hill. I would rent again if in town for a long weekend.

Perfect Escape

We visited in late August to ride out Hurricane Ida in a safe place. This house provided a perfect refuge. Everything one would need was provided, and lots of extra were included too! Linens and towels were provided. Since we brought our small dog, a water and food dish was even left out! The house is extremely tranquil with very comfortable beds and relaxing spaces. There is also easy access to Desoto state Park- hiking, fishing, kayaking etc. I would definitely return and would recommend to anyone looking for a relaxing family vacation!

Great Location

The house was perfect for our needs. It is a great location to so many interesting places to visit. We loved the local Vintage1889 restaurant and bar. The Wildflower Cafe in Mentone was excellent. Collinsville Trade Day on Saturdays is a local favorite. Angela is a wonderful host and we look forward to many more stays.
