Villa Tolomei Hotel & Resort5.0 out of 5.0

We were fortunate enough to have got married at the beautiful Villa Tolomei on 29th May 2017. After staying at the hotel the previous year we knew it would make the most perfect wedding venue and it actually still managed to exceed our expectations. First of all, the hotel is really unique in that it is located so close to the centre of Florence yet it is surrounded by hills, gardens, olive groves and vineyards, giving the impression that it is in the middle of the Tuscan countryside. This provided so much flexibility for our guests with many staying at Villa Tolomei and many others staying wherever they wanted in the city (a 5-10 minute taxi ride away). It was unforgettable being able to relax with some of our guests at the hotel for a couple of days before the wedding - we all enjoyed relaxing by the pool as the big day approached. The day itself was beyond our expectations and we are still dreaming about it. Since the hotels grounds are so expansive, we didn't notice a single other hotel guest during the day or evening. The event felt really private which is unheard of if you don't book a venue exclusively! Our guests were completely in awe of how stunning the venue and it's many spaced were - we were able to utilise the garden at the front of the villa for the ceremony, a very private and beautiful garden at the back for our aperitif, the cloisters for dinner, pool area for the cake cutting and the oil mill room for the party. Since the oil mill room is sound proof we had no time restrictions so we could party for as long as we wanted without disturbing other guests. One of the most impressive aspects of the day was the incredible staff who have been so attentive and professional from the outset. Whether you're staying as a hotel or wedding guest, the service and hospitality from each member of staff is spectacular and very sincere. They strike the perfect balance of being really efficient and professional as well as friendly and sincere. They are not stuffy or pompous - something you would certainly find at many other 5 star hotels. So many of our guests commented on the quality of the staff. Our event planner Irene is a credit to the venue and she couldn't have done more for us over the last 18 months as well as coordinating everything so seamlessly on the day. She even managed to source last minute sparklers for us on the day as we were unable to get them beforehand. Finally, the food and wine was some of the best we've ever had and most of our guests thought the same. It wasn't typical wedding food but the type of food you would be served if you dined at a high end restaurant - the quality was spot on. Everyone is still raving about the wedding and we can truly say it was the best day of our lives. Choosing Villa Tolomei was the best decision we've made and we will certainly be returning regularly in the future. It's a wonderful base for exploring Florence and the wider Tuscan region, it's the best hotel we've experienced and it will always have a place in our hearts. P.s. we haven't even mentioned the rooms. They are beautiful and keep many original details of the renaissance villa. Stunningly high ceilings, great bathrooms, lovely decor and very spacious. I particularly love the wooden windows/shutters which open up fully so you can gaze at the scenery around you and take in the scent of jasmine in Spring/Summer.
Very peaceful hotel. Excellent location if you want to rest from a busy shopping or sightseeing day downtown (like ours...!). You can actually walk down to Firenze in 20-25 minutes but the way back up will be a bit more strenuous (especially in the heath of the summer...). Taxi back will be between 12 and 14 Euros pending on pick-up location downtown. Room space was excellent (and with air con) but small windows. Food is good but not memorable. Good wine list though... Very friendly staff (English sometimes so so....). Fantastic views from the swimming pool and nice bar tenders. Not really a five star yet: no iron or kettle in the room, wifi is there but not reliable and slow, showerhead not really functional, so in summary just a few snags... But overall quite charming even if a bit pricey.
To say it upfront: it's not a terrible hotel! I'm only rating this in regard to its 5 stars: Pro: - nice pool and nice view - friendly staff - 20 minute walk to Porta romana Con: - very poor wifi - a selection of maybe three channels which are English or German - very poor breakfast selection (fruit salad and tomatoes were the only healthy option) - rooms quite average, bathroom far from 5 star experience - luckily they were able to upgrade me to a nicer room, since the "classic" room was dark, small and had a very cheap feel to it - the room service fee of 35 euros per person is very unfortunate. Not to say ridiculous - menu in room wasn't up to date - ashtray wasn't cleaned when I moved in - minibar doesn't get restocked - grounds are very messy, homepage made it sound like you could go for a stroll on the 3h land I could go on and on. I stay in 5* hotels quite often and have to say that this hotel, when you look into the detail, is no more than 3 stars. Very unfortunate because this was supposed to be a three day getaway.
In the hills near Florence, you find this luxurious hotel. Arriving by car through the pine lane sets the tone immediately. Blue sky, sun, birds and further no rumor at all. You can walk to the city border if you like it's a good 2 km walk. Received a room with 2! balconies and view over the northern part of the city. Excellent restaurant and breakfast. Very helpful staff. Explore the city on foot, take the car for the surroundings and return to this heaven of peace at night.
The hotel has a great location 4 min drive to Porto Romano yet you feel very relaxed because the surrounding olive yards and the green hills . Swimming pool its great I only used it once being early may but great view. Food was also good waiters very professional and friendly I asked (GASHI ) the waiter where to visit apart from the main attractions in the centre of Florence he had good knowledge of the area . Thanks again GASHI ! Over all a great holiday the rooms are huge honestly absolutely great for those who like a lot of space . Grazie tuti
people and staff very nice and polite but the resorts wifi support is very poor i stayed their for 4 days finally after complaining to their management multiple times they sent a IT guy who put a router in the room on the 3rd day of my stay that itself will work only for few minutes . if you ask they will send their waiter staff to manage your computer support who kept saying my computer is not working. food in the resort was above average but the kitchen staff is amazingly helpful wine selection is ok not superior
I'm vegan, and when we booked the hotel we also called and mention that. For the next four days, I had a magnificent vegan fest!!! Beside that, the hotel was beautiful and the stuff were very polite and helpful.
The hotel is placed on top pf a hill overlooking Florence. The view from the hotel or its pool is just breath taking. This piece of gem is located just 5-10 minutes away for the historical district. It would double your joy of visiting Florence by giving you an authentic Tuscan experience.
We selected this hotel as it had car parking, which very few in Florence do. Lovely hotel, very friendly & helpful staff. Breakfast good, but not the best we've had. Limited fresh fruit, usual selection of scrambled eggs, bacon, cold cuts & cheese. Nice bread. We were impressed that the bed was totally changed each day, but no bathrobes! We only ate in the restaurant once in the evening - nice - pricey. Ironically despite having a car, we walked into Florence each day (parking there is tricky) - a good 15 min walk on pretty precarious road, and took a taxi back - not a safe road to walk in the dark unless you have a death wish. Overall a very nice hotel, well equipped gym, pool for when it's warmer and lovely grounds.
Beautiful and well-appointed property with a view of the Tuscan countryside of your dreams. Very good meals and gracious service. All this and only 10 minutes away from the centre of Florence. Take note that the roads leading up to it are very, very narrow, so rent a small car.
