In short: This hotel is a poor choice if you want a good night's rest due to the unreliable AC and noisy outdoors. Our last night here, the room was at least 25 degrees. The desk staff member could not log into their computer to "turn on the AC" because they did not have the computer password. They could not move us rooms or find a solution. They told us to open our window to cool down the room, but the echoey corridor outside out window was so loud that every group walking by that night or cart on the cobblestones woke us up. We did not sleep a wink. The hotel has recently been renovated, so the rooms look pretty, but I come to a hotel primarily to sleep and was not able to. Long version review: We spent 3 nights in Florence and specifically searched for a hotel with air conditioning, which I know can be challenging in Europe. I am in my third trimester of pregnancy and tend to get hot and uncomfortable at night, so I looked through multiple hotels to specifically find a hotel with reliable air conditioning . We showed up our first night and noticed that, even though the AC was set at 22 degrees, the room was hot and the AC would not turn on. We tried to call the front desk staff member on the room phone, but the phone did not work, so I called them on my cell phone. The front desk staff advised they would get the phone fixed. The front desk staff advised the AC had been turned on Heat from the previous resident, so he just had to switch it to AC mode. He did this quickly and the AC worked. We slept pretty well, though were occasionally woken by people passing by our window talking. The room was located next to a very echoey corridor, so even with the window closed, people walking by and other outdoor sounds were very loud. Our second night was uneventful, the AC worked, we slept decently, and again it was slightly noisy due to the especially loud Saturday night passersbys. Our third and final night, we came back from dinner and noticed the room was warm. We tried to adjust the AC, but noticed it was not turning on. I tried to use the room phone to call the front desk staff, and it was still broken, so I used my cell phone to call them. The front desk staff member seemed annoyed that my cell phone reception was bad and overall it was very tough to communicate the AC issue with him- he kept asking me if the hot water in the room was not working (the hot water in the building had stopped working that day). I advised him that our AC was off and he said that yes, it had been turned to Heat. When I asked him to switch the AC back on, he said he could not because he did not have the password to log into the computer to switch it on. When I asked him if he could call someone to get the password, he said he could not (it was midnight on a Sunday) and said I should open the window. I told him that it was too loud outside the window and he responded, "no it won't be loud because it is Sunday night." We opened the window and attempted to sleep, but every 10 minutes, a group of people would walk by yelling and talking and it would wake us up. I called back the front desk staff member and asked him to move us to a room with functioning AC and he said he could not. We ended up shutting the window because of the noise and, because of the heat, had one of the worst nights of sleep I have had since moving to Europe in October. I understand that European hotels often do not have AC or sometimes switch it off at certain times of the year and, with this knowledge, II specifically looked for a hotel with AC available all year. Regardless, this hotel was not able to provide this service and unwilling to assist when it did not function. I was extremely disappointed with this hotel and would not recommend it to anyone. Pros of the Hotel: Rooms have recently been renovated Good Breakfast Good location Cons: -Poor sleep -AC is out of your control -Very noisy from outside noise -WiFi was poor. Although there are routers on each floor of the hotel, the structure of the rooms prevents you from getting reception anywhere except by your door and the wifi continually cuts out. Definitely some of the worst wifi I have seen during my travels in Europe. -Room phone did not work and hotel staff did not fix it when we told them -Hotel staff were unwilling to assist in finding a solution when we advised we could not sleep due to heat/noise -Hotel's hot water did not work from Sunday afternoon until Monday afternoon
We stayed here for 3 nights. Loved the location and very hospitable staff.. they had put us in a room with fabulous view .. the rooms were spacious and big with a sumptuous view.. the host during breakfast us extremely friendly and that automatically lightens up things... if you're planning on staying there ask in advance for a room with view.
Very friendly and helpful reception. The room is clean and good size. The breakfast was very nice and girls working there were always smiling and very friendly. Location is perfect and close to many places
I chose this hotel for its great reviews. Specifically, the hotel staff, quality of rooms and food. The hotel exceeded my expectations. Wonderful, genuinely warm and helpful staff. Breakfast was atomic. Gave me the foul I needed for the day. The evening clerk was fantastic. Even the room was great. Only problem is people making noise in the early am dragging around luggage.
The hotel is in a very good location, all the staff is friendly, the breakfast is very good with bread, butter ,jam, cakes, hand made, and salad products, fruits. The hotel is in process of renovate; my bathroom was just it. Duomo ist four minutes walking. I choose it in a new visit to Florence, of course!. Thanks for all..
Very Good location, very good stuff (especially restorant's) and very good breakfast. The only one demoralization was our room which hadn't old city view although we had written. But it had renewed and good. As a result; definitely I recomend.
Hotel Corte dei Medici has surpassed all my expectations. The rooms are newly renovated, the staff are friendly and focussed on making you feel right at home. 2 minutes away from the train station, close to almost every attraction and next to the market. HCM has made my first visit to Florence an experience of a lifetime.
My stay here was just fantastic! I booked a last minute trip to Florence and decided on this hotel seeing the past review of others. Definitely was not disappointed! Staff shared the popular attractions and how to get there! I felt very welcomed being a solo traveler! Breakfast was absolutely delightful! Breads and jams. Omg the jams were the bomb! Soooo good! The apple and kiwi jam has to be my favourite :) highly recommended hotel!
The breakfast was so good and the staff there is so nice! Especially the cleaning staff is super nice! They put so much love in cleaning and organizing the rooms! Every day they give you chocolate hearts in your room and ask you regularly if you need something and what they can do better! They also inform you about visiting other places (for example Pisa and give you nice insider information!) Many many thanks to Nina and her team Katharina and Szilivia! You did such an amazing job and I felt so comfortable because of you and will come again! THANK YOU! All the best, Desi
Very nice modern room and bathroom. Nice window with shutters. You can see the market and church from the room. Very friendly staff and buffet service. The cooks and waitress always greeted us and made sure we had plenty of coffee or tea in the morning. Comfortable bed and the room was a nice size too. Walking distance to everything too!
