We hugely enjoyed staying here for 2 nights for a 50th birthday party. Food was excellent and the breakfast especially good (as part of the inclusive room price). Staff on reception were so helpful with excellent English and nothing was too much trouble. Service in the bar was slightly slower than I would expect for this class of hotel. Our Room (no 10) was very well appointed, although the sink plug did not stay in and the shower leaked a little. I told the staff and they saw to it. Would definitely stay here again.
Attentive staff, great location on the outskirts of Florence and huge rooms contributed to a wonderful 4 day stay. We took advantage of the resorts restaurant and were suitably impressed with the menu and quality of the service. I would highly recommend this resort.
When you are lying by the pool at this hotel it's hard to believe you are so close to Florence! We stayed here for 3 nights late September it is a stunning hotel with friendly, helpful staff, good size rooms that are comfortable and have all the facilities you would need. It was a little slow getter no pool service for drinks but everything else was spot on - I would absolutely stay here again!
There are dozens of 5-star hotels in Florence and choosing one isn't easy. If you want to be in the center of the city and enjoy the hustle and bustle of tourists this is not the place for you. I chose Villa Tolomei because I wanted to wake up in the Tuscan countryside yet be only a short taxi ride (€12) from the Ponte Vecchio. The hotel is located on a hillside above the city and is surrounded by olive groves and vineyards. There are only 30 rooms so it's always very relaxed and even the pool area that has a great view of the city is never chaotic. If you like you can lift weights in their fitness area (I didn't) or have dinner in the adjacent restaurant (I did). Staying here makes a visit to Florence even more special and gives you the chance to reflect on all the extraordinary things you've seen down below.
My husband and I have been travelling for 7 weeks. Staying at Villa Tolomei was by far the nicest place we have stayed. Right from the moment you pull up until the moment you go the staff we super friendly and professional. You could not ask for any more. The food was fantastic. The rooms were spacious and well appointed. I would encourage anyone to stay there. My husband and I celebrated our 30th anniversary. They made us feel very special. If there was a 10 star rating I would have given that to them. Thank you Villa Tolomei for a wonderful time.
I might say if it were even a 4 star hotel there would be things I might let go, but being a five star hotel, it just doesn't deserve it. Yes, the view of this place is breathtaking, and the place itself but it's a shame they don't take advantage of it's potential. I was organizing a wedding this September and in my mind I had the quality of a 5 star hotel which gave me confidence when you are working abroad, the joke on me, it was CHAOTIC. I do hope they start putting some effort because the venue deserves being treated as a 5 star hotel.
The hotel is lovely, with beautiful grounds and a wonderful view over the city of Florence. The pool area was fantastic and we saw deer running through the olive trees below, all very idyllic. The room was great and the staff very friendly. Breakfast was excellent, with lots of choice. However, it is not a short walk in to Florence and will take you a good 30 minutes. The walk itself is up and down the hillside so you need to have a reasonable level of fitness. A taxi ride will cost around €10. The restaurant is very expensive and the room service charge is ridiculous. It's much cheaper and nicer to eat out. We were also disappointed not to receive fresh water every day, something that we would expect from a 5 star luxury hotel. The internet connection was poor at times but in the main ok. If the hotel is committed to being a 5 star luxury destination then they need to iron out these little details and be very clear on the proximity to the city. I would recommend this hotel if you are using it as a base to see other parts of Florence. It's perfectly positioned to drive out to places like Siena, San Gimignano etc. You'll get the best from this place if you have a hire car. Overall we really enjoyed our stay and would certainly go back.
We read on the website that this hotel is 5 mins from Florence. This is correct in the sense that it's 5 mins from a sign that says Florence - it's actually a 45 min walk to the centre up and down a steep hill and through narrow streets - not what we expected. Villa tolomei has the usual amenities you would expect from a 5* , lovely pool with an amazing view, clean rooms, wifi etc but the food at the restaurant is very expensive so to are the drinks around the pool. There are strict rules regarding what you can eat / drink around the pool which doesn't really make for a pleasant relaxing atmosphere. Room service is charged at a ridiculous 35€ per person, so if a family of four wanted a cup of tea and a glass of juice you would be charged € 140 before you took a sip of your 6€ drink - avoid ordering unless you have very deep pockets . Generally the staff are really nice, the guy at the pool, and the woman at the bar. However the woman behind reception was quite rude to my daughter when we asked to go back into our room after checking out ( even though before 12) as we forgot something- not really the way to treat 5 star guests . I wouldn't recommend this hotel unless you had a car and didn't mind being a few miles away from Florence .
Overall quite alright but for a 5 star I would have expected at least fast speed internet and shower without black mould on the silicon. Nor the king materasso that were 2 materasses pushed together. When we went there were 40 degrees outside and we ask if we could have complimentary bottle of water and they told us no ! The only complimentary bottle is only for the first night! How cheap! Small plastic bottle in italy cost 30 cent! But the supermarket is far away that sometimes it would be nice to have a cold water bottle waiting for you in the room. Ps: cleaning lady burged in one day at 5 pm while I was taking a nap! The rooms are clean but boy... just add more channel that are not only in arabic...
Feedback is a gift and I hope that the management of Villa Tolomei appreciates receiving it and actually takes note. Normally feedback is given AFTER a stay however I am only 2 days into a two week stay. I have a specific point to raise and hope this can still be addressed whilst I am here. As is clear from the attached photo the room service charge in the hotel is a stunning 35 Euro per person (mentioned bottom right). This means 53 Euro charged for one 18 Euro hamburger delivered to my room, and 159 Euro if my wife and son like a hamburger too. In this 30 room hotel few rooms will be more than 30 meters from the kitchen. A charge of 5 or 10 Euro per order would be reasonable. Not so a 105 Euro charge. Some would call this charge "on the high side", others would call it a rip-off. A way to avoid the charge is to order the same meal at the poolside, or more accurately put, on the terrace in between the pool and the restaurant. In that case no service charge is due. However, although the pool is open until 19:30 hours, this option is only available until 18:00 hours. After 18:00 hours food can only be served inside the restaurant. The reason given for this is that the restaurant staff cannot serve clients "in different locations", and from 18:00 hours onwards the kitchen "is making preparations for the dinner in the restaurant itself". The management was quoted as saying that exeptions to this policy could not be made as "many other guests would want this as well if they saw you eating there". That is exactly the point. Hotel guests that don't want to dress up for the restarant but rather have their meal in their room or a quick bite outside near the pool (laid back in swimming gear) are not served well in the hotel. If many guests want to have a meal in less formal setting outside near the pool that is probably what should be offered. Sell what your customers are asking for. The result of the current approach is not that hotel guests let themselves be forced like sheep to dine several courses in the restaurant. If one has to dress up one might as well take a taxi into town for less than 15 Euro. There you can enjoy a wide range of options for an excellent meal of your choice at significantly lower cost than in the restaurant. Alternatively guests will order food from town to be delivered to their room. This policy impacts on guests' overall appreciation of their stay at hotel villa Tolomei. This despite the attitude of the operational staff who spare absolutely no effort and go at great lenghts to serve the guests. The operational staff know what customers want, I call upon the management to empower the staff to actually deliver this service to the clients.
